I would take more pride in pretty much any olympic sport where athletes without the huge earnings football players have still manage to compete at an international level.

Yanbu.

England and many other major international teams donate their nominal match fee to charity.
I know the overpaid stuff IS important re the Premier League, but not truly relevant to the World Cup.
The fact that a popular sport gets funding isn't a crime.

MaloryArcher · 20/06/2014 20:27

Suarez was incredible yesterday. So fast and powerful and accurate. Say what you like about him off the pitch but he outclassed England singlehandedly.

Both his goals pissed on Rooney's (which even I at 8 months pregnant would have struggled not to score).

ComposHat · 20/06/2014 20:28

England were the better team against Italy and had far more possession than Uruguay last night. They haven't disgraced themselves and were unlucky to be drawn in a very tough group and are a side in transition. I am cautiously optimistic that they'll have a better showingat the 2016 euros and 2018 world cup.

I get your point, thursday, but it does stick in the craw a bit. After all, we keep being told that the reason these players are paid so much (and they are truly mind boggling salaries, after all) in the premiership is because they are 'worth it', their talents mean that they make lots of money for their clubs, sponsorship etc?

And then to see them flop out of the competition, to players who play in smaller, less prestigious, far less wealthy home leagues, and before they've even played three games...I can totally understand why it pisses people off.

TheBogQueen · 20/06/2014 20:32

I have no feelings about it at all

None

Is there something wrong with me?

Aliceinvodkaland · 20/06/2014 20:32

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 20/06/2014 20:35

I am a bit baffled by the salaries, and the dismissiveness of women's football tbh.

TheBogQueen · 20/06/2014 20:35

I have no emotion associated with it

Nada nothing

Perhaps I should drink some vodka.
