'Get it right up you, we made it to the world cup. England might be shite, but they'll never be as shite as Scotland. Far from wanted your collection of plukey faced cloggers and sixth rate English players whose qualify cos their granny had a tunnochs teacake once, to leave the field wearing the cowering demenour of a whipped dog after yet ANOTHER failed attempt to make it to a major tournament.'
Oh dear. ^ Scottish here, and first off - my main choice to support in the world cup has always been Germany. Why? Just because I think they're a great team. I know Scotland isn't a fantastic team, but I don't think England are either, amongst many others (just my opinion). It's not to do with nationality for me, just supporting the team I want to, in the name of having some fun actually enjoying football for a change (as I take no interest in any other tournaments/matches outside the World Cup, including Scottish clubs).
The thing that bothers me about the English commentators is the constant references to 1966 - no matter which game they're commentating. Yes, it was an achievement to win the World Cup, but hearing about it all the time...
I just hate the whole 'you're just jealous' attitude, in general. I'm proud of Scotland for many things, such as its history, amazing scenery, diversity and numerous traditions, amongst others. I'm sure English people also have such things that make them proud of their English heritage. Although it would be awesome if Scotland won the World Cup, I wouldn't count it amongst my reasons enjoy being Scottish. After all, it's just the country you were born in.
