No more biased commentary. No more mention of 1966 for now
They're going home Grin

I'm sad we are out and think we should all get behind our boys, see, I think this is a bit of an odd attitude. 'Our boys'? Really? Whose? What connection do we really have with them? You are suggesting a relationship which doesn't exist in any meaningful sense Charlie. Supporting them is fine if you are English and like football. They aren't some kind of national hero, though. They are (IMHO) overpaid 'professionals' doing a job in which I have no interest. I wouldn't say I was happy they were out as that would imply I cared at all. I don't have enough interest for that.

teaandthorazine · 20/06/2014 19:54

Doh!I meant Uruguay flag Blush

Greydog · 20/06/2014 19:56

the sad thing is that England Ladies play great football, have conceded one goal in over 600 hours of football, and get no attention aid to them, whereas this bunch of ninnies have all the attention showered on them. Private Eyes's cover summed up the whole thing

MexicanSpringtime · 20/06/2014 20:02

YUNBU, I live in Mexico and I can't wait until Mexico loses, my only concern are my neighbours who are very poor and are selling football shirts right now.

TheFairyCaravan · 20/06/2014 20:11

I couldn't give a toss either way, tbh but am a bit sad for DS1. It's the first time he could watch it in the pub with his mates and it's all over now.

Marcus du Sautoy says "It's still mathematically possible! We beat Costa Rica i:0 where i is square root of minus one and we go through in an imaginary dimension." Wink

LumionaMoonsplash · 20/06/2014 20:13

I'm not happy that they're out but glad I don't have hear about the football anymore. I'd have been pleased if they'd have won the world cup if only to justify their salaries.

AuntieStella · 20/06/2014 20:16

"To whoever said there is still a chance we could go through, there isn't. We are out"

Sorry! total apologies - I'd not seen the Italy/Costa Rica result (had actually overlooked they were playing today), so was going on info from a couple of hours ago.

For once, my prediction was right though.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 20/06/2014 20:16

Yes, my son has just informed me we're definitely out because Costa Rica won against Italy - but we will play another match anyway -is that right?

what a fuckin thread to start !!!!!

ThursdayLast · 20/06/2014 20:17

Maybe now Engand are out all the moaners, whingers and nay sayers will stop bleating on.
Although this thread suggests otherwise

JerseySpud · 20/06/2014 20:17

Its a game. Thats it. and not one England is any good at either.

Aliceinvodkaland · 20/06/2014 20:18

lasty!!!!!!

Pollaidh · 20/06/2014 20:18

It's a shame - principally because the roads were nice and clear during the England games.

CarmineRose1978 · 20/06/2014 20:18

I'm glad because I actually can enjoy it more when there's nothing at stake. It would be different if they'd been genuine contenders but to be honest they were rubbish, so each game was just depressing agony. Even if they'd scraped through to the knock out round, they would have struggled.

I do feel bad for my DP, though, he was really sad last night.

Wearyworker · 20/06/2014 20:18

Wayne Rooney's goal was not a classic, it was a tap in!

Aliceinvodkaland · 20/06/2014 20:19

yeah fair enough it wasn't an amazing goal but it was a goal

teaandthorazine · 20/06/2014 20:20

Yes, the roads were so quiet last night - just the pizza delivery bikes going up and down Smile

France 2-0 up!

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 20/06/2014 20:21

We Brits love the underdog - it makes us what we are. Still genuinely Sad though.

CarpetBagger · 20/06/2014 20:21

We were supposed to have an awful team, we were not awful at all. And we were un lucky to have one of the worlds best if not the best goal scorers against us!

I feel lots less pain having gone out this time, thinking we did as best as we could with our team, than when we had a good team who fucked up
.

Rooneys goal was a goal.

it is what it is.

we were not thrashed like spain or some other teams, we have gone out with head high.

OddBoots · 20/06/2014 20:22

We've hopefully got the Fifa World Cup 2015 in Canada to look forward to, England have nearly qualified, only a draw against Wales or Montenegro would do it.
