No more biased commentary. No more mention of 1966 for now
They're going home Grin

At least this year they didn't expect to win. They weren't wrong. Honestly what a shambles.

50KnockingonabiT · 20/06/2014 19:42

it's one more out of the sweepstake:)

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 20/06/2014 19:43

I wouldn't call it a shambles. I thought there were some more positive signs of good football than 4 years ago. This is a relatively young side

cardibach · 20/06/2014 19:43

I don't think it's an 'attitude' as such. There is no law that all English people (and remember not all people who live in these islands are English) should support the football team. It's more a declaration of lack of interest in the tournament so relief it might not dominate every social medium/tv station/radio station etc.

thecrimsonpetal · 20/06/2014 19:44

It's a pretty horrible attitude though really. Would you post you are happy that Andy Murray was out of Wimbledon? Or England lost the Ashes? Etc. There seems to be a special hatred unfairly reserved for football and the England team in particular.

expatinscotland · 20/06/2014 19:46

Yes, because I don't think sports is news. I find it all boring.

LtEveDallas · 20/06/2014 19:46

Actually I thought they played pretty well. Some people certainly stood out - Cahill for me. Rooneys goal last night was a classic, Gerrard seemed off his game but was stoic.

They were outplayed by one world class player - the rest of the Uruguay team were no better than us, but they have one of the worlds best players ATM and he showed us why.

I think they did as well as we expected considering the group.

I think it's a shame it's over and judging from the tears of the lads next door, so do they. Bit off to revel in it just because you didn't like it.

OddBoots · 20/06/2014 19:46

I normally watch the World Cup and Euros but I couldn't this year knowing that nearly 1000 people died building the stadiums not to mention the huge increase in child prostitution during the event. England going out won't undo that though.

Charlieboo30 · 20/06/2014 19:47

I'm sad we are out and think we should all get behind our boys. Have to say though the two performances were embarrassing. Luis Suarez had knee surgery 28 days ago and put two goals past them. Most people would still be hobbling about!

I have to say though I cannot wait for the tour de Yorkshire to be over. The disruption it's caused for months is absolutely ridiculous. I've had enough now!!!

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 20/06/2014 19:47

I think the England team has potential but needs to mature for a good few years before they stand a chance. Wellbeck, Sterling, Sturridge and Barkley are great players but they lack experience nad the whole team needs time to practise playing together. Maybe Euro 16 will be a better comp for them?

I am pleased in a way as I really cannot bear listening to all the pundits talk about how great England is when it's obvious they aren't. I'm all for a positive attitude but they take it to another level...

HappienessIsEggshaped · 20/06/2014 19:47

Oh BowlersArm, now you're being a little silly. I didn't think people were genuinely sad due to a game. Like actual tears?

And fwiw to the poster who said I have no interest in football you're wrong. I love it, haven't missed a game this World Cup and I coach football at my local school, Just to clear that up :)

ilovesooty · 20/06/2014 19:47

I don't think it's dominated all the media either. I listened to radio 4 on my way to work and it certainly didn't dominate the section I listened to.

WeirdCatLady · 20/06/2014 19:48

I couldn't give a monkeys either way, HTH :)

MaloryArcher · 20/06/2014 19:48

I'm with you OP. I'll admit to a smug grin when Costa Rica won.

Maybe if England were so crap and the English press and fans weren't so bloody unbearable people might feel more sympathetic towards them.

teaandthorazine · 20/06/2014 19:48

I think 'hatred' is a bit of an exaggeration.

Plenty of people really aren't at all interested in football and they get fed up with wall-to-wall coverage on both major channels, the radio and the papers. Plus, lots of people find the amount that premiership footballers are paid to be distasteful, especially when they can't even play well enough to get out of the group stages

Liking football is not compulsory.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 20/06/2014 19:49

I didn't think much of Cahill last night LtEve, but agree, Gerrard had a bit of a shocker by his standards! There is something up with Rooney, he just doesn't seem to fit in with the team.

BunnyBaby · 20/06/2014 19:49

More sad for all the women who will have got a beating last night and possibly tonight, domestic violence peaks as teams are eliminated, and sadly, out of the blue I became one of those women 12 years ago. Never again, relationship over that night, but glad to see the whole circus over with.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 20/06/2014 19:50

I noticed Cahill too

I'm Sad they're out - feel v sorry for the fans who paid £££ to be out there and they haven't even won a match.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 20/06/2014 19:50

^ Sorry about my flag btw - my daughter has Uruguay as her 'team' at school - so I did that for a laff. Prob a bit inappropriate here Blush but I can't be arsed to changed it now

teaandthorazine · 20/06/2014 19:52

I like the Algerian flag Smile

I quite like football, fwiw. But I quite understand that some people don't and would indeed be 'happy' that England are out.

ohmymimi · 20/06/2014 19:53

The only thing that upset me was that repulsive, ignorant little weasel, Suarez, scored ... twice.

mismylinford · 20/06/2014 19:53

i for one am very glad its over!!!!
i live in normal peaceful street and area but since the wc started there has been alot of late night noise and fireworks could even hear the pub half a mile away and its very annoying.
opening night and there was some drunks down my street making a right noise then police etc.
there is something about football that gives a small.minority the urge to go crazy get hammered and cause a nuisance.

cjelh · 20/06/2014 19:53

I think that to be glad about something that brings happiness and a time of coming together for some is a really weird attitude to have. We can't all like the same things and if you don't then leave those who do to enjoy it.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 20/06/2014 19:54

And what BunnyBaby said.
