Very very dubious postman

Our postman at the moment looks like a total wrong-un. I have answered the door to him at least 3 times on seperate occasions and he has been sporting black eyes and looks like he's been in a fight (different time so not the same black eyes). I have also heard him swearing right outside the door before while talking on his phone. He actually really scares me.

This morning DH was walking back from the shop and intercepted the postman as he is expecting a delivery. He said he looks like a total scumbag and he reckons he's a football hooligan. Apparently he has scars all over his face and a swastika tattoo on his arm.

He hasn't actually done anything untoward but AIBU to question whether Royal Mail should employ someone like this? Surely repeatedly rocking up for work looking like an extra out of Fight Club when you are constantly in contact with the general public is not good for Public relations?

He hasn't done anything but you just don't like the look of him? Bit judgy, no?

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 14/06/2014 18:32

YABU. Tattoos (however questionable), scars and "looking like a wrong'un" do not impede his ability to work or his legal right to be employed without discrimination. If you feel his professional conduct has been lacking, then by all means complain to Royal Mail about those specific actions, but you can't seriously think they shouldn't employ someone because they look "like a total scumbag" Hmm

ForgiveMeFather · 14/06/2014 18:33

The swearing whilst in earshot is unprofessional but the rest is of no concern but as you've already chalked him up as a 'scum bag' then I don't suppose your going to change your mind

Rollergirl1 · 14/06/2014 18:34

Well yes actually, I do judge people that have swastika tattoos.

OP posts:
QuizzicalCat · 14/06/2014 18:35

Maybe he's a martial artist, or a boxer, black eyes do not automatically mean he's a football hooligan. He may even be able abused person. You don't know.

Stop judging on appearances op. If I did that I'd think you were a bit of an arse....

LiberalLibertine · 14/06/2014 18:35

He might be a cage fighter, or a boxer.

He shouldn't be swearing outside your house, but the rest?

LiberalLibertine · 14/06/2014 18:37

It's a free country op, if he wants a swastika tattoo, he can have one. It actually started off as a peaceful Indian symbol, maybe that's why he's got it Grin

PostmanPatAlwaysRingsTwice · 14/06/2014 18:38

Wondering if previous posters haven't picked up on the swastika tattoo... Confused

I would have thought a visible tattoo like that went against company policy.

longestlurkerever · 14/06/2014 18:39

To be fair a swastika tattoo is a bit extreme! If you're sure about that you could contact Royal Mail and ask if they are aware he is displaying that while wearing the post uniform? I would have thought posties have to undergo background checks because of the position of trust they are in with people's post and vulnerable people answering the door so making an enquiry about the tattoo might make them look into his criminal record if they haven't already.

Toooldtobearsed · 14/06/2014 18:39

Okay, so black eyes come from running a boxing club for disadvantaged young men every weeknight, giving up his time for the good of society.
The tattoo was from when he was a stupid drunken yob, before he reformed, went teetotal and found God.
He did not know anyone was eavesdropping on a private conversation he was having, hence the swearing, have you read the sweaty threads on here? Makes my toes curl sometimes.
Stop judging by appearances.

Toooldtobearsed · 14/06/2014 18:40

Sweary, not sweaty (although, that often applies too)!

Rollergirl1 · 14/06/2014 18:40

I won't change my mind about him. He has a very menacing air about him. I wouldn't dream of complaining about him when he hasn't done anything wrong but i do find him very questionable.

OP posts:
squoosh · 14/06/2014 18:41

He sounds like a complete wrong 'un to me. Royal Mail have such a high turnover of staff that he'll probably be gone soon.

BrianTheMole · 14/06/2014 18:41

I wouldn't be too impressed by the swastika and the swearing. If this is true.

ShatnersBassoon · 14/06/2014 18:42

Hold fire on the swastika until you've seen it yourself.

The bruises would be more likely to be from boxing or whatever. Dodgy blokes who like a scrap don't tend to hold down decent jobs.

insancerre · 14/06/2014 18:42

He probably thinks the same about you

LynetteScavo · 14/06/2014 18:43

He is working for Royal Mail.

What do you expect?

The "Royal" bit is very misleading. The Queen doesn't vet all postmen personally, y'know.

Maybe he's a victim of domestic abuse. Maybe he plays rugby...so many maybes.

matildasquared · 14/06/2014 18:43

Everything else is excusable apart from the swastika.

The swastika is in an entirely different league. No way is that fucking acceptable. I would complain around that.

Enjoyingmycoffee1981 · 14/06/2014 18:44

I can't believe people are being so PC about a swastika!!!!

Fact is though, I highly doubt that is what your DH saw.

matildasquared · 14/06/2014 18:45

It's a free country op, if he wants a swastika tattoo, he can have one. It actually started off as a peaceful Indian symbol, maybe that's why he's got it.

Oh dear motherfucking god.

x2boys · 14/06/2014 18:45

This a joke right? If not yes you are being very unreasonable.

Animation · 14/06/2014 18:46

Yeah you're right OP he doesn't seem quite right. Swearing outside your door on the phone is a a bit of a give away. Never had a postman do that. Not very professional.

matildasquared · 14/06/2014 18:46

Yes, damned Political Correctness movement, hassling anti-semites since 1993.

Enjoyingmycoffee1981 · 14/06/2014 18:47

Sorry, to be clear. I was surprised how relaxed and 'each to their own' posters were being about the swatika.

Do you know what a swastika represents? Do you really know? Because if you did, you wouldn't be particularly relaxed about it.

As I say though, I doubt that is what your DH saw. You have an opinion of this man, and your DH clearly shares. I think your DH was exaggerating.

Enjoyingmycoffee1981 · 14/06/2014 18:47

My PC is meant left wing and liberal.
