Sorry this is a thread about threads...just seems to me there is something weird going on.....

OP posts:
thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 14:46

Why do you not think that many women have diverse views on every subject apart from nappies,

do you think every mumsnetter should toe some sort of 'partymumsnet line' or pehaps Mr Farrage controlles mumsnet too!

I hope mumsnet stays very diverse and argumentative otherwise how fuckibg boring if we all post the same old crap and agree.

MmeMorrible · 27/05/2014 14:48

Glad we have diverse views etc. but I agree there are a bizarre number of ' I heart Ukip' type threads...

And for the record, I do not heart Ukip.

ballsballsballs · 27/05/2014 14:51

I've wondered that for a while OP.

goshhhhhh · 27/05/2014 14:51

I'm all for diverse views & debate - just fells like there is a preponderance of how great UKIP threads ...

OP posts:
SouthernComforts · 27/05/2014 14:52

I wish there was a UKIP topic so I can hide it. It's the same views and arguments on every thread.

Andcake · 27/05/2014 14:53

In recent days I have noticed this not just on mumsnet - I think UKIPS success has meant a lot of people feel comfortable to say they support them now as they have had success!
It makes me want to cry
here are the ukip mep's
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/ukips-meps-after-months-of-gaffes-and-controversies-meet-the-people-who-will-represent-britain-in-the-european-parliament-9435149.html
sigh
but the problem is many of their views are what a large number of people in the Uk think - some of the blundering quote as are things I am sure I have heard older relatives and family friends say

squoosh · 27/05/2014 14:53

Lots of threads, none of them very well penned.

goshhhhhh · 27/05/2014 14:54

by the way thebody that's not actually what I said...so please don't put words in my mouth. Thanks.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 27/05/2014 14:57

I've not read any UKIP threads, I've not clicked on them.

thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 14:59

Disagree that there have been loads to be honest.

I am a labour voter but am glad to see mumsnetters not confined to north London middle class graduates who home school or privately educate.

Please don't get me wrong all of the above is fine by me but the only way to keep threads fresh is to have/welcome all views as long as they are within the talk guidelines.

Surely it's vital to understand and listen to why people voted UKIP? If fingers are stuck in ears we will, God forbid, go down the French route.

thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 15:01

goshhhh no sorry of course I didn't mean to out words into your mouth. Apologise.

It's just not engaging, not clicking on threads, surely that's how views don't get debated and challenged.

goshhhhhh · 27/05/2014 15:03

I agree debate is important. it just doesn't feel like much of a debate - rather a telling people what they should be thinking.

OP posts:
BuzzardBird · 27/05/2014 15:04

There are a lot of not even thinly veiled bigoted comments which are being allowed to stand and then gaslighting from posters telling you it is not there.

Squidstirfry · 27/05/2014 15:04

Hahaha just from the thread title, yes. And I have thought so for a while now....

thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 15:05

My parents are life long labour voters, very left wing all their lives.

They voted UKIP. If people like this can be turned and persuaded then the main parties need to do more.

It can't be ignored. It's a huge challenge especially to labour I think.

Cornettoninja · 27/05/2014 15:05

I suspected the same goshhhhhh.

It's a valid point that the recent eu election results may have given people a reason to feel more comfortable bringing up the party as a topic, but truthfully you don't often find the average poster touting their party with such zeal unless they're pretty active politically irl.

It's definitely a thing for some organisations to use shills on social media and internet discussion sites as a way of marketing themselves directly. I've seen adverts on people per hour for exactly those kinds of jobs.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 27/05/2014 15:06

I firmly believe that political parties pay staff to spread their message/bring everything vaguely political back to them online.

There's a couple of very obvious UKIP suspects on Mumsnet unfortunately.

Actually I'm going to report this post to MN and ask, if it was found that someone WAS being paid to promote a political party on here whether that would be against talk guidelines.

SolomanDaisy · 27/05/2014 15:08

Of course they are. All the political parties will have employed people to try and manipulate social media. The UKIP ones stand out because they aren't a great fit with MN generally and possibly aren't as experienced at what they're doing.

meditrina · 27/05/2014 15:09

Here are just too many UKIP threads now.

And presumably more to come next week.

GarlicMayonnaise · 27/05/2014 15:11

YANBU.

Mind you, I've long been thinking Labour's nowhere near as good at infiltrating the interwebs as the Tories/UKIP.

meditrina · 27/05/2014 15:15

But Labour is the party whose instructions for manipulation of sites has been bubbled. They are the only party absolutely known to be up to it.

I suspect others followed suit, though.

Viviennemary · 27/05/2014 15:15

Most of the posts are anti UKIP. But it's the main story at the moment so it's not surprising there should be a few threads on the topic. I think Politics is quite interesting at the moment.

thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 15:15

But how would you know if they were? Can't see how you can.

I suppose it's perfectly possible political activists post here but so what.

Debate and challenge. Mumsnetters are up for it aren't they?

Deverethemuzzler · 27/05/2014 15:16

YANBU
Of course they are.
Its being going on for months and it is extremely tedious.
The BNP tried it with much less success.

It is a quick, easy and cheap way to gather information, stir up 'debate' and keep up their profile.

I am absolutely convinced that many of the threads started in the last months have been started as part of a deliberate campaign targeting MN.
