Oh no you are not allowed to imply any racism, bigotry or xenophobia, not even a teensy weensy bit because it hurts UKIP voters' feelings and they'll get cross and vote in someone even worse than farridge

GarlicMayonnaise · 27/05/2014 21:42

Grin Ubik

thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 22:02

Hopefully that won't be the relaxed attitude of piss taking from the main parties or we are in huge trouble.

Do all the MN is anti-Tory people not remember the last general election?? A million and one 'thinking of voting Tory threads' plus all the 'think lib dems might finally clinch it's ones.

MN is pretty floating voter... (though I would agree it normally leans centre left compared to other spaces)

thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 23:24

I would agree mumsnet is generally centre left although of course people often lie about who they actually do vote for as they are afraid to admit it.

Remember the shock labour exit polls and the defeat of Neil kinnock.

I think people lie especially when a party is as controversial as UKIP do that's why the main parties need to really address the swing.

TheBogQueen · 28/05/2014 09:49

So today Scotland's UKIP MEP was reported as being asked what was so terrible about the EU and he replied 'lots of things but I can't recall any right now'

Grin

Perhaps they should have asked about immigration instead...

SirChenjin · 28/05/2014 10:00

I know - he really didn't do himself any favours did he?

That being said, there aren't many politicians who are doing themselves many favours atm...

FidelineandFumblin · 28/05/2014 10:10

'lots of things but I can't recall any right now'

Ouch. Oh I actually feel sorry for him. Maybe he was hungover

HumphreyCobbler · 28/05/2014 10:12

but the ukip party membership are woefully unprepared for any kind of leadership

it has all happened so fast there is just no system in place

look at how they were simply unable to vet their candidates.

goshhhhhh · 28/05/2014 10:14

Woefully unprepared & woefully underskilled

OP posts:
HumphreyCobbler · 28/05/2014 10:14

yes indeed

FidelineandFumblin · 28/05/2014 10:18

but the ukip party membership are woefully unprepared for any kind of leadership

Well they will have to upskill and coordiante fast if they are hoping to be anything other than a flash in the pan. I just can't see that all this "charming" bumbling and having people shooting off message left right and centre has much of a shelf-life for a serious, seat-holding, party.

SirChenjin · 28/05/2014 10:30

I don't know - Boris has made a very long, successful career out of charming bumbling Grin

They might appear disorganised and under/un prepared, but if the will and the support is there -and continues to be there, which I think is perfectly possible unless the other parties get to grips with the issues that people feel UKIP are going to address - then I can easily see them becoming one of the mainstream parties.

TheBogQueen · 28/05/2014 10:31

I'm extremely worried about the prospect of leaving the EU. It has kept the peace. There are still extremely volatile countries in Europe. I would really worry about the economy.

Don't like to think of Britain as this sad little protectionist island, being run by public school boys and men with vague notions about beer, fags and women at home cooking their dinner.

TheBogQueen · 28/05/2014 10:34

I think the only issue that had chimed with the public is immigration.

The reality of leaving the EU is lost

FidelineandFumblin · 28/05/2014 10:37

Presumably even Boris's left hand has a hint what his right hand might do next SirCh Grin

SirChenjin · 28/05/2014 10:37

...I agree. That doesn't mean that the status quo re the EU is an viable option though.

thebodylovesspring · 28/05/2014 10:39

Bog I totally agree but to be honest on Fiderlines point re them being bumbling and unprepared (agree again) what worries me more is the bumbling from Ed and Nick.

They look she'll shocked. Cameron on the other hand looks far more in his stride.

Cameron will absorb UKIP supporters to gain a majority next election if the others don't get their fingers out if their arses and do something.

There are many people who would rather admire Fareage having a pint and a fag rather than an unknown young labour pm telling them they shouldn't be racist and immigration is good for the country!

I detest Farrage but he has hit a nerve and people like my parents, life long labour voters, think he has a point.

Labour need to act desicivly.

SirChenjin · 28/05/2014 10:39

I'm not always convinced Fideline Grin

Perhaps our apparent love of all things charming and bumbling is simply a reaction to the bland, corporate image of our current politicians...?

thebodylovesspring · 28/05/2014 10:42

Boris made me laugh though with his comment to the lib dems, go back to your constituencies and prepare your breakfast

Boris pretends to be stupid and he really isn't. Farrage is a chancer but needs watching.

TheBogQueen · 28/05/2014 10:45

Perhaps not

But I do not see any discussion of a way forward from UKIP. None at all. Just some woolly ideas about a 1950's utopian Britain - which never existed but seems to be situated somewhere between Call the Midwife and Downton Abbey - and some rather nasty campaigning about immigrants taking jobs which would have done Nick Griffin proud.

squoosh · 28/05/2014 10:47

I'm sure the papers are digging furiously for any skeletons in Farage's closet. Hard to imagine he doesn't have any.

squoosh · 28/05/2014 10:48

Yes, UKIP want to retreat to a utopian 1950's England that never even existed.

squoosh · 28/05/2014 10:49

Warm beer, cricket on the village green, police constables who knew your name, no pesky women getting pregnant and demanding maternity leave.
