It is over 100 years since a national election has been won by a party other than the Conservatives and Labour.

What's more the UK Independence Party did it by winning seats not just in every region of England but in Wales and Scotland too!

UKIP opinions are the majority - FACT!

OP posts:
Innermagic · 27/05/2014 12:54

Not the educated majority!

MirandaGoshawk · 27/05/2014 12:55

Many people who voted UKIP this time did it as a kick up the bum to the complacent other parties who aren't listening. It's just two issues - 1) our small island is too crowded and 2) we want to trade with the EU but don't want to be ruled by them in a US of E.

I believe that's it, for most of the people who voted UKIP this time. I did, and for the above reasons. I am not a racist and I would not vote for the BNP, thank you very much. I also would not want to vote for UKIP in a general election - (as came out in interviews on the World at One the other day) hopefully if the other parties listen to this message I won't have to.

But the other parties aren't listening.

Personally I want us to get out of Europe because membership is too expensive. We could do loads for ourselves with that money, and still trade with them, like Switzerland does, and with other places too - the commonwealth, China and the USA - without restrictions.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/05/2014 12:57

Leaving the EU would be a mistake.

squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:02

A MASSIVE mistake.

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 13:02

I believe leaving the EU would be the best thing for England.

They have the majority of the votes, why are people saying this is not the case?

And it was a national election? My above quote is actually a quote from the BBC website

OP posts:
squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:04

Interesting article in the Guardian with Alan Sked, founder of UKIP.

'The party has become a Frankenstein's monster'

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 13:04

dismissing the votes cast due to low voting numbers is just ridiculous and would not be said had Labour or Conservatives come out top...

OP posts:
bringbacksideburns · 27/05/2014 13:05

Yep. Nothing i'd like better than voting in a Party like UKIP whose 11 MEPs miss a third of votes and have one of the worse attendance records. Imagine them in the House of Commons - second and third mortgages galore, paid for by us!

www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/where-have-ukips-absent-meps-really-been-8160595.html

And who needs Maternity leave, eh?? www.leftfootforward.org/2014/05/15-reasons-women-shouldnt-vote-for-ukip/

Aside from the fact they are a bunch of zenophobic closet and not so closet sexist Racists like?

Well done if you used them as a protest vote instead of the Green Party too. Well researched!

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 13:05

Maybe issues in their policy don't affect people as much that do not live in central london?

OP posts:
herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 13:07

I could post links to all political parties that show them in a shit light, it's not really UKIP specific though is it?

OP posts:
TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 27/05/2014 13:07

"UKIP opinions are the majority - FACT!"

UKIP opinions/policies:
Scrapping paid maternity leave
Raising income tax for the poorest 88%
Scrapping holiday entitlement
Speeding up privatisation of the NHS
Abandoning all action on climate change
Abolishing laws to protect your human rights
Cutting education spending and buying three aircraft carriers instead

I'm very glad that I think you're talking crap, OP, or I'd be sorely tempted to emigrate. Fortunately I have a higher opinion of the British public than you seem to.

squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:08

They are a one policy hate machine.

bringbacksideburns · 27/05/2014 13:10

Yes, lets all be like Switzerland. What a brave, unracist, unselfish society they've proved to be in the past. Hmm

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 13:10

I think you mean reducing, not scrapping, maternity pay? I think it's ridiculous how long women get off work paid for and agree that any company would be mad for employing a young single female knowing that she will cost a fortune in payments whilst on maternity - Dont you think the employer has some rights here and should be protected a bit?

OP posts:
Aspiringhuman · 27/05/2014 13:12

The way I've been treated by employers over the years I think they've pretty good rights.

bringbacksideburns · 27/05/2014 13:12

Are you a woman with kids then?

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 27/05/2014 13:13

They have the majority of the votes, why are people saying this is not the case?

Because that is not what you said in the op. you said 'UKIP opinions are the majority - FACT!'

Different thing. Can't you see that? If so few people voted, you cannot possibly know what the majority opinions actually are.

gordyslovesheep · 27/05/2014 13:13

yawn ...people voting in local elections at the exact same time didn't all vote UKIP ...its a protest vote - you are this years BNP

also do tell us how 'coming out of Europe' will benefit a very small island with little home grown industry and lots of foreign investors

squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:13

'I think it's ridiculous how long women get off work paid'

I think you're ridiculous.

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 13:16

Yep sure am, and am planning on having another soon (TTC)

I'm not trying to convert anyone here, but i don't feel it right the rudeness and "right to attack" mode everyone gets into over the UKIP

I do feel that immigration is out of control and can not continue as it is. This is not racism. It would not be classed as racism in any other country.

I am sick of working 45 hours a week and being less well off than other women who sit on their buts with their hand out - I feel the current system doesn't work. Too much, to too many people, for nothing!

OP posts:
TheUnburnt · 27/05/2014 13:16

Oh FGS! It was the European election not the general election, therefore the government is still the bastard Tories and traitorous Lib Dems. UKIP don't even have any frickin MPs. So at least fact check before spouting that you're "overjoyed" Hmm that UKIP have now beat Labour and the Tories.

I wish there was an eye roll smiley.

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 13:19

Because that is not what you said in the op. you said 'UKIP opinions are the majority - FACT!'

Apologies - The majority of voters i should have said - Seeing as you are nit-picking although it's clear what i meant

OP posts:
TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 27/05/2014 13:19

Low voting rates has been used against Labour and Conservatives (and against the Con-Dem coalition) repeatedly for years and years. Sorry you missed that, but it's been an issue well troddened and discussed in the mainstream parties hold.

UKIP aren't the majority, they're just vocal. I've had them at the door repeatedly showing me how little they know about immigration. Just the mainstream, they support those with the most power and kick divides in those with the least in hopes they won't notice the top getting more at their expense.

squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:20

'i don't feel it right the rudeness and "right to attack" mode everyone gets into over the UKIP'

You can support whichever party you like but please don't expect not to be challenged when you start a thread crowing about it.

UKIP are utterly repugnant to many people. Deal with it.

bringbacksideburns · 27/05/2014 13:20

You must have a lot of savings then? Because if ML was scrapped many of us would be in trouble.

Yes lets focus on the minority on Benefits yet again so Right wing Bankers and massive tax dodgers keep out of the papers.
