It is over 100 years since a national election has been won by a party other than the Conservatives and Labour.

What's more the UK Independence Party did it by winning seats not just in every region of England but in Wales and Scotland too!

UKIP opinions are the majority - FACT!

Aspiringhuman · 27/05/2014 16:03

Actually she asserted the the majority of people agreed with UKIP. This is a worse assertion in my opinion. They did not receive the majority of the vote. Furthermore a proportion of those who voted by their own admission were only aware of the stance on Europe and/or immigration. A further proportion of the votes they received were from people who despite know more of their policies used it as a protest vote. Ie they were not in full agreement with UKIP.

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 16:05

Firstly IT WAS a national election and it is FACT that they got more votes than any other party.... Why all the nit-picking at this? Just because you don't personally like it doesn't make it untrue. There are A LOT of people in RL that supported them, it's only on MN that these people don't exist, apparently!

Well, if you want to vote for a party that is intrinsically racist, sexist, disablist et al, you go for it. It's entirely up to you. I think people who are racist, sexist and disablist are horrible, though.

Aspiringhuman · 27/05/2014 16:09

Oh some people agree just not the majority. I guarantee I will not be using the businesses I have seen displaying UKIP posters accompanied by signs saying English customers only. Ok I wouldn't be served by them as I'm not English but colleagues and acquaintances have said they won't use racist businesses either. Thankfully there are more sensible business owners out there.

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 16:11

Who has sign's saying "English customers only" - Are you making that up? They would be closed or hounded in minutes!

"Firstly IT WAS a national election and it is FACT that they got more votes than any other party...."

Yep and it's an election that doesn't matter very much other than as an opinion poll on the current three major parties. They do not have an overall majority, it's hardly a landslide.

It's an election about Europe and they are a one-issue party - the issue is Europe. So they got a lot of votes. It doesn't mean they will get a lot of votes in a General Election because people want to know what a party's stance is on the NHS, Education, defence etc is before they will vote for them.

badtime · 27/05/2014 16:15

OP, if you had said 'UKIP voters constituted the plurality in these European elections (but not the local elections) - FACT!' or some other true statement, you wouldn't have so many people questioning it.

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 16:17

In central London you will be hard-pressed to find an English person! In my sons primary school he was one of 4 white kids in his class, and they were from Albania and Kosavo! He was one of 7 (in a class of 30) who had English as a first language - This SERIOUSLY hindered his learning and development. The teacher spent more time translating and teaching the children basic english and my son ended up being moved to the year above because of this, although he wasn't exceptionally bright or anything. Being a minority in your own country would not happen, and indeed is not the case, in any other European country.

Er, it's not the case in the UK either.

Aspiringhuman · 27/05/2014 16:20

It was a hair dressers on Birmingham. Hopefully they're in trouble soon because myself and a couple of colleagues have complained to the council. I know how they think now so I think they've done me a service. It looked nice otherwise.

weatherall · 27/05/2014 16:21

Not in Scotland.

Another reason why we need yes!

Deverethemuzzler · 27/05/2014 16:22

Bollocks.

I have lived in central London my entire adult life and most of my childhood.

Why do the OP's of these threads think no one else has ever lived in a diverse environment?

badtime · 27/05/2014 16:24

And what have Albania and Kosovo got to do with the EU? There are already restrictions on immigration from there!

Deverethemuzzler · 27/05/2014 16:27

Ha ha.
Details, badtime mere details Grin

Lets not allow facts to get in the way of a jolly good UKIP Hurrah.

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 16:29

I'm just painting a picture of central London for people who do not understand what it's like to be an outsider. I live near southall and i am the the only white english person in both my work place and the block i live in. Some people have never experienced that. London is one of the few places in the United Kingdom in which White Britons comprise less than half of the total population. 37% of the population were born outside the UK, including 24.5% born outside of Europe

OP posts:
badtime · 27/05/2014 16:30

Yes, but it almost looks as if the OP just doesn't like foreigners!

So unusual from a kipper.

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 16:31

And what have Albania and Kosovo got to do with the EU?

did i say it had anything to do with EU? I don't recall that, please quote.

I'm not a racist bigot as you have accused, but as far as immigration is concerned, when is enough enough?

OP posts:
squoosh · 27/05/2014 16:33

'37% of the population were born outside the UK, including 24.5% born outside of Europe'

You can't live in one of the world's major cities and expect to see all white faces and cricket on the village green.

Deverethemuzzler · 27/05/2014 16:34

No you are NOT painting a picture.
You are attempting to whip up hysteria by using exaggeration.

I am 47 and have spent my whole life living in the most diverse boroughs in London and I do not recognise your 'picture'.

What is with the 'white Britons' crap.
You trying to tell me that my OH doesn't count in your 'picture' as British because he is black? Or my kids?

If you are only concerned about the EU and immigration being out of control why include your worry that White Britons make up less than half the total population?

squoosh · 27/05/2014 16:35

'White Britons comprise less than half of the total population'

Are you admitting you have a problem with non white Britons OP?

badtime · 27/05/2014 16:35

How dare they, the not born in the UK scalliwags!

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 16:36

Don't have a go at me for stating statistical facts - They are far varied from any other city in Europe, for which i was making the point

OP posts:
Aspiringhuman · 27/05/2014 16:37

I know what it feels like to feel threatened because of where I'm from. When I walked past that hairdressers last week I was scared to open my mouth in case someone heard my accent and realised I wasn't English. I've stood on a narrow train platform with several hundred drunk and rowdy Celtic fans while wearing a blue and white work uniform now that's scarey. Walking down a street and hearing a variety of different languages, meeting people who are from a variety of different places? That's interesting not scarey.

I wonder how many UKIP members would turn out to be descended from immigrants if it was looked into. Think about all the waves of immigration over the years.

Deverethemuzzler · 27/05/2014 16:38

Answer my question.
What is your issue with non white Britons?
Where do they fit into the whole non racist, just here for the hard working British family deal?

herecomesthesunlala · 27/05/2014 16:39

I am simply trying to "paint a picture" of London for people elsewhere, backed up with FACTS as you all seem to want those so much. It is for this reason that i feel people are turning their backs on other political parties as none the majors will stand up and say enough is enough or put a policy in place to safeguard this country for future generations
