It is over 100 years since a national election has been won by a party other than the Conservatives and Labour.

What's more the UK Independence Party did it by winning seats not just in every region of England but in Wales and Scotland too!

UKIP opinions are the majority - FACT!

fide I think the solution is we take all the food and drink of non British origin into the cupboard so we can have fun and protect the UKIPers from immigrant food and drink.

FidelineandFumblin · 27/05/2014 20:37

Good plan. Bagsy the Ameretto Smile

cardibach · 27/05/2014 20:37

I'm being all Welsh cultural with Welsh language telly on showing welsh cultural Urdd National Eisteddfod. DD is competing there on THursday. Am I real British? As close as possible to the original occupiers of this island? Can I still come into the cupboard?

ToysRLuv · 27/05/2014 20:43

Yes (thanks phone) In, quickly!

squoosh · 27/05/2014 20:46

Downside is the royal family will probably be in the cupboard too what with them being nouveau Brits.

somedizzywhore1804 · 27/05/2014 20:48

I'm also not sure if I qualify as English enough.

I'm really pale. I really love queuing and Rich Teas and Roast Beef. I've got an English accent, in fact I'm an English teacher with an English degree so my dedication to English is clear for all to see (poet and know it Grin)

However if you look back as far as my great grandparents it's a hotch potch of damn Welsh, Scots, Jews and even a bloody German! I'm having an identity crisis.

ToysRLuv · 27/05/2014 20:49

No, this cupboard is a democracy

squoosh · 27/05/2014 20:49

Phew!

dawndonnaagain · 27/05/2014 21:07

Good point squoosh the next King is of Greco German descent, still, his grandparents and great grandparents were here so he can still claim benefits under UKIP and live in London! Grin

cardibach · 27/05/2014 21:07

Thanks, Toys.

ToysRLuv · 27/05/2014 21:14

No worries, cardi. Smile

AutumnStar · 27/05/2014 21:31

Oi, I'm getting back in the cupboard. I've got a jar of biscuit spread with me. Is that British? I mean English. Do I? It depends what colour it is. It's brown. Oh God.

squoosh · 27/05/2014 21:33

Marmalade is very English but then the oranges are from Seville............ Marmite? Too brown? Hp Sauce, brown. Gentleman's Relish, brown.

Dry bread it is then.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 27/05/2014 21:36

Op - I think that what you are trying to say is that someone can have British citizenship but not identify themselves as British. That is absolutely true.

However that has nothing to do with being "English".

My dh identifies as "British", was born in the UK, both his parents were born in the UK, all 4 of his grandparents were born in the UK and I believe all 8 of his grandparents were born in the UK. However, he is not, never has been and never will be English. Because he is Welsh.

It also has nothing to do with colour.

MrsDv identifies as English. Her dh identifies as English. Her children were born in England to two English parents. They are therefore either English or British depending on how they choose to identify.

And far more English than my children.

The fact that my children are (very very - think burn unless wearing factor 50 suncream) white does not make them English. That is ridiculous!

OxfordBags · 27/05/2014 22:35

OP, how does Nigel Farage's own family fit into your theory of Englishness? His wife is German, and their children were born here. Now, legally, and logically, that makes them British/English, but using your 'logic', this means that they are only half-English. So the leader of your party is therefore going against his own ideas on identity and nationality, isn't he? Or is it okay because they are white?

It's so hard to work out when you're not thick.

FernArable · 27/05/2014 22:43

"So why did you tell MrsDeVere that her children's 'Englishness' depended on their colour?

Because if the are black they would have heritige from somewhere else other then english wouldn't they?"

Congratulations to my children who, although they hold duel nationality, are fully white and therefor English.

Although I have an inherited arthritis on my paternal side which can apparently be traced back to Vikings, so 1500 years ago my ancestors came here. Perhaps me and my children should leave?

Myfeet 5 days!?! That must be record! 5days into a new job most of us are too busy trying to remember where the coffee machine is to get ourselves suspended.

mirandabee · 28/05/2014 18:35

What an odious man! It really is depressing that he was capable of being voted in in the first place.
