..with all the immigrants who've come to the UK over the past few years?

Given that I suspect you think there are far too many here and that they are a major cause of our current housing and jobs shortage?

Just asking! :-)

I think they blame the political elite who are offering them nothing. And Labour's masterplan to change the demographic [[ The release of a previously unseen document suggested that Labour’s migration policy over the past decade had been aimed not just at meeting the country’s economic needs, but also the Government’s “social objectives”.

The paper said migration would “enhance economic growth” and made clear that trying to halt or reverse it could be “economically damaging”. But it also stated that immigration had general “benefits” and that a new policy framework was needed to “maximise” the contribution of migration to the Government’s wider social aims.

The Government has always denied that social engineering played a part in its migration policy.

However, the paper, which was written in 2000 at a time when immigration began to increase dramatically, said controls were contrary to its policy objectives and could lead to “social exclusion”]]. -put in place without consulting their supporters.
People in the UK generally lived side by side peacefully with immigrants. It was the fact that there was such a sudden surge in the populace- putting pressure on the NHS, schools and housing that was the problem But anyone who dared to vocalise concern was called racist.

I do wonder what people who voted UKIP think of me, as an Irish person living in the UK. Taking up valuable job?

mrsruffallo · 26/05/2014 18:14

Nobody is talking about making people leave the UK. You are scaremongering.

mrsruffallo · 26/05/2014 18:15

pandarific, I didn't vote UKIP, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

  • I doubt if you went to Eastern Europe you'd find seven English children in a typical Latvian primary school class - or would you? Genuine question smile

I think you have missed the point rather massively there why...

The whole point is, freedom of movement, so if we want to go to latvia we can!

mrsruffallo · 26/05/2014 18:17

Why would we though?

WickedWitchoftheNorthWest · 26/05/2014 18:17

Tucsongirl they might or might not be forced to leave but they would lose their automatic right to be there. So not sure why the EU countries would want to keep the ones that aren't contributing much economically and are a big drain on their healthcare systems, i.e. The many pensioners in Spain. At least the majority of immigrants to the UK are young, healthy, working and paying taxes.

whynowblowwind · 26/05/2014 18:18

I know, but I'm asking is that a good thing when the movement seems to be all one way? I didn't know, though, if I was wrong and actually lots of British families WERE going to Eastern Europe. But I don't think that they are.

mrsruffallo · 26/05/2014 18:19

No, they are not.

Retropear · 26/05/2014 18:20

There are plenty of countries I'd like to live and work in(The Seyshelles would be nice at the moment).Dp had tried to get a Visa a couple of times for the US(he can do his job anywhere)and it's nigh on impossible. There are rules and clearly people being able to live and work in any country of their choosing is not workable which is why we are restricted just the same as others.

Perhaps some MNers would like to draw up their own Eurosceptic manifesto.Clearly many want one,or are large numbers of the population not allowed to have views that differ?

Darkesteyes · 26/05/2014 18:20

My mum is Italian and has lived here since 1960 She is 78. Last autumn we were in our local supermarket and I was helping her with her shopping. I nipped back to get something she forgot while she was still at the till.
She was quiet when I got back....unusual for my mum.

It wasn't until we left the store that she told me that the bloke behind her said "hurry up you fucking foreigner"

So the rhetoric is working well.

WickedWitchoftheNorthWest · 26/05/2014 18:22

mrsruffallo we probably wouldn't want to move to say Latvia but we sure like to live in France and Spain, buy holiday homes there, move there as pensioners, etc. The whole point is being part of Europe with the automatic freedom of movement rather than singling out individual countries to swap directly with. That freedoms of movement provides many benefits to Brits and I don't think UKIP voters are aware of the full picture.

Retropear · 26/05/2014 18:22

And I didn't vote Ukip either, just threw my vote away on Green- again!

I still think we should leave Europe though. It's dead, not workable and vast numbers of it's members clearly don't want it.

Retropear · 26/05/2014 18:23

Wicked re buying in Spain-the rich did and look how that ended.

RazzleDazzleEm · 26/05/2014 18:25

I know, but I'm asking is that a good thing when the movement seems to be all one way?

The point is though Why......its our choice its not fair to say they cant come here because no one is going there....

We can go to LATVIA AND we can claim the same benefits etc as they do here.

We have that choice a choice I am sure many British Families are happy exisits.

RazzleDazzleEm · 26/05/2014 18:27

we probably wouldn't want to move to say Latvia

Rather rude isnt it> Why on earth wouldnt people want to move there, or Poland, or Bulgaria or Romania?

mrsruffallo · 26/05/2014 18:28

I don't claim benefits here, why would I go to Latvia and do it? It's a better way of life here, why do you think Latvians like living here?

WickedWitchoftheNorthWest · 26/05/2014 18:29

Razzle let's stick to the facts, please. Vast numbers of Brits live in France and Spain, very few in Latvia.

mrsruffallo · 26/05/2014 18:29

Have you been to Bulgaria and Romania? You wouldn't want to move there. Poland is nice though.

TucsonGirl · 26/05/2014 18:29

If being able to move around Europe was of benefit to that many British people, UKIP wouldn't be so popular.

"We can go to LATVIA AND we can claim the same benefits etc as they do here. "
I am fairly sure that benefits in Latvia are a lot lower than they are here. So how is that of benefit to British people?

RazzleDazzleEm · 26/05/2014 18:29

I don't claim benefits here, why would I go to Latvia and do it?

Sorry what I meant was, if you went there, you would be cushioned in the same way as people coming here.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 26/05/2014 18:30

immigrants who don't work are no worse than 'natives'? who don't... if there are any true natives here now...

Retropear · 26/05/2014 18:31

Why in gods name would being able to go to Latvia merit staying in Europe?

If that many people want to go they can get a city break.

I'm 45 years old and like the vast majority of British people have never wanted or needed to go to Latvia let alone live there.

I adore France but don't need of want to live there.I can hire a gite should the urge to go overtake all else.Hmm

TucsonGirl · 26/05/2014 18:31

If there are no "true natives" here than are there any " true natives" in any other country?
