and apparently similar results across Europe.

Front Nationale have done particularly well in France. Guardian is reporting similar successes for far right parties in Greece and Denmark.

I am unnerved.

We can't welcome several million people with open arms and happily take their taxes caruthers and then expect that every last one of them will quietly leave without a murmur from them of their British friends. There are millions of EU nationals with jobs, mortgages, partners, children pets etc. What do you think will happen if their right of residence is suddenly stripped from them?

So we have to stay in Europe because we have no choice?

We are allowed to leave Europe after a vote you know?

It's democratic to allow the voters to decide and I for one am willing and happy for this to happen.

mrsruffallo · 26/05/2014 00:31

that was to smiles. The left are looking increasingly thuggish

FidelineandFumblin · 26/05/2014 00:32

I'm not scaremongering mrs I'm pointing out that this is just a protest and noone will let it get as far as a totally unworkable exit.

What I'm saying is, it doesn't matter who looking thuggish. Resorting to rioting (which I NEVER said I wanted) is always done by, let's face it, idiots.

Yes this. A million times this.

WetAugust · 26/05/2014 00:33

Rafais
Read about the Canadian Reform P arty. That,s what UKIP is trying to emulate

caruthers · 26/05/2014 00:34

The scaremongering hasn't worked and the main parties never expected UKIP to get this far.

If they don't listen UKIP will get stronger.

Look at the votes other euro sceptic parties are getting in the UK too.

TheNightIsDark · 26/05/2014 00:36

But what is so bad about being in the EU? I dont understand what everyone is so against.

Sorry I've only just started to get into politics!

caruthers you do realise an 'out' result in an in/out referendum isn't a magic spell that would make all the EU immigrants in the UK go 'poof' in a puff of smoke?

They would have to be asked to leave. Millions of them. Leaving many jobs vacant and houses unoccupied and spouses abandoned and and and...

ExcuseTypos · 26/05/2014 00:36

Have UKIP actually said they will insist EU nationals must leave the uk? Shock how the heck can that happen?

WetAugust · 26/05/2014 00:36

We'll that Eagles labour woman has just dismissed UKIP as a protest vote.

My worst nightmare would be to be stuck in by lift with her. Such a cheerless looking person

Scarletohello · 26/05/2014 00:37

But on the bright side, Nick Griffin has lost his seat...:)

Interesting article.

Fid I dont think anyone is moving anyone, I have not heard anyone say they want to move people out.

I think the status quo will be kept, and immingration within EU stopped.

RazzleDazzleEm · 26/05/2014 00:37

But on the bright side, Nick Griffin has lost his seat... Thank god.

Viviennemary · 26/05/2014 00:38

UKIP is a party that doesn't agree with the EU. Nobody in this country has voted for the EU. I can't see why there is all this scaremongering. I think the people do the scaremongering are more frightening than UKIP.

caruthers · 26/05/2014 00:38

FidelineandFumblin

So we stay in Europe and put up with the uncontrolled immigration because we have no choice?

I don't agree and I voted accordingly as did many others.

RazzleDazzleEm · 26/05/2014 00:38

Well a rep was on BBC this morning and was passionate about not asking people to leave...

caruthers · 26/05/2014 00:39

RazzleDazzleEm

Unspinning the spin can confuse the anti-UKIP section.

FidelineandFumblin · 26/05/2014 00:40

Yay!! Wine Smile

Fid I dont think anyone is moving anyone, I have not heard anyone say they want to move people out.

All entirely hypothetical anyway, but what would be the pointin being a Ukipper and rubberstampping the current level of immigration? Completely undermines their raison detre.

  • I think the people do the scaremongering are more frightening than UKIP

I agree its utter maddness. Esp on here.

Read that article, Milliband says " we thought 15 thou would come here and 15 thou went to Southhampton, we got it wrong"

I think the article was 2010 what has the Labour party done to address the issues in that article?

mrsruffallo · 26/05/2014 00:41

They are not going to force anyone to leave.

WetAugust · 26/05/2014 00:42

UKIP is quite clear that no EU nationals would be expected yo leave the country. It is not about repatriation at all so let's be clear about that

RazzleDazzleEm · 26/05/2014 00:43

I disagree, I think the aim is stop any further un controlled immigration from within the EU.

Immigration is up again, where will it end until its brought under sensible control, sensible meaning, services can cope.

FidelineandFumblin · 26/05/2014 00:44

My entire point is it IS just a protest, it HAS to be. It can't translate to a general election anyway because of various factors including FPTP. But even an unlikely scenario in which we leave the EU could never lead to an exit strategy that reversed EU migration, so the whole thing is essentially pointless.

What I am saying is the opposite of scaremongering, in fact.
