and apparently similar results across Europe.

Front Nationale have done particularly well in France. Guardian is reporting similar successes for far right parties in Greece and Denmark.

I am unnerved.

'I don't believe for one second he is one of us'

Did you vote UKIP, Razzle?

Most of us who did, turned up and bothered to vote because we felt that they were the only party that was on our side.

"Millions of people planning to vote Ukip on Thursday will not simply be registering a protest vote – but will be acting out of belief that the party is “ on their side ”, Mr Farage said.

He insisted: “We are attracting a very large number of people who would not have voted in these European elections. The standard protest in a European election used to be to stay at home.

“We have got people out there who have never voted in their lives going out to vote Ukip on Thursday.

“The use of the word protest is a self-defence mechanism for the political class. They did it after Eastleigh.

“Yes, there will many voters who vote Ukip because it is a European election.

“But there will be many more who vote Ukip because that is the feeling in their heart.

They believe in us because we’re on their side .”

I read something interesting

The Tories will say that you have go vote Tory to get a referendum. But to deliver that they need an overall majority at the GE, which they don't get and even if they do get a majority, people just don't believe Cameron any more.

He says he wouldn't form a. Coalition unless his cioalition partners agreed yo a referendum he says it would be a resigning point. Can you imagine a situation where Tory plus Lib votes would secure a majority and Cameron says "no thanks. You carry on and form a Govt Ed". Because I simply can't believe that he wouldn't sell out for another 5 yeses of coalition.
So many people will vote UKIP regardless, even if it does let labour in because the Tories will then be forced yo acknowledge the big festering boil of EU that has plagued their party since Thatchers time. They will have go split and become an anti EU party at last without the likes of Ken Clark and Hessletine

Whether people vote UKIP or not, I doubt they do it because they think Farage is one of them and has a pint and a fag!

Maybe people vote for someone who knows how to enjoy themselves. I can't imagine going for a swift half with miliband.

JassyRadlett · 26/05/2014 18:29

Me neither, MrsR, but most of the people I go to the pub with I wouldn't trust to run an economy or a health service. Grin

Claig, you still being The Voice of The People? That's some good telepathy you've got going on. For me, I want to see the roadmap to change before I vote for anyone. People's revolutions have a habit of being messy, inefficient and end up being not great for ordinary people.

By the way, MPs' salaries and expenses wouldn't pay for a single referendum, or maybe just about pay for one. Next idea?

This man to have pint with lark is utterly contrived and based on the long-standing American view that they would vote for a man they could go for a beer with.
