to ask how to vote tactically today

tisrainingagain · 22/05/2014 08:15

in order to help keep UKIP out?

Apologies for lack of knowledge. If the European vote is a proportionately representative one (is it?), does this mean that there is no need to vote tactically?

OP posts:

Also the Italian far right, whose MEP complained about one the black female ministers in the Italian parliament, saying she should be a maid.

MinesAPintOfTea · 22/05/2014 13:38

gingham I did wonder if the driver/passenger had a blue badge. There are many reasons not to vote UKIP, but a van driver with a disability using a disabled parking space is not one of them.

JohnCusacksWife · 22/05/2014 13:38

This thread exemplifies to me why UKIP are gaining ground. There is undoubtedly a genuine feeling amongst the population at large that our current immigration policy/laws are lacking.

However, it seems to be impossible to have an open and honest debate on the subject without people immediately playing the "racist" card. As a result none of the mainstream parties, social commentators, media etc are willing to engage seriously in any debate. So those who feel strongly about it gravitate to those who will.

Perhaps if society in general was able to discuss this issue in a measured and reasonable way, without hysterics on either side, then it would take the wind out of UKIP's sails.

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 13:38

Oh, that would be because it wasn't there. I didn't get it from Guido's site.
Easily done, as in easy to get a picture with it there, isn't it. Sorry Gingham but the only threads you have ever posted on are UKIP supporting threads, you're obviously a party member so I have no intention of engaging.

PersonFromPorlock · 22/05/2014 13:39

the Le Pen who has just been advocating the use of Ebola to resolve the immigration problem.

Christ, I missed that. I knew they were vile but...just utterly gobsmacked.

Seriously, there are no words to express how I feel about anyone who could articulate that thought.

HesterShaw · 22/05/2014 13:43

JohnCusacksWife, can I repeat this bit:

Also the Italian far right, whose MEP complained about one the black female ministers in the Italian parliament, saying she should be a maid.

This was a man Farage allies himself with. This is not "playing the racist card". It is giving an example of racism. When did demonstrating examples of racism, and repeating racist statements become "playing the racist card"?

It's like those bloody gays playing the homophobic card when they whine about that chap who wonders if there would be less of them if we shot one poofter. No sense of humour, these gays. It wasn't the guy's REAL opinion! He just put it on Twitter!

HesterShaw · 22/05/2014 13:44

Though actually on reflection, I kind of agree with your post. Sorry.

gotnotimeforthat · 22/05/2014 13:46

i was just about to post the very same photo gingham did.

JohnCusacksWife · 22/05/2014 13:47

Hester, you've made my point for me perfectly!! I am most certainly not defending UKIP, BNP or any racist party. What I'm saying is that if no-one is prepared to discuss genuine concerns about immigration in a grown up, measured way then UKIP et al will thrive. The mainstream parties and society in general needs to face up to the issue and discuss it sensibly, without folk frothing at the mouth!

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 13:48

However we should not forget Godfrey Bloom. Or Geoffrey Clark's thoughts on decreasing the national debt by aborting spina bifida or down's syndrome babies. Laurence Webb's use of the word 'retard'.
Marty Caine who announced on twitter that he 'mocks disability all the time'.
Ad fucking infinitum.

HesterShaw · 22/05/2014 13:50

Yes I know! I realised that after I'd posted it Blush

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 22/05/2014 13:53

Personally I don't see the link between being 'disillusioned' by conservatives and voting ukip instead. IMO ukip aren't more conservative. They are fundamentally different. And further to right.

Why go ukip and not bnp? Doesn't make sense to me. Or do people like to be just a little racist (respectably racist?!) rather than full out? Is it because ukip wear suits not jeans white tshirts and boots....?

Baffling.

gotnotimeforthat · 22/05/2014 13:54

dawndonna Geoffrey clark said that two years ago and was suspended for doing so.

StraddlingTheFence · 22/05/2014 13:55

Well, I expect I shall get flamed for posting this, but...

For anyone planning on voting UKIP today:

  1. Please don't
  2. No? Ok, how about spoiling your ballot paper instead?
  3. Still tempted? How about a protest vote for the left wing anti-Europe party No2EU. More info on my exceedingly unpopular and flamed thread here
StraddlingTheFence · 22/05/2014 13:56

PS. before the flaming begins I didn't vote for them!

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 13:59

I am aware of the situation got but these people are the people for whom you wish to vote and you wonder why those of us with disabled people in the family are scared. You stand for your beliefs staunchly, as do I. God forbid yours win though, what will you do when so many of us were shown to be right?

gotnotimeforthat · 22/05/2014 14:01

dawndonna you do like making assumptions don't you? I stated quite clearly upthread that i am not a UKIP supporter and i will not be voting for them.

VIPissArtist · 22/05/2014 14:02

Re-examine community care and support congregate communities for people with learning disabilities*

As someone's whose close relative was bullied and abused in the community and stolen from, and eventually died...in the wonderful community that does mock people with disabilities, that steals from them and opens them up to abuse..I would not right off the idea that people with LD who are put in cheap housing in rough areas then abandoned.....are put together where they will be safe. Or perhaps, SAFER.

Go and talk to the Down syndrome association and see what they think of living in the community schemes go and hear some of the horror stories about people with LD being taken advantage of, people even moving into their homes, where they live independently and syphoning off their money for drugs.

By all means Dawn, slag off UKIP but please please don't be so naive as to hold up care in the community as the be all ansa.
As someone whose relative has paid the ultimate price, I know all too well its NOT.

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 14:05

I have three disabled children VIP I have a disabled husband and my brother was one of those who had thalidomide.
My family are very, very well known in political circles. We spent the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties fighting for the education rights of those with disabilities. We were involved in the setting up of the Disabled Drivers Association. We were involved in changing attitudes and access.

Viviennemary · 22/05/2014 14:05

If UKIP does well the other parties will get a long awaited shake up. And this will be a good thing IMHO.

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 14:06

gotnotime
I apologise for that. Obviously not reading properly.
Assumptions, not generally, but as I said, apologies.

AlpacaLypse · 22/05/2014 14:08

I've just done chaosmonkey's votematch thing and have somehow or other achieved a more-or-less dead heat between UKIP and The Green Party!

StraddlingTheFence · 22/05/2014 14:08

Maybe Vivienne, it is if UKIP do very well that we have to worry

sunshinecity17 · 22/05/2014 14:31

I can't see anything in the UKIP manifesto about disabilities.
As far as education of children with disabilities goes, I think it needs to be decided on a case by case basis with a presumption towards mainstream education unless that is to the detriment of the child, and other children in the class/school.

VIPissArtist · 22/05/2014 14:36

Good Dawn then you will know of the abuses that some people in the community have been exposed to, as being part of that community and the issues they face, the abuse they can face..and the death they can face?
