to ask how to vote tactically today

tisrainingagain · 22/05/2014 08:15

in order to help keep UKIP out?

Apologies for lack of knowledge. If the European vote is a proportionately representative one (is it?), does this mean that there is no need to vote tactically?

Grin

This is the people's revolution. Can't wait for the results. Grin

bigdog888 · 22/05/2014 10:40

But are they racist Steady - I think that someone can have a view that the UK is overpopulated and therefore want immigration to cease as opposed to wanting immigration to cease because they hate "foreigners". Personally I'd like us to have an Australian type system.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 22/05/2014 10:41

Conservatives get my vote too.

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 10:42

"Why don't you like my children" why are you making this personal?
Because I want to know why anyone would vote for a party that wants to lock people with disabilities up and that wants to deprive children of a fair chance of an education.
Funny, nobody claiming to vote UKIP can answer the question, it's all obfuscatory, oh we didn't say that, it's not on our manifesto now. Actually, what concerns me the most is that for most UKIP voters, they are so blinded by the immigration issue that they've chosen to deliberately ignore the more distasteful parts of the manifesto, just so they can vote for something we already have.

As for making it personal, I'm not. I could have mentioned any children with a disability. I have as much right to express my views as everybody else here. If someone publicly states they are voting for UKIP it is my right to question whether or not they are fully aware of all their policies.

AndHarry · 22/05/2014 10:44

I'm voting for the Greens. DH rang me at work this morning do ask who he should vote for Hmm I told him anyone except UKIP and the BNP.

claig · 22/05/2014 10:45

As Maggie herself might have said

U turn if you want to, I'm for UKIP

HesterShaw · 22/05/2014 10:48

Hear hear.

Ask them about their policies on health, education, affordable housing, welfare, the environment and so on, and dare them to explain them without mentioning the word "immigration" (or any variation thereof).

And if you are remotely concerned about the environment - and again, if you have children then I am baffled why anyone wouldn't be - ask them about their voting record in Europe and their policies on overfishing and trade on endangered species. That was one vote Farage DID turn up for.

HesterShaw · 22/05/2014 10:49

The hear hear was to dawndonna. It was certainly not to claig.

I'm utterly certain Maggie wouldn't have voted for UKIP. She may have been a monster, but she was intelligent.

grassroots · 22/05/2014 10:56

If anyone is still unsure about how they are going to vote their is a BBC link which may help provide more information on the parties. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-27218759.

SteadyEddie · 22/05/2014 10:58

But an immigration system modeled on the system in Australia isn't Zero Immigration.

gotnotimeforthat · 22/05/2014 10:58

DAWN

"Why don't you like my children" why are you making this personal?
Because I want to know why anyone would vote for a party that wants to lock people with disabilities up and that wants to deprive children of a fair chance of an education.

then why not actually ask her why she voting for them?

"If someone publicly states they are voting for UKIP it is my right to question whether or not they are fully aware of all their policies."

but you are not questioning wether she knows the policies. you are asking her why she doesn't like your children.

worldgonecrazy · 22/05/2014 11:00

The Euro elections list of possible candidates was just bizarre.

In my area there was a choice of Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dem or Greens and then:

An Independence from Europe - UK Independence Now
British National Party - Because we can make Britain Better
English Democrats - I'm English, NOT British, Not EUropean! [sic]
Harmony Party - Zero Immigration, Anti-EU, Pro-Jobs
NO2EU - Yes to Workers' Rights
UK Independence Party - (UKIP) I'm guessing this simple tag line was inthe desperate hope that their supporters are not intelligent enough to decide which one they were.
We Demand A Referendum Now - RE-ELECT NIKKI SINCLAIRE MEP

I am no lover of the EU, but I don't think that leaving the EU would be a simple or straightforward process, and I prefer to vote for reform rather than complete abolition. I've voted for the party that I think will be best for the country and that means, first and foremost, getting the economy back on track so that there is actually some money to spend on welfare and development.

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 11:03

I'm asking why she doesn't like children with disabilities. That applies to any UKIP voter. If she is aware of the policy she can engage and discuss, as can any UKIP voter.
I'm still waiting. It's so much easier to pick up on the little irrelavancies though, isn't it, thereby masking the question in hand. Hmm

ExcuseTypos · 22/05/2014 11:05

I'm voting Green today.

I just hope UKIP do badly but I doubt they will. My MIL votes for them and she is definaltey racist.

Joysmum · 22/05/2014 11:07

Conservatives come out top for my beliefs on Europe. It goes against my beliefs for the national and local elections but I will vote for what I believe to be right for Europe and ignore my hatred of national and local level conservatism.

StarGazeyPond · 22/05/2014 11:11

I shall make absolutely sure I vote today Grin

gotnotimeforthat · 22/05/2014 11:11

"I'm asking why she doesn't like children with disabilities."

no you asked why she doesn't like your children with no mention of them having a disability. I can put 2 and 2 together so figured your children must have some sort of disabilty but you didnt actually mention it yourself.

You are just assuming she doesn't like children with disabilities. Not everybody who is voting UKIP has an issue with those with disabilities. the majority of UKIP voters are being won over by the immigration policies.

I'm sure i read that the whole disability thing was just the opinion of one man who has left UKIP altogether now. so it that even a legit policy?

I'm not voting UKIP so i havent done much research on their official policies.

Ploppy16 · 22/05/2014 11:11

I posted this on the other voting thread but will do it here too.
I was on a local FB group last night, I have since quit partly because of what was said:
Many people will be voting UKIP today apparently. Most didn't know about any other policies beyond immigration (oh and did you know we'll all be under Sharia Law soon anyway? I live near these twats...). Any attempt to show them other policies, such as the one's mentioned by Dawndonna or their attitudes towards homosexuality was met with "well all parties have policies we don't agree with"!
Sometimes I think the voting public should he made to take an exam to prove they know what they're doing..

HesterShaw · 22/05/2014 11:13

Quite Ploppy. Didn't Winston Churchill say something like the biggest argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter?

ExitPursuedByABear · 22/05/2014 11:14

According to vote match I'll be voting for the BNP Shock

bigdog888 · 22/05/2014 11:18

But an immigration system modeled on the system in Australia isn't Zero Immigration

Sorry I wasn't clear. I'd personally like a system modelled on Australia - the party you were talking about wants zero immigration and what I was saying is that I wouldn't automatically judge as being racist - I think that someone can hold a valid opinion that the UK is overpopulated and want to cease all immigration without being racist.

gotnotimeforthat · 22/05/2014 11:22

" I think that someone can hold a valid opinion that the UK is overpopulated and want to cease all immigration without being racist."

i completely agree wth Bigdog there.

LongTimeLurking · 22/05/2014 11:23

I have no idea which party to vote for. I can't vote Labour, Libdem or Conservative on principle really. I'm quite eurosceptic and I agree with quite a bit of what Farage has to say on Europe.... unfortunately the rest of their party seems quite bonkers really.

The Green party have a very nice mini-manifesto on their website and I agree with a lot of what they say, however they are very pro-europe and very idealistic ?

GatoradeMeBitch · 22/05/2014 11:27

I see sunshine hasn't come back. People who make that kind of statement can never back it up.

That said, I don't know yet if I will vote. In my voting life I have voted once for Conservative, Labour and Lib Dems and have been disappointed by the results each time. I can't bring myself to vote for any of them. I'm not going to vote for BNP/UKIP. That only really leaves the Green party, so it comes down to whether I have enough time today to go out and cast a protest vote.

bigdog888 · 22/05/2014 11:27

dawndonna I suggest you read some interviews with Star Etheridge to get a better understanding of their policies. They've come a long way since 2010. As for your children, personally I couldn't give a shit about them but I have no desire to lock them up and nor do UKIP.
