to be angry that Abu Hamza's wife and family have a better quality of life than my family?

I know I am not being unreasonable but this is Mumsnet where the world often seems to exist in a parallel reality where right is wrong and wrong is right, however, I'm feeling pretty angry and depressed this morning and felt like having a vent and this is as good a place as any.

Me and my husband who have worked all our lives, paid loads of tax, limited our children to two (even though we would like more) because it is what we can afford from our wages, live in a shitty, small rented flat with limited security, where the kids are squashed together in one small bedroom, have a worse quality of life than Abu Hamza's wife who has never worked, had 7 children all paid for by benefits and lives in a lovely 5 bedroom, million pound council house in Shepherds Bush.

I just don't get it. How is it possible that the wife and children of someone who wanted to kill people simply because they had a different religion or were gay, hates the country and has never worked a day in her life can have a bigger, better home, security for her kids, free money etc when people who work and do everything "the right way" (i.e. live within their means, don't have more children than they can afford) have to live in total insecurity, will never be able to afford their own home, let alone a £1.25 million one provided free from the state. She will probably even have a more secure retirement than us. It's a complete joke and punch in the guts.

I'm sorry, I am just feeling really really upset by this and feel like telling my kids not to bother working hard as you will end up at the back of the queue as the least deserving.

Fastest way of wasting the days of your life - counting others' blessings instead of your own.

You don't know if she's happy, OP. Money really isn't everything

& Im also one who feels the whole Abu H situation was a bloody cheek, he shouldve been rocketed out of the UK along with his hate mantra years ago. & nothing will convince me but that he got a fat load of money to leave. I don't see any point in focusing on or villifying his wife tho

Abu Hamza has nine children from 2 marriages, including a stepson with his second (current) wife. His youngest two children are daughters aged 17 and 14. His 7 sons are all over the age of 18. He oldest son is 32 yrs old. Only 2 of his sons do not have a criminal record-the remaining 5 (including stepson) have all been convicted of various crimes. I think when people understand that we are not talking about cute innocent little toddlers here then perhaps they will be more sympathetic to your OP.

Or they may carry on living their own lives rather than giving themselves ulcers frothing about what other people might be getting compared to them.

MrsStatham · 23/05/2014 07:19

The man's a criminal who wanted to turn the UK into a bloodbath. Not some pathetic benefit cheat. This just highlights how inadequate our system is and how generous we are with tax payers money.

SelectAUserName · 23/05/2014 07:39

Yes, and "the man" is now in prison and out of the country, as per the "system". So far, his wife has not been convicted of any crime. Or have they abolished the basic tenet of "innocent until proven guilty" while I was busy feeding the cat?

JakeBullet · 23/05/2014 07:47

I am with the posters saying that she has not (as far as I know) been convicted of any crime other than being his wife....and am fairly certain I pity her just for that alone.

The house is not hers, she won''t be there forever and another family will benefit when she no longer lives there.

I have a council house in an expensive area too (actually it's HA), I haven't been convicted of any crime and fulfilled the criteria needed to be allocated it. So far as I can see I am in a similar position to this woman (minus the psychotic husband of course).

What you are in effect saying is that people in this woman's position should not be housed....think about that for a bit in case any of your children end up with someone like Abu Hamza...we have plenty of men like this.

No...tell your children to work hard and enjoy life, this woman has possibly had very few choices...your children will have loads of them.

MrsStatham · 23/05/2014 11:11

we have plenty of men like this. Mores the pity.

DenzelWashington · 23/05/2014 13:34

Thanks, Freckletoes. I didn't realise there were 9 children, and that so many had convictions.

Freckletoes · 23/05/2014 13:43

Actually daughters' ages are incorrect-they are 18 and 15. So officially only 1 is actually a child.
