To buy a Nespresso Machine?

The new inissia one, I can't see many reviews online so i'm unsure how good it is. I wouldn't say I'm a snob but instant just isn't cutting it anymore!
Plus I'm sick of paying €5+ for starbucks I know, I know every few days
I was going to buy myself a new handbag this month but I'd rather have the coffee machine!
Its €99 but with €40 cash back that will have to be sent off for and could take 6-8 weeks to come through. The handbag I wanted was €95.

Thoughts?

We have one but we don't buy the nestle capsules buy some very good alternatives ......it was the agreement with dh who wanted one .

HermioneWeasley · 17/05/2014 12:57

YABU to buy a nestle product, but not to buy a coffee maker per se

TheSkiingGardener · 17/05/2014 12:58

Do it! They're bloody wonderful!

PeachyParisian · 17/05/2014 12:58

I thought that only Nespresso capsules fit inside but I'm very pleased to see there are cheaper alternatives! Here I think they are about €3.70 for 10 for the "real" ones.

Can I ask where you get yours from?

f you want one and can afford it then YANBU, but they are a very expensive and environmentally unfriendly way of making pretty mediocre coffee really. You'd be better off with a nice cafetiere and coffee grinder, and you could probably still buy your new handbag.

PeachyParisian · 17/05/2014 12:59

Oooh Hermione what's wrong with nestle?

OP posts:
TheSkiingGardener · 17/05/2014 13:00

I've seen some alternatives in the supermarkets but they are more expensive than the Nespresso ones.

TheSkiingGardener · 17/05/2014 13:01

We recycle all our capsules so not sure about enviromental unfriendliness. And the coffee is very good.

HermioneWeasley · 17/05/2014 13:03

Peachy, I can't believe you're on MN and don't know about nestle! Google "baby milk action" for more info, but in essence they carry out hugely unethical marketing of baby milk in the developing world which makes women reliant on formula instead of free and safe breast milk. This isn't a FF vs BF stance, but it's hard to deny that women living in poverty with no reliable clean water or way of sterilising bottles are better off breast feeding, let alone spending money on formula. Babies die because of this. Personally, I find that abhorrent, but some people think their need for a kit kat is greater.

PeachyParisian · 17/05/2014 13:04

Yes, I thought the pods could just be chucked in with the other metal recycling, is this not the case? Returning them to the store I assume just means they will reuse them for coffee pods rather than whatever else happens to our recycling?

I'm in France so thankfully there are HEMA stores here, 10 pods are €2 and if the quality is as good as the ground stuff I usually buy there I'll be a very happy bunny!

violetbunny · 17/05/2014 13:09

I have an Inissia and it's great, but do watch out as it isn't compatible with all non-nespresso pods

PeachyParisian · 17/05/2014 13:09

Shock I have no DCs so tend to steer clear of any FF or BF threads because I don't think it's fair for me to comment but that is bloody disgusting!

I know the guy who designs the nespresso machines although not well enough to get a free machine I think sometimes I forget that its a huge evil company responsible for them! I know in some parts of the world its not nestle who make the nespresso ones though, I think in australia it's Breville! Is that all still Nestle?

nethunsreject · 17/05/2014 13:09

What Hermione said re Nestlé . Also agree pod coffee is shit.
Save up for a decent coffee machine and bean grinder. MUCH nicer.

PeachyParisian · 17/05/2014 13:13

Not in a position to get a fancy machine at the moment DH wants a milk steamer bit We'll hopefully be moving to the UK soon and I can see they are a bit more expensive over there too.
Is pod coffee worse than costa coffee? because I find that disgusting..

Get one of these: www.amazon.co.uk/White-Porcelain-Coffee-Filter-Cone/dp/B005SQRIV0

JamJimJam · 17/05/2014 13:15

I don't drink coffee, but dh has a Nespresso machine and he loves it. It is used daily.

The capsules are delivered and the empty ones are collected for recycling (nespresso provide a bag for this).

nethunsreject · 17/05/2014 13:16

Imo yes, it's horrible. However some people love it so it's a personal thing. To my Calvanist mind Wink, I think any corner cutting /labour saving devices just won't give you the reward!

I want a steamer too Smile.

Not all of us boycott or dislike Nestle, bit of a generalisation . If it were more than a metaphorical handful of housewives that boycotted them they might be affected.
I have one, it's great.

YBUtterlyU

Gaggia.

nethunsreject · 17/05/2014 13:20

Also, fwiw I've just got a morphy richards cheapo filter machine and a wee bean grinder. I get lovely beans from a local café (God I'm a fucking poncy!)
Asda extra special fair trade ground coffee is lovely actually, if you're not as much of a tosser as me Wink.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 17/05/2014 13:27

My sister has a Nespresso but I don't know if it's the model you mentioned. It makes coffee but it's not particularly good coffee in my opinion. And most definitely not worth the money spent on it. I think the pods are a bloody rip-off.

Instant coffee is a hot drink of some sort but it's not actual proper coffee so I never bother with it. I'd rather have tea.

I have a filter machine, a sweet little 2-cup Bialetti and a 2-cup french-press and they all make a far superior drink than the Nespresso. I can choose what beans/ground I want to use and make it to the strength I like.

coffeeinbed · 17/05/2014 13:27

Pod coffee is disgusting.
And it's very environmentally damaging - to produce and dispose of the silly pods.

It's just a lazy way of making mediocre drink.

Just buy a real coffee machine - Pavoni or Gaggia and be done with it.

travailtotravel · 17/05/2014 13:30

If you are planning on moving back to the UK, your machine may not work when you get here. we had one when we lived in Brussels, and thought it would be ok when we moved back with a plug adaptor, but didn't.
