You know the people I'm talking about, always talking about "blue sky thinking".
Or instead of saying they need to contact someone they say "oh I need to reach out to Jeffrey"

Then you have the people who just take it too far and start using bastard buzz words outside of work. A friend mine told me "you know Frizz you really should reach out to A N Other, they'd really love to hear from you".

IT'S TALK FFS - not "reach out" they're not falling off Everest. Angry

So what's the most annoying bastard buzz words you've heard

I think you need to reflect on your experiences OP and cascade your thinking a bit more so that we can all develop our working toolkit in line with the big picture Grin

Trapper · 14/05/2014 12:57

Glad to see we have finally surfaced this issue in the cloud.

frizzcat · 14/05/2014 12:57

You know, often when I hear these things, the first thing that springs to mind is not "wow, this person knows their stuff and I can learn from them"
It makes me think "oh great here's another work shy bull shitter"

Another one I hate is "lets get them on board". Angry.

We've certainly hit the found running on this on..

sothathatswhenI · 14/05/2014 12:59

ground!!

sothathatswhenI · 14/05/2014 13:00

One I do actually love is "run it up the flagpole and see if it flaps!"
LOVE.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/05/2014 13:01

Do you want to throw it overboard and see if it can swim?

Or are you just two cheeks of the same arse?

Need some Blue Sky Thinking ?

IFoughtTheLaw · 14/05/2014 13:01

Handing me a file: "can you drive this?"

"Low-hanging fruit."

Also hate fashion words like "pieces" instead of CLOTHES, "statement lip/necklace," "pop of colour," ""curate" in the wrong context, "team with," "from day to night" etc etc etc.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 14/05/2014 13:02

Lean in.

applecharlotte · 14/05/2014 13:03

'Getting my ducks in a row' makes my teeth itch. You haven't bloody done it yet, just say it without using bird illustration!

treaclesoda · 14/05/2014 13:03

And whilst we're at it, work related acronyms can piss off too.

What's our SLA and what KPIs do we use to measure it?

SnowCoveredHills · 14/05/2014 13:04

My company is fond of "Cascading" emails i.e. sending emails to a mailing list. But it's not just the term that winds me up, it's the notion of it.

The big manager emails it to 5 people, who are asked to 'cascade' it to their managers, who are asked to 'cascade' it to the rest of the staff.

Surely it would save time, effort and energy if the big manager just set up a mailing list for 'all staff' - hell, he could even get his PA to do it for him if it's that difficult - and then just email everyone with one click....Hmm

Maybe I should 'flag up' the idea for someone to 'action' it...

I also have "So" as a sentence starter. Similar to "Yes".

As in "What did you do this weekend?"
Answer "Yeah, so I went to the beach".

Or "Did you have a nice time?"
Answer: "Yeah, no, it was really good"

I always think those people are lying.

Grrrrrrr

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/05/2014 13:04

Fashion related :

"a nod to" - if pleathers in, it's got a weeny bit on the pocket

"a trouser" oh, that would look lovely with a slim black trouser

PAIR of - pair Confused

DeputyPecksBentBeak · 14/05/2014 13:05

When someone 'actions' something.

Oh yes, I'll just action that for you."

No, you won't. You'll do that for me

SnowCoveredHills · 14/05/2014 13:05

Hate not Have.

Hate, Hate, Hate!!!!

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 14/05/2014 13:05

you forgot "rocking the look" IFTL

frizzcat · 14/05/2014 13:06

I think I've worked with and for some of you.

running it up the flag pole is really quite funny. But terrible misfortune will befall the first person that ever says it to me.

OP posts:
sothathatswhenI · 14/05/2014 13:08

"Yeah,no" (why both? how both?) prefacing any answer .....grrr

Momonga · 14/05/2014 13:09

I get told to think outside the box all the bloody time (which is annoying, because I'm also constantly told my work must 'fit the X Company's vision/previous work').

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 14/05/2014 13:10

Another flagpole one... "Let's run that up the flagpole and see who salutes"

"Singing from the same hymn book"

"Reach out" HATE HATE HATE

But what is wrong with "on the weekend"? Is "on" too American and it's meant to be "at"?

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 14/05/2014 13:11

Or 'investing' in a consumable item such as shoes, handbags, clothes, make up etc.

Am I going to be able to sell it for more money later on? No? Well it's not an investment then, is it?

OK, I know that sometimes something sells out and you can pay several times the retail price on eBay, but that's not what they meant is it?

They probably don't even mean 'buy better quality less often' because that's probably too difficult a concept for the vacuous twits that use the phrase anyway.

And breathe......

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 14/05/2014 13:12

On the front foot.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 14/05/2014 13:12

One that occurred to me having just completed a big building project - and I'm blaming you Kevin 'Grand Designs' McCloud - is the expression a lovely space

No, it's a lovely room... that's what it's called when there is four walls a ceiling, a floor and a lot of air in between.

alltoomuchrightnow · 14/05/2014 13:13

My last boss - whenever a new idea or practise was introduced, it would always be 'rolling it out'
Planning the same for the future would always be 'let's get a picture of this and see how it looks' (NB there was no actual picture, we weren't a creative workplace) Grin
When all our shops followed suite, we were 'rolling it out across the UK'
But the ultimate, was a sound, not a word. She is a keen horsewoman and she would make a clicking noise with her tongue/teeth , to summon staff. I wanted to punch her in the face Grin

JamNan · 14/05/2014 13:14

Yes, yes yes
and...
blah, blah, blah

feckin' hate them.
