Every time a UKIP person speaks, they want to say rape within marriage is ok, Lenny Henry should go back to Black Land, bit too scared to stand in a by election just now...yet

PEOPLE ARE STILL DESPERATE TO VOTE FOR THEM.

What hope is there? Humanity is as truly doomed as ever.

It's all so terrifying (see my current thread on the compulsory abortion idea...) But if I were the PR team for the Green Party right now, I'd very quickly form a campaign saying 'If you want a decent protest vote, vote Green NOT UKIP'. I'll take lentil weavers over misogynist, disablist, racist cunts any day.

Would be interesting to see what would happen if they did gain power and momentum. Wonder how many UKIP voters will kick up a fuss when they see their right go down the swanny. People always complain after the event... Proving once again that hindsight is a b*h

See I agree but just slagging them off is completely playing into the Tories hands.

UKIP are getting the votes that labour should have.

The Tories always look after their own. Always have although now they don't need to hide behind a working class grocers daughter. They are so arrogant and sure that the bloody leader is unashamedly old Etonian.

Totally blame labour for this fiasco. They are so scared to say the wrong thing they say nothing.

The labour front bench should hang their heads in Shame and if UKIP do well so should we all.

Harping on about UKIP being fascists and gassers isn't really doing their cause any harm.
It's just making the entrenched Westminster luvvies look desperate.

If you want a decent protest vote, vote Green

Who'd vote for a party with a policy of absolutely no restriction on any kind of immigration?

Middle class idealism isn't the way forward.

Nigel Farage has disowned his party's entire 2010 election manifesto after he was asked whether the UK Independence party still wanted to introduce a dress code for taxi drivers, regularly deploy armed forces on the street and repaint trains in traditional colours.

The Ukip leader said all the party's policies were under review and he would not commit to new ones until after the European elections in May.

Speaking on BBC2's Daily Politics, Farage argued he was not in charge of the party in 2010 as he was just a candidate – despite having previously led the group between 2006 and 2009. "I don't defend the 2010 manifesto. I didn't put it together," he said.

Call me Dave's referendum on Europe went well.

And he doesn't seem to like furriners that come from any country outside of the EU.

It's panic stations in Westminster as plan B's are considered.

Maybe Dave can disappear like his friend Tony did when it all goes tits up.

Any right wing, or even right of centre party can get lost as far as I'm concerned. This party would make the rich richer and the poor poorer, forget any other policies.

I am not surprised that UKIP seem to be doing so well. I am seeing Xenophobia and in particular Islamaphobia on the increase (in RL and on MN). UKIP are just tapping into pre-existing prejudices.

The UK is not as tolerant as we like to think.

It astonishes me how many people are so easily taken in by UKIP.

There's no saving grace as far as this bunch of oafs go, with their racism / homopobia / misogyny / hypocrisy in place of actual policies, so all we can hope for is that they will split the Tory vote.

Against what..having a non bigoted government?

Can we avoid ad hominem attacks please? Otherwise this thread will be deleted and I will be well cheesed off.

Dione, I don't think the UK is remotely tolerant, and the issues are many and complex and fault lies everywhere in a myriad of ways...but voting for UKIP is still putting the blame in the wrong place.

I am terrified of UKIP, have people not learned the lessons of history?

UKIP are succeeding in convincing the "man on the street" that foreigners, blacks, Muslims are "other" than they are. When we make people "other" we dehumanize them. When we see people as non-human we start gassing them. The really scary thing about the German Nazi period, is that the ordinary "man on the street" was manipulated by the Nazi party, propoganda, scare-mongering, lies and policies, into become the monsters who created the horrors of Belsen, or at the end of the war, the monsters who decided to drop an atomic bomb on a city to see what it would do to end the war.

These are the lessons history has taught us. UKIP are the start of a slippery slope, and for all their banter about being for the man on the street, being non-racist, etc. the people who support them are attracted to them because of their racist and misogynistic policies, not in spite of them. Bloody terrifying.
