To wonder why people are so often against co sleeping?

Maybe I'm a silly lentil weaving hippy, but I really don't understand why people are so obsessed with getting little babies to sleep on their own, and to settle themselves. What on earth is wrong with rocking/feeding to sleep and then tucking your child in (following all the safety advice) next to you?

I thought this study was more interesting than the BMJ one, which collated old studies, most of which didn't differentiate between safe and unsafe bedsharing.

Really interesting webchat as a whole. It's backed up with research too although you may have to search for it. It's about 4 years old now but as she explains in the chat it's very hard to research cot death because it is now so rare. That in itself I found comforting.

OP - my DD is 7. I've always rocked her to sleep until she was 4 & patted her after that, and continue to do so. It's extremely rare that I leave her before she's asleep.

Also we co-slept (first with a baby cot & then with a toddler bed) until she was old & ready enough to ask if she could sleep in her own room. Even now she creeps into my bed many nights.

Never considered doing it any other way. This was the only way that let me sleep peacefully & I love rocking/patting her for as long as she lets me.
