How do you feel about friends who have had abortions? Can you maintain friendships with people who have had an abortion and no regrets?

One of my friends has stunned me, talking about another friend of ours who had considered an abortion and my friend said I'm so glad she didn't because I wouldn't have been able to stay friends with her Shock
I'm really surprised, I'm extremely pro choice and vocal about it but this doesn't bother my friend.
But what my friend doesn't know is that I also had an abortion and although I have no regrets I feel a bit strange around my friend now?

Actually joking apart at the ridiculousness here.

It's very very scary to think that anyone civilised and educated could actually post that in 2014.

AnyaKnowIt · 23/04/2014 15:31

*during childbirth?

Dawndonnaagain · 23/04/2014 15:32

How would the forced birthers feel if/when a woman who was refused an abortion dies or suffers a birth injury?
Fine. The foetus has survived. Look at Bumbley's defence of the situation with poor Savita Halappanavar.

Dawndonnaagain · 23/04/2014 15:32

Unfortunately though, nobody survived that one.

twofingerstoGideon · 23/04/2014 15:32

It is frightening Binky. I'm old enough to remember reading newspaper reports of rape cases where the credibility of the plaintiff was presented as being very much dependent on what she was wearing, whether she was a virgin at the time - in short how 'moral' she was, because being 'immoral' meant you weren't entitled to the protection of the law. I don't see a world of difference between that mindset and the current fixation of anti-abortionists who want to 'judge' whether a woman is entitled to terminate her own pregnancy, depending on a random selection of 'criteria'. Sassy's criteria - off the top of my head - included long term (but not short/medium term) physical (not mental) health risks to the mother. All to be decided by some special court. God, these people make me absolutely furious.

Dawndonnaagain · 23/04/2014 15:33

I shall take that as sincere, despite its undertones.
I think it's disgusting that you do this whilst accusing others of bullying.

basgetti · 23/04/2014 15:34

Bumbley typing yes or no would have taken you a lot less time than that large paragraph.

thebodydoestricks · 23/04/2014 15:35

bumbly only you could fill a couple of paragraphs and say precisely nothing.

Hey ho.

So again interpret that yes it's sad but actually you couldn't care a rats ass about babys real life trauma could you.

No surprise there then.

twofingerstoGideon · 23/04/2014 15:35

Would anyone have the father there, ask what he was wearing, how many women he'd slept with?
Don't be silly, Dawn. Men need regular sex to be fully-functioning, dontcha know?
like this...

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 23/04/2014 15:36

We (as in the media and a depressing percentage of the population) still judge rape victims on their morality, their clothing, their sexuality, their deservedness basically. And then people are talking about making a raped woman stand up in court and defend why she wants to have an abortion? As if her being violated once wasn't enough for you. It's sickening.

You only have to look at the shitstorm over the Cersai/Jaime GoT scene from Monday to see it still in action.

gordyslovesheep · 23/04/2014 15:36

You just make an art of being obtuse Bumbly

please go back to using your medical knowledge to defend the neglect and death of a woman

and answer the question you keep ignoring

bumbleymummy · 23/04/2014 15:36

No, they didn't, because they failed in their duty of care You do not know that she would not have died. She was showing early signs of septicaemia and they missed them. can you not accept that she may have died due to those failings even if she had been given an abortion?

"they wouldn't do as she asked"

Doctors don't usually just do what their patients ask and give them the treatment that they demand. They make decisions based on their own judgements.

Dawndonnaagain · 23/04/2014 15:36

Off to school now. Unfortunately I will not be back until later as dd has extra curricular activities this evening. I would like to thank all of you for the support on this thread and the very kind pms I have had.
Thanks

AnyaKnowIt · 23/04/2014 15:38

If she had the abortion then she wouldn't have septis

MaidOfStars · 23/04/2014 15:38

Bumbley, not sure if you missed this:

Maid, I believe it is currently 2 doctors

And do you agree with the premise that women should be allowed to choose abortion if they are at risk of serious and permanent damage to their physical health, as certified by two doctors?

Here's a clue: the answer is either "yes" or "no". At least as your first word.

What are the types of serious and permanent damage usually included in the criteria?

gordyslovesheep · 23/04/2014 15:38

if the woman died ...well she knew death in childbirth was a possible consequence of daring to have sex - her fault - plenty of people lining up to adopt the baby Hmm

AnyaKnowIt · 23/04/2014 15:39

Still the same old slut shaming women hating...

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 23/04/2014 15:40

And in their judgement a procedure which would have alleviated her pain, stopped her from being at risk of death through septicemia and would have probably been inevitable anyway was not an option to them because they prioritized the rights of the fetus over the wellbeing of the mother. It shouldn't have needed to be a case of life and death for her, especially not when the fetus was 100% going to die anyway.

bumbleymummy · 23/04/2014 15:40

the body, only you would be capable of reading two entire threads and still need to ask me a question that has been answered several times over. hey ho.

thebodydoestricks · 23/04/2014 15:41

Agree very scary.

Dreadful to think that some people would love to be sitting on these judging panels!

Reminds me of the muggle hearings in Harry potter.

Unfortunately some posters do sound just like Umbridge.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 23/04/2014 15:41

And only you would get through nearly 2000 posts worth of thread without giving more than a couple of straight answers.

Hint, the reason people generally avoid straight answers is because they can't reasonably defend their position.

thebodydoestricks · 23/04/2014 15:42

Sweetheart baby asked you. I just wanted to support her.

So what's your opinion?

bumbleymummy · 23/04/2014 15:43

Anya, sepsis is also a possible complication of abortion.

Maid, no, that is not my opinion. It was sassy who said that she agreed with cases in those situations. I'm not sure what her definitions of serious and permanent damage were.

CaptChaos · 23/04/2014 15:44

Sorry, been away reading This

A catalogue of hideous errors. A series of awful mistakes made by people who were too focused on saving the foetus that was killing this poor woman than removing the source of infection.

Words fail me.
