I have read an article on the above where she states despite being 18 weeks pregnant and pleased up until now she will be having an abortion to "further her career" namely to qppear on big brother.

whether this is morally ok is one thing but AIBU to ask if an abortion for the reasons she gives is legal? i suppose its similar to someone saying its not the right time, just more brazen?

(I consider myself pro choice btw I just find her apparent callousness a bit tough to take)

people seriously underestimate the effect of having an unwanted baby on a person's immediate and long term mental health. It really isnt just as simple as "oh well she'll have it and get it raised somehow" thank goodness the doctors making the assessments are realistic about what actually constitutes a risk to mental health.

This all sounds very like the "you just have to shake yourself and get on with it" that gets trotted out to people who have depression.

If this baby posed a risk to her long term physical health no-one would object to the abortion but because it's an 'invisible' illness she should just have to tolerate it. And for what? So other people are satisfied with themselves they won!

FYI- her mental health will have a direct impact on her existing children- never mind the one you are proposing also be subjected to whatever the consequences of a forced birth would be.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 24/04/2014 20:36

And until fairly late in pregnancy, the physical risk of continuing the pregnancy and giving birth is greater than the physical risk of abortion, because a meaningful number of women have pregnancy/birth complications.

Joylin · 24/04/2014 21:06

She wanted the baby and sold stories about it up until a couple of weeks ago, now she sees an abortion as a way of getting media attention, getting into big brother, making money and being famous. When post abortion, she's denied entry to big brother, can't find any other reality show willing to take her, makes very little money and still isn't famous, she'll be using the media to complain about how the abortion ruined her life. She'll be the poster child against it.

There are extremists on both sides of the abortion debate, on one side the fertilised eggs are equal to fully formed humans, the other, fully formed babies capable of living independently are merely clumps of cells whose life is worthless until born. Both attitudes do harm to their own side of the abortion debate.

There's a point where abortion becomes killing a living being, purposely taking the life of a full term baby three minutes before birth is just as murderous, callous and evil as taking their life three minutes after. Ending a pregnancy where life hasn't developed yet doesn't compare.

"She wanted the baby and sold stories about it up until a couple of weeks ago,"

And now she doesnt. She's perfectly entitled to change her mind whether that be at 8 weeks or 18. Do you honestly think she would abort a baby she wanted?

Babymamaroon · 24/04/2014 21:13

YANBU. 18 weeks is really quite far along to terminate for no good reason.

However, I can't help but think about the life that poor little mite would have being born to such a self-centred, selfish woman like her. Maybe it would be for the best.

Sory for double post.

Mothergothel1111 · 24/04/2014 21:21

Vile women.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 24/04/2014 21:24

Who are the vile women?

Joylin · 24/04/2014 21:24

My point is that she only changed her mind because she thinks that an abortion will help her become famous, when that doesn't happen, she'll regret it and will shout that from the rooftops. She'll probably find 'fame' by becoming part of a campaign to have abortion restricted.

basgetti · 24/04/2014 21:26

18 weeks is really quite far along to terminate for no good reason.

Not wanting to be pregnant anymore is a good reason.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 24/04/2014 21:27

Well you're probably right. Everyone else seems to know her better than she does herself afterall Hmm

Joylin · 24/04/2014 21:28

There's also a huge difference between eight and eighteen weeks. At that stage it's fully formed, possibly kicking already and just weeks from viability. Most European countries limit non medical abortion to around the first trimester, just because it's legal in the UK doesn't make it right.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 24/04/2014 21:29

There is no difference under uk law. And she is in the uk. So there is no difference. Regardless of if it kicks Hmm

CaptChaos · 24/04/2014 21:31
CaptChaos · 24/04/2014 21:33

just because it's legal in the UK doesn't make it right.

It makes it right for her, and right for all the women who's situations change radically in the intervening period.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 24/04/2014 21:38

"just because it's legal in the UK doesn't make it right."

That's down to personal opinion. It's right for her.

Horsemad · 24/04/2014 22:19

sillybilly I think most people do know her better than she knows herself.

Most people aren't gullible enough to be duped by her bleatings and can see right through her.

Fame, fortune and a pink Range Rover FFS - what aspirations. Hmm

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 24/04/2014 22:29

No people think that what they think should happen is right and what she has decided will happen is wrong.

Her aspirations are just that, hers. You get to have some of your very own aswell. Leave her to pursue her own.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 24/04/2014 22:45

Easier holidays, getting a non-people mover car at some point, not working to state retirement age - possible with two DCs but not 3 in this house...

Do you say FFS to my aspirations too?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/04/2014 23:36

There was a TV programme a while back about later term abortions. The Doctor they interviewed said that if someone has a late termination he doesn't do it for the sake of the mother/ potential mother he does it for the sake of the unborn unwanted baby.
IHO, they've had time,, so they now don't want to be pg.

Not everyone would agree with his rather cut and dried opinions but there's alot of truth there.

BMW6 · 24/04/2014 23:44

TBH I think that she is just a sad deluded Wannabe, with a Car Crash of a life.

Pitiful

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 25/04/2014 00:07

18 weeks! That's only weeks away from baby surviving outside the mom. And for the sake of appearing on a TV program. Horrible!!

I'm not exactly pro choice ( obviously), can understand it earlier in pregnancy, but not outside first trimester.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 25/04/2014 00:12

It's six weeks after the first trimester and six weeks before the legal limit.

You may not be pro choice but you are, I assume, a UK citizen recognising UK laws.

MoaningLisa · 25/04/2014 00:35

To abort a baby that up until a few weeks ago she wanted, to become a contestant on Big Brother is not and should not be an acceptable reason. She is vile.
