To think that this is a strange combination for siblings' names?

And yes, I know it's none of my business blah blah blah. And for the record I do think that they are both lovely names, however...

A friend of a friend has a DD called Ava, and has just had a baby girl and called her Eva?

AIBU to think that that's practically like calling them both the same name? Plus it just sounds really twee.

I know someone who called her 2x dc Jamie and Oliver.

ACatCalledColin · 09/04/2014 21:27

Not really the same thing but I went to school with a David Davies. I mean, why would you?

I also had a friend in primary school named Ella who had a younger brother named Sam. I've never actually thought that was strange until recently though - I guess because it was always Ella and Sam rather than the other way round.

Eminybob · 09/04/2014 21:29

I worked with someone called Michael Michael.

ACatCalledColin · 09/04/2014 21:29

I also had a friend called Natasha with a sister called Natalie. I think they sound a bit too similar for sibling names but nowhere near as bad as Eva and Ava.

katese11 · 09/04/2014 21:30

I know 2 sisters who have 2 names each (first and middle) -3 of those 4 names are 3 letter words using the same letters in different orders. Think lia/ali/ila. And it was completely accidental!

Eminybob · 09/04/2014 21:31

Oh and my friend's cousin, who's surname is Kelly married a girl called Kelly. And yes she did take his name! She apparently loves it.

Boris13 · 09/04/2014 21:41

My half brother has two half sisters called Gemma

So when asked what his sisters names are.... well.....

MeridianB · 09/04/2014 21:41

A friend of mine swears he knows a married couple called Kate and Sidney Pie.

halfdrunktea · 09/04/2014 21:45

The most similar I've heard of before was Jayden and Jordan.
Ava and Eva is very strange!

x2boys · 09/04/2014 21:49

Sparkley my my grandeds were bill and Ben my dads dad was bill and mums dad was Ben! I also know two fourty something siblings called Sharon and Darren I used to share a house with Sharon when I was a student nurse I wonder if they are the same ones glittery?

2old2beamum · 09/04/2014 21:58

My lovely cousin has a Stephen and a Stephanie (both adopted as young children from different parents so felt she couldn't change their names)

WanderingAway · 09/04/2014 21:59

I have just realised that people could say this about my bro and me. However when you say all my siblings names together it doesnt stand out as much.

Think my mum must have run out of ideas as my older siblings have quite normal/common names but myself and my brother dont.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 09/04/2014 21:59

Blueskies, I'm sure Lauren and Sophia is fine. It took a while before Sophia and Lauren's mum twigged, and she noticed before her friends did. Smile No one would notice Ella and Sam, would they?

NewtRipley · 09/04/2014 22:03

If I had had a girl I would have had Evan and Elle.

TriggersBroom · 09/04/2014 22:04

My kids are Scarlett and Oscar. I didn't even realise there was a "scar" theme until they were about three. Blush

RuddyDuck · 09/04/2014 22:06

I have a friend called Jenny. Her sister is called Jenette, shortened to "Jen". Why would her parents do that???

I also have a friend who called her DD1 "Annette" and DD2 "Anne." Again, why oh why? Never dared ask.

Sharaluck · 09/04/2014 22:06

Perhaps the parents chose the names with a long term view into adulthood when siblings names don't matter much any more.

redrubyindigo · 09/04/2014 22:08

I went to school with sisters called;

Tara and Tamara
Michelle and Shelly

GinSoakedMisery · 09/04/2014 22:08

I worked with someone who had a Jade, Scarlett and Amber. When I said " oh all coloured themed names" she went off on one saying they weren't at all.

My mams NDN are called Jack and Jaqueline, their son and daughter are called Jack and Jaqueline. In Christmas cards they sign From Jack, Jackie, Jack and Jackie x

jonicomelately · 09/04/2014 22:09

Whitney and Britney is brilliant.

TriggersBroom · 09/04/2014 22:09

DH is Jonathan. When he was born, MIL's sister was pissed off because she had baggsied the name Jonathan but MIL used it first. So, she called her DS (DH's cousin) John Jonathan when he came along.

TriggersBroom · 09/04/2014 22:10

Can someone tell me if Scarlett and Oscar is actually that bad. Do people notice?

TriggersBroom · 09/04/2014 22:11

Mind you, it's a bit late now. They're both at senior school.

Quinteszilla · 09/04/2014 22:13

And I thought my friend was bonkers for calling her daughters Gabriella and Daniella!

Bagoffrogs · 09/04/2014 22:13

What a coincidence, my DDs middle names are Ava and Eva. I originally wanted them to have the same middle name but DH thought too weird, so we settled on these very similar names. Also chosen for their shortness.

But for DD first names, perhaps not !
