To think that this is a strange combination for siblings' names?

And yes, I know it's none of my business blah blah blah. And for the record I do think that they are both lovely names, however...

A friend of a friend has a DD called Ava, and has just had a baby girl and called her Eva?

AIBU to think that that's practically like calling them both the same name? Plus it just sounds really twee.

My neighbours are called Adam and Eve

Takver · 10/04/2014 11:50

I knew a couple who were Pat & Paddy - always confused me that Paddy was female, Pat male.

DF often gets funny looks because he is always known by a nickname which is a shortening of our surname (only his DM ever used his given name) - think along the lines Mike Michaels.

I also knew a family in Spain who were father Antonio, mother Antonia, son Antonio Jesús, uncle who lived with them also Antonio - lots of people celebrate their Saint's day there & I always felt a bit sorry for their daughter Raquel!

In contrast, I knew two brothers in the 80s who were called Tarquin and Jason - obviously Jason was named after the classical story before it became such a wildly popular & clichéd name. I was never sure which brother to feel most sorry for . . . Grin

I know a Sandeep and Mandeep.....

And a friend has a Leo and has just called new ds Louis! Confused

DumSpiroSpero · 10/04/2014 16:24

I know sisters named Isabella & Annabelle.

A family in which the two sisters, their female cousin and all 5 children between them have names that start with a hard C/K sound and are quite similar.

My uncles were Charlie & David (Chas and Dave)!

DH's brothers have the same names as my uncles (other side of family) so DD and I have uncles with the same name. I also have two auntie [same name]'s whose son's have the same name Confused .

Best of all is my lovely Dad, William...which is fine until you abbreviate it and add his surname (colloquialism for the, ahem, male appendage Blush Grin ). He has a cousin called Richard!

MummyBeerest · 10/04/2014 16:47

Just came in from a walk and we met Daniel the Springer Spaniel!

Pipbin · 10/04/2014 17:03

I know a Sandeep and Mandeep..... I knew twins called something like Shabina and Sabrina. I worked with Shabina and I asked her about the names being so similar. She said that in Asian families it's common to give twins similar names.

jelabi · 10/04/2014 17:03

I know twins called Kai and Skye ..

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 10/04/2014 17:07

I know a Santos Santos, who's about 14. Could be cultural I guess. Mind you, my dad was Welsh and it was common to be called Owen Owen, John Jones, William Williams or Robert Roberts.

My DD had twins at school who were African, their names were Shock and Shack Grin

TerrorAustralis · 10/04/2014 18:35

Siblings I know, don't have very similar names until you shorten them: Kev, Trev and Bev.

I went to school with a John, who had a brother in the year above, called John.

TerrorAustralis · 10/04/2014 18:38

And there was a Donald McDonald who headed the ABC (Australian equivalent of the BBC) for years.

GilmoursPillow · 10/04/2014 18:44

I knew of twins called Anneliese and Lisa-Anne.

Also of brothers called Kallun and Keelan (plus two other brothers beginning with K (both of which should have been spelt with a C))

WeAreNewHere · 10/04/2014 20:43

Sebastian Coe's son is called Harry. Always makes me smile.

Lesleythegiraffe · 10/04/2014 20:48

I once taught identical twin Indian girls called Nadia and Nadra.

scarffiend · 10/04/2014 20:55
