to vote UKIP?

runnerBeanee · 03/04/2014 09:02

Over time I have warmed to UKIP. I see the other parties as self serving bullshitters. Recently I looked at schools for dd, every local school is bursting at the seams, bulge years etc and it's likely I won't get a school of choice. I've been told be teachers and other parents that a high percentage of the children at said schools do not speak English, so rather than teaching maths, the teachers spend more time just trying to teach English to non English speakers.

I live in an average area, I've been told be friends in other areas that it's the same there. There's not enough housing, schools and NHS resources to cope with the levels of immigration. So which stupid power hungry politicians decided it was a good idea to allow all this immigration when there wasn't the infrastructure to cope with it or the funds to pay for more schools etc?

I'm not from a 'British' family myself and have plenty of non British friends, it's not about racism, it's common sense, you can't have an uncontrolled surge in population and expect public services to cope unless you're happy to pay for it. Though I'm sure the govt arehappy that this has caused wages to be driven down...

Aibu?

one glib speaker + BNP-lite policies = UKIP

Vote for them if you wish OP, but don't expect to get much of a following here.

PetiteRaleuse · 03/04/2014 09:34

Oh so you believe the xenophobia drummed up in the press about immigrants. Yes, go ahead and vote for them, they suit you down to the ground.

runnerBeanee · 03/04/2014 09:34

So none of you have young dc looking for school places then? I don't read the daily fail, can't stand it.

Obviously none of you think I should care about my dc education Hmm strange as many of the other parents I've spoken to in rl are very bothered about immigration and School places.

So if you're non British and UKIP decide resources should be targeted at British people, where does that leave your children then?

mrsjay · 03/04/2014 09:36

do you honestly think Ukip is going to provide support for non english speaking children so the brittish children get a better education OR do you not think they will clear out schools of these children so your kids get a better education

PetiteRaleuse · 03/04/2014 09:36

Nope, couldn't give a shiny shit about my DC's education. Not one tiny mouse dropping. Of course the only way I could demonstrate I did would be by voting for UKIP. Hmm

mrsjay · 03/04/2014 09:36

the ops children speak English so it is fine

exexpat · 03/04/2014 09:37

OP - please can you explain the UKIP education policy to us, and how they are going to pay for it?

runnerBeanee · 03/04/2014 09:37

Oh right, so the fact a teacher told me she can't teach maths as she has to teach her class English instead is not an issue?

RunnerBeanee - trust me, you aren't the only person who feels this way. I live in an area with a huge Nepalese community, however I don't see UKIP spreading anything other than racist, anti disabled, homophobic diatribes which are all great if we all want to be living in a bubble in the 1950s but, do they have ACTUAL policies on housing, infrastructure, education etc? Have they actually said what they'll do differently to help poor stressed out teachers, like my sister & others? No, because they have no ACTUAL policies!!

Blithereens · 03/04/2014 09:38

The idea that Nigel Farage could put together a decent education policy is making me Grin OP, his hero is Putin. He's only interested in being a nutcase ~personality~ and appears to have absolutely no interest in crafting a coherent manifesto or policy documents.

There was this exact same panic over the wave of immigrants from Asian countries, and before that from the West Indes etc. I grew up in Birmingham, went to white-minority schools and certainly never found any teacher ever having to teach English. Ever. Fret not.

(Obviously he is also a terrible bigot and the party is just the English Defence League wearing a comedy hat.)

exexpat · 03/04/2014 09:39

Where UKIP gets its support, according to YouGov research.

I for one would not want to live in a country with policies set by Daily Express/Daily Mail reading men over 60 with little education, and I am not surprised that most of MN feel the same.

Nennypops · 03/04/2014 09:39

OP, you're making massive assumptions about schools and the school your children are likely to go to. Even if a school does have a large immigrant intake, that definitely does not mean that they comprise "mainly non English speakers". Many, many immigrant families speak English fluently, and even if they don't children in schools pick it up incredibly quickly. Teaching in schools is always in English, and if anything the presence of people from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds tends to enrich them.

But, most seriously, YAB not only VVU but are hiding your head in the sand if you seriously think UKIP would solve this "problem". The reality is that, because they have no credible economic policy, they would drive the country into the ground and the fallout from that would leave not only our schools but every other service in the country in a state of chaos.

Scary stats.

The media's role in elections is one of great impact. It is rarely talked about though.

OP, what are you really worried about? Do you mean to say you rely ONLY on the school to teach your DC maths? If they don't learn subtraction during a half hour at school, they will go through life bereft of this valuable skill?

I don't have the faintest idea of how schools/teachers plan lessons, but I am sure other children wont be left "twiddling their thumbs" while the teacher helps a couple of non-english speaking children with language.

mrsjay · 03/04/2014 09:42

the teacher told you she cant teach maths because she is too busy speaking English really that is very unprofessional perhaps the teacher will also want to vote for ukip

FederationPresidentBarryFife · 03/04/2014 09:43

percentage of the children at said schools do not speak English, so rather than teaching maths, the teachers spend more time just trying to teach English to non English speakers.

simply is not true. TBH this seems like an ignorant statement, a sort of "crusade for children's education" to hide what is essentially a racist reaction.

mrsjay · 03/04/2014 09:44

busy speaking English

teaching English sorry

Nennypops · 03/04/2014 09:45

You really have accepted UKIP scaremongering hook, line and sinker, haven't you? I well remember how they were trying to terrify everyone back in December with threats of that "uncontrolled surge" in immigration you talk about - according to them, the entire population of Bulgaria was going to fetch up on these shores on 2nd January. Only absolutely none of it happened, and immigration from Bulgaria has remained at more or less the same levels as it did before.

Trust me, they simply don't have any answers to the problems you perceive. But they're trying to terrify people into voting for them by making out that non-existent problems are about to overwhelm the country. Do you really want to vote for a party that has so little respect for your intelligence?

prh47bridge · 03/04/2014 09:46

Personally I would never vote UKIP.

Though I'm sure the govt are happy that this has caused wages to be driven down

Which presumably is why the government is intent on reducing immigration. It doesn't look like they will achieve Cameron's target but it is definitely down.

any crew that thinks gay marriage causes global warning

All political parties contain individuals who have said incredibly stupid things. The councillor who said this has been suspended by UKIP. They opposed same sex marriage but say they would not overturn it once introduced.

their exposure far far outweighs their support

Polls suggest they have a real chance of getting most votes in the upcoming elections for the EU parliament. They are certainly ahead of the Lib Dems in the polls and have been for some time.

daykin · 03/04/2014 09:47

ds has greater than 50% EAL pupils in his class. He is more than on track to get level 6s in Y6, including maths and he is by no means especially bright. I think a teacher that doesn't teach maths is a shit teacher. I think a teacher that claims she can't teach maths because of all the nasty foreigners is a racist liar.

peggyundercrackers · 03/04/2014 09:47

OP i dont blame you - you wont get any support on here though this place is full of liberal left wing luvvies. You are absolutely right when you say labour and condem have run this country now between them over the last 50 years or so and look where its got us... politicians who dont care about the general public - they treat us with contempt at every available opportunity and yet people still vote for them... nothing will ever change in this country with these main 2 parties at the helm.

will voting UKIP change anything? i dont know if it would but theres one thing - they cant be any worse than the lying cheating bastards we have running the country now.

GossamerHailfilter · 03/04/2014 09:47

Oh right, so the fact a teacher told me she can't teach maths as she has to teach her class English instead is not an issue?

That is such a crock.
