to vote UKIP?

runnerBeanee · 03/04/2014 09:02

Over time I have warmed to UKIP. I see the other parties as self serving bullshitters. Recently I looked at schools for dd, every local school is bursting at the seams, bulge years etc and it's likely I won't get a school of choice. I've been told be teachers and other parents that a high percentage of the children at said schools do not speak English, so rather than teaching maths, the teachers spend more time just trying to teach English to non English speakers.

I live in an average area, I've been told be friends in other areas that it's the same there. There's not enough housing, schools and NHS resources to cope with the levels of immigration. So which stupid power hungry politicians decided it was a good idea to allow all this immigration when there wasn't the infrastructure to cope with it or the funds to pay for more schools etc?

I'm not from a 'British' family myself and have plenty of non British friends, it's not about racism, it's common sense, you can't have an uncontrolled surge in population and expect public services to cope unless you're happy to pay for it. Though I'm sure the govt arehappy that this has caused wages to be driven down...

This thread has restored my faith in Mumsnet.

Now, please, all of you, have a good read of the Green Party Manifesto & then think long and hard about who you want to vote for. Particularly in the European elections. They get disproportionately low media exposure, despite being the only decent party going, so you really do have to have a good google. The ONLY sane option imho.

This is especially true of anyone living in the east of England. Greens missed out by just 1% on getting an MEP this region in 2009. This year UKIP are probably going to kick their arses unless people really decide to wake up & stick it to Farage.

Misspixietrix · 03/04/2014 17:27

Ok. Farage Fans. Please list UKIPs Policies. All of them. .

fideline · 03/04/2014 17:30

Hope you have a comfy chair Misspixie

Contrarian78 · 03/04/2014 17:34

slug He's the only politician I know trying to do himself out of a job.

I can see that UKIP/Farrage have broad appeal (certainly outside of this MN bubble).

OP You're free to vote for whomever you choose. You needn't feel guilty about voting for anyone - especially if you've taken the time to give the matter some thought.

.

Misspixietrix · 03/04/2014 17:41

How predicatable. Immigration by the 3rd paragraph. Pray tell. How is one willing to lead the country with no MPs in his Party?

Misspixietrix · 03/04/2014 17:42

Also if we come out of the EU. Does that mean Farage can no longer be an MEP .

grovel · 03/04/2014 17:44

The real danger of UKIP is that they drive the Tories and Labour to the right.

GossamerHailfilter · 03/04/2014 17:49

Im voting ukip as are most people I speak to

At the closet racist convention??

tznett · 03/04/2014 17:51

What about the sort of country your children will be living and working in once they leave education? Do you want it to be the kind of place UKIP would create? And what about UKIPs policies on education? I went to their website and there's not a single mention of education or how they'd organise it Hmm

tznett · 03/04/2014 17:53

(OK so the word "education" pops up a couple of times but only relating to immigration!)

Had to laugh when their site asked "Do you like this page?" I was looking for the "no" button but there isn't one Grin

DangerRabbit · 03/04/2014 17:54

YABVVVU.

The end.

UptheChimney · 03/04/2014 17:56

I'm not from a 'British' family myself and have plenty of non British friends, it's not about racism

Yes it is.

YABU. Completely.

This country has been hosting immigrants, making a lot of money out of them, and sending out emigrants, for the last 500 years.

The reason you are able to be here from a 'non-British' family yourself is because of immigration.

And the reason we all live affluent, First World lifestyles in comparison with the majority of people in the world, is because of migration, both in & out.

We ran an empire once, and colonised many many peoples. In Australia & Canada, the effect was near-genocide of the indigenous peoples. Put simply, they are here, because we were there.

You are being completely and stupidly Unreasonable

Misspixietrix · 03/04/2014 17:56

The pressure on services is down to cuts to such services not immigration. I'm rather concerned for people who blindly follow what they are told to be honest. The man even praised Putin ffs! I detest the Tories with a passion. I still wouldn't vote for UKIP if I had a gun to my head.

BasketzatDawn · 03/04/2014 17:57

Like others have said, it's a democracy. But I just hope you like fruit cake Grin - not to mention misogyny .....

Ubik1 · 03/04/2014 17:57

They just want to be MEPs. Biggest gravy train going.

Honestly it's sickening, all these people saying their will vote UKIP as some sort of protest when these people have their noses in the trough like all the other politicians.

are fighting amongst ourselves, listening to idiots like Farage, while stuff like this is happening

"The Daily Telegraph’s expose of MPs’ expenses in 2009 when it emerged that Mr Osborne had “flipped” his second home allowance onto the property and increased the mortgage.
He took out a separate £450,000 mortgage on the Cheshire farmhouse in 2003 – reportedly guaranteed by his father Sir Peter Osborne, founder of the Osborne & Little wallpaper chain – and claimed £100,000 on the property between 2003 and 2009 on his MPs’ expenses." Shock

misssfemmefatale · 03/04/2014 17:59

At the closet racist convention?

Well considering I'm a black skinned women no.

Misspixietrix · 03/04/2014 18:01

I will tell you what frightens me though OP. My DM was very ill last year and spent a long time in intensive care. We used to chat to the Nurses about anything and everything and the issue of immigration came up. I mentioned how the Surgeon who had saved my DMs life was an Immigrant and wonder if all the Anti-Immigration people wouldn't have refused to be treated on that basis. Her reply "you'd be suprised". :( So yes if you want such a party with views such as this and with no MPs running the country then go ahead. As a vehement hater of Cameron. I'd rather have the Tories thanks.

YouTheCat · 03/04/2014 18:07

Just because you're black, doesn't mean you can't be a racist.

Nancy66 · 03/04/2014 18:08

they'll do well at the European elections because people will use it as a protest vote to send a message to the main parties.

plus older people are much more likely to vote at the European elections, doubt it will transfer to general election though

shakethetree · 03/04/2014 18:16

You can vote for who you like - & what's the big deal anyway? it's only UKIP you're voting for not Robert Mugabe. A lot of people like UKIP, ( outside of mumsnet of course ) he says what a lot of ordinary people are thinking I suppose, plus he has a bit of personality, & politicians with even an ounce of personality are few & far between these days.

YouTheCat · 03/04/2014 18:18

Yeah because personality is what counts. Hmm

He has no actual policies. Hitler had plenty of personality too, as did Stalin.

RedToothBrush · 03/04/2014 18:25

Wow, there number of posters who are using their colour as a justification for voting for UKIP is pretty incredible on this thread.

Point: You shouldn't need to point it out. It makes no difference what so ever. The fact you do to justify yourself, in itself says something. If there was no issue, you wouldn't need to say at all. Racism isn't an exclusive Whites Only club.

If anything I also find it worse as it then reflects a lack of understanding of your own family history and why your relatives decided to make the enormous decision and leave where they were born. Relatives who, in most cases, since the majority of migration of non-white ethnic groups to the UK has been since WWII and therefore won't be more than a generation or two at most away.

Its incredibly short sighted. And actually very sad in its own way.
