So we were talking about relationships at work and I said - I can't believe I've been with my partner for 5 years, that shit cray"

My colleague gave me this look Confused and said don't ever say that again and then laughed.

Aibu to think I can say what I want.

I have 17 year old twins and a 19 year old, even they don't use that sort of slang. I would quickly be told it's for 'kids', meaning thirteen year olds in their eyes.

I thought that the thread title had a typo Confused

I would have had absolutely no idea what piece of information you were trying to communicate OP

On the other hand I do love a good typo in the office . On Friday I received a ecology report back stating that there was no evidence of bats roosting or breeding but that he couldn't rule out "a solitary bat under the panties" I sniggered in a most juvenile way Grin

5Foot5 · 30/03/2014 18:54

If anyone where I work said "that shit cray" everyone would look a bit puzzled and say "What?"

But then I don't think there is a single one of us under 30.

I have a teenage DD and she says she knows the phrase but no-one she knows would ever ever use it at risk of sounding ridiculous.

GandalfsBeard · 30/03/2014 18:57

Having skimmed through the thread to discover what on earth 'that shit cray' actually means, I have one question OP.
We're you joking when you said "that shit cray" or do you actually talk like that? Confused

OwlCapone · 30/03/2014 18:59

owl I think the point hakuna was trying to make was that perhaps we were being racist, stereotypical, sexist etc etc.

Yes, but she hasn't really said anything like "oh, I see. It is used by Kanye west" despite posting since.

Besides, is it racist etc to attribute rap type slang to a rapper?

Chottie · 30/03/2014 19:02

OP - that language was not suitable for the workplace and your colleague was trying to tell you this in a polite, not preachy way - so listen and learn :)

Pumpkinpositive · 30/03/2014 19:04

Is this a reverse?

I hate reverses. Sad

Ohbyethen · 30/03/2014 19:06

Coming in at the end there with s bit of sock puppet theatre and still failing. And lol that no MNer would possibly listen to Kanye or be anything other than white, MC, 40 year old women (who definitely wouldn't be listening to anything but The Choir).
Sunday's are always such fun.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 30/03/2014 19:06

Me too Dawn, actually ds19 said it should only be used if you are singing/rapping along to the song.

And even then you should be school age

landrover · 30/03/2014 19:08

Ha you sound ridiculous!!!

Ohbyethen · 30/03/2014 19:08

Switched to the plural there halfway through. Totes awks, my bad.

Lj8893 · 30/03/2014 19:23

ohbyethen I missed the sock puppetry (and I love a sock puppet) who was it so I can go back and read!

MetellaEstMater · 30/03/2014 20:00

If somebody said that in my office everyone would assume it was to do with seafood and perhaps Pret had run out of crayfish and rocket sandwiches.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/03/2014 20:02

It's almost as bad as that woman on this morning who said "don't be gel be ream"

I was never able to watch it again

ProtegeMoi · 30/03/2014 20:14

YANBU

You are perfectly entitled to say whatever you like, providing you don't mind being labeled as illiterate and uneducated.

KanyeWest · 30/03/2014 20:33

This thread is shit cray!

BornLippy · 30/03/2014 20:40

OP I would have cringed massively if I heard you say 'that shit cray', which is obviously what your colleague did.

Besides, urban dictionary states the definition is actually 'extreme baller status'. In which case, you used the phrase inappropriately/out of context and therefore yabu Grin

5Foot5 · 31/03/2014 13:47

BornLippy And that helps how? I have no idea what an extreme baller status is.

And can I just ask why anyone bothers to shorten the word "crazy" by removing just one letter? It's not even as if it is such a long word to begin with.

HighwayRat · 31/03/2014 13:50

People who say 'cray' need a smack, in the face, with a brick

thebody · 31/03/2014 13:51

mintyy page 1 best response.

op arnt you supposed to be at school petal. mind you my young teen dds would rip the piss out of you for that.

thebody · 31/03/2014 13:53

what's ream? second thoughts I couldn't give a crap!

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 31/03/2014 14:12

urgh people who try to be 'edgy' like this make me feel uncomfortable. though I do agree with you, OP, re taking professionally offended to a whole new level.

Heathcliff27 · 31/03/2014 14:28

I'm far too old to understand the majority of this thread, however, if any member of my senior staff spoke like this any respect I had for them would instantly fly out of the window

missmysexybody · 31/03/2014 14:29
