So we were talking about relationships at work and I said - I can't believe I've been with my partner for 5 years, that shit cray"

My colleague gave me this look Confused and said don't ever say that again and then laughed.

Aibu to think I can say what I want.

If someone more senior than me said that in the workplace then my respect for that person would plummet - I hope no one more senior than you heard the conversation

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 30/03/2014 14:43

I do those. Why not? Do you 'tmi'? Omg? If not, live a little... There's a context for everything. Cray seems a bit affected maybe. There's always a line, but might depend on ops background or age or line of work. Don't think she said...? If they work in fashion etc it might not seem so weird. Housing association 'nother story....

Nosleeptillbedtime · 30/03/2014 14:50

Seriously op, this happened to me once. I used some slang and a friend looked, laughed and said, ' never, ever say that again'. I just laughed. I didn't say it again as it was a bit knobby coming from me. I think you should take what your colleague said in good heart. If this minor event offends you, you will spend a lot of your life being ( unnecessarily) upset.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/03/2014 14:52

I'm 25, though aware of the phrase exists I've only heard one person use it in real life. I believe I may have laughed and suggested they not say it again.

Were it not for the context you used it it in, I would wonder if you were actually that person op.

It's an appallingly cringeworthy slang phrase, worse than almost all others.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/03/2014 14:54

I think "that shit cray" came to be vaguely common parlance with teens and 20's through Made in Chelsea.

Imagine someone very posh saying "that shit cray". Sounds well cool Grin

Jollyphonics · 30/03/2014 14:56

This has got to be a joke surely? No one really says bizarre stuff like that in real life do they? Not grown ups at least.

GarlicMarchHare · 30/03/2014 14:57

Why not? Do you 'tmi'? Omg? If not, live a little...

I say 'too much information' and 'oh my god'. I have been known to say 'lol' and 'yolo'.

I don't imagine it sounds too good coming from me. I'm 59 and cray-cray, kk?! I da boss. Wink

ADishBestEatenCold · 30/03/2014 15:00

If I heard someone 'posh' say "that shit cray" I would assume 'Cray' was the gardener/handyman and that he hadn't been clearing up after the dogs properly!

poorbuthappy · 30/03/2014 15:02

I say yolo and I'm 39.
But I am referring to the outdoorsy fir welsh bloke off the tele. Smile

GarlicMarchHare · 30/03/2014 15:03

Troof, yo, AD. Respect.

sweeterthanhoney · 30/03/2014 15:07

Never heard "shit cray" before. Every day's a school day on Mumsnet, isn't it? Or should that be, innit?

No-one says "innit" anymore and it wasn't even "cool" to say it at the time.

Hulababy · 30/03/2014 15:16

Sweeterthanhoney -how old are you?

Never heard the phrase at all. Seems a very odd one! I must be very old.

hunreeeal · 30/03/2014 15:19
Biscuit
Badvoc · 30/03/2014 15:23

I have absolutely now idea what any of this means.....

AchyFox · 30/03/2014 15:28

Maybe she is related to the Krays and thought you were insulting them ?

TheXxed · 30/03/2014 15:31

Sweeter without question yabu, to determine just how unreasonable you are being we need your age and location.

Caitlin17 · 30/03/2014 15:32

Why did you say it ? I wouldn't say "shit" in a work situation (actually probably any situation)

"Cray" for crazy makes no sense

ADishBestEatenCold · 30/03/2014 15:33

Back to bed, Badvoc? It's half past three in the afternoon!

(and I'm sitting in front of the fire in my pjs)

nkf · 30/03/2014 15:33

Do you think she shouldn't have said it because you are higher up? Or bcause you only meant it ironically? Or ...oh hell, I don't know. Just don't say it ever again.

member · 30/03/2014 15:33

Let da haterZZZZ h8

Lauren83 · 30/03/2014 15:34

I saw a 20 year old girl say it once on Facebook and I cringed so bad for her, I know everyone was laughing behind her back, my partner said amazeballs once, he is 36, I don't think I had sex with him for a couple of weeks after that!

Badvoc · 30/03/2014 15:35

I am ill
:(
And I still don't understand any of this thread.
(Could be the painkillers?)
I have a new fluffy onsie though :)
