I took my cockapoo for grooming at Pets At Home in Brentford and discussed the grooming. The groomer checked my dog all over and was happy there was no matting and we agreed how short the fur was to be cut. I was then asked to sign a form. However, when I returned 3 hours later to collect the dog I was angry to discover the groomer had shaved all my dog's hair off and disingenuously suggested she was full of matts. My dog is now barely recognisable.

Is it possible the groomer discovered matting upon closer inspection?

Maybe there were matts deeper down?

Would suggest you go to a proper groomer next time... pref one who has been trained as such and has their C&G.... ours will always ring if something comes up about the cut...

You need to ask for Sharon Sophia, she did a great job on my Mini Schnauzer and 2 Affens. Dont just make a random appointment make sure you just use her.

Go back and ask for a proper explanation and explain how disappointed you were.

Always the best thing is to take a pic of your dog or a similar one looking how you want and leave it with them for reference. Also build up a relationship with a specific groomer so they get to know you and your dog.

OP - the groomer should have phoned you if there was a problem, it might be time to find somewhere new to go

Until a dog has been groomed out the groomer cannot tell what state the coat is in. I have had to shave dogs who on closer inspection did have areas of matting. Would you have preferred a longer length coat with patchy shaved areas or a uniform cut which in a few weeks will be the length you are more comfortable with?

There is no recognised breed as a "cockerpoo". Cocker spaniel cross poodle is fine. Mutt is fine. Making up ridiculous names in order to charge a fortune for a cross breed dog is not fine.

People know what a cockerpoo is and using this term is perfectly reasonable as you'd have a fair idea of what the coat would be like. If OP had said mongrel the coat could be anywhere between a whippet or an afghan hound and there'd be loads of posts asking what sort of coat the dog had.

Actually you have no idea what the coat could be like. A crossbred dog could have a cocker spaniel coat (fur) or a poodle coat (hair). They have two completely different types of coat, and the management of those coats is different.
