To let myself into upstairs flat?

I live in a house converted into flats. I don't know the lady upstairs that well but well enough to have conversations with if we bump into eachother.

The door to her flat is right opposite my door. For the last 2 days I haven't heard her come in or go out, and her keys have been in her door. WIBU to go up and check nobody's dead in there?! Or is that overstepping boundaries?

Just go and knock on her door. If she answers you can tell her that you wanted to let her know her keys are in her door. If she doesn't then either call 101 or tentatively open her door and shout 'hello, are you okay' If no answer i think it would be okay to go in and check.

Knock loudly on the door, then open it and shout 'hello?' If not response I think it would be ok to give a quick check of the rooms in case the neighbour has fallen somewhere.

Why didn't you take the keys out of the door and leave a note?

Yes, if the keys are still there today of course you should go and knock.

I didn't even consider the police! I'll be really embarrassed if it's nothing though?

I knocked yesterday I'm going to go and ring her bell downstairs now

There are only 3 flats in the house and the other is downstairs so it's only me and her that come upstairs, I wondered if maybe she'd left them there on purpose?!

Why did you not knock to say the keys were in the door?!

I would go and knock right now, stick my head in the door and call for her, then I would call 101.

I had to do this when my neighbour left his doors wide open and we didn't know who or what was in the house. Police attended and checked it out. He'd gone on holiday Shock

Definitely call 101. I had to last year for my elderly neighbour who I hadn't heard or seen for a few days and he hadn't put his bin out. Turns out he was staying with relatives but the police said that to call them was absolutely the right thing to do.

Are her keys in the outside of the door, or have you been peeking through her keyhole and seen them? Definitely knock/ring shout to see if she's okay. Please think about calling 101 if you can't get hold of her.

id call 101, its better to be safe than sorry, i know it can feel like your wasting thier time or making a deal out of nothing. but im sure she would appricate the though, if nothing is wrong. and the police will not mind at all.

Yes, if you can't get an answer this time, definitely call the police. Going in yourself could put you in a difficult position if there's nothing wrong. And if there is something wrong, you will need the emergency services anyway.

Ringing the bell is a good first step! Then the police if you get no answer. They will take it seriously. Hope she's ok.
