To let myself into upstairs flat?

MrsDrRanj · 20/02/2014 12:26

I live in a house converted into flats. I don't know the lady upstairs that well but well enough to have conversations with if we bump into eachother.

The door to her flat is right opposite my door. For the last 2 days I haven't heard her come in or go out, and her keys have been in her door. WIBU to go up and check nobody's dead in there?! Or is that overstepping boundaries?

Her keys are in the door? Wtf? That's not right.

Call 101?

deadduck · 20/02/2014 12:27

Call 111?

deadduck · 20/02/2014 12:28

Sorry, that's the one, 101 Blush

SoldAtAuction · 20/02/2014 12:28

I am assuming you have tried knocking loudly?

SaucyJack · 20/02/2014 12:28

UM, nope! Not in those circs!

littlewhitebag · 20/02/2014 12:30

Just go and knock on her door. If she answers you can tell her that you wanted to let her know her keys are in her door. If she doesn't then either call 101 or tentatively open her door and shout 'hello, are you okay' If no answer i think it would be okay to go in and check.

OrangePixie · 20/02/2014 12:30

Call 101. Police do welfare checks all the time.

Fairenuff · 20/02/2014 12:30

Knock loudly on the door, then open it and shout 'hello?' If not response I think it would be ok to give a quick check of the rooms in case the neighbour has fallen somewhere.

WorraLiberty · 20/02/2014 12:30

I take it you've obviously knocked at the door, yesterday?

Why didn't you take the keys out of the door and leave a note?

Yes, if the keys are still there today of course you should go and knock.

OrangePixie · 20/02/2014 12:31

Call 101. Police do welfare checks all the time.

Sleepyhoglet · 20/02/2014 12:32

Go knock loudly

Sleepyhoglet · 20/02/2014 12:32

I'd be too scared to go in

OneMoreCupOfTea · 20/02/2014 12:34

Have you seriously been walking past her front door with the keys in it for the last two days and not knocked on the door to let her know?

MrsDrRanj · 20/02/2014 12:34

I didn't even consider the police! I'll be really embarrassed if it's nothing though?

I knocked yesterday I'm going to go and ring her bell downstairs now

OP posts:
MimsyBorogroves · 20/02/2014 12:35

Knock, and if nothing ring the police.

Hope everything is okay.

MrsDrRanj · 20/02/2014 12:35

There are only 3 flats in the house and the other is downstairs so it's only me and her that come upstairs, I wondered if maybe she'd left them there on purpose?!

OP posts:
littlewhitebag · 20/02/2014 12:36

If you have her phone number could you try ringing her?

K8Middleton · 20/02/2014 12:36

Why did you not knock to say the keys were in the door?!

I would go and knock right now, stick my head in the door and call for her, then I would call 101.

I had to do this when my neighbour left his doors wide open and we didn't know who or what was in the house. Police attended and checked it out. He'd gone on holiday Shock

WorraLiberty · 20/02/2014 12:37

When you knocked yesterday and got no answer, did you not think to take the keys out of the door and leave a note?

RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock · 20/02/2014 12:38

Definitely call 101. I had to last year for my elderly neighbour who I hadn't heard or seen for a few days and he hadn't put his bin out. Turns out he was staying with relatives but the police said that to call them was absolutely the right thing to do.

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 20/02/2014 12:38

Are her keys in the outside of the door, or have you been peeking through her keyhole and seen them? Definitely knock/ring shout to see if she's okay. Please think about calling 101 if you can't get hold of her.

wonderingsoul · 20/02/2014 12:42

id call 101, its better to be safe than sorry, i know it can feel like your wasting thier time or making a deal out of nothing. but im sure she would appricate the though, if nothing is wrong. and the police will not mind at all.

TidyDancer · 20/02/2014 12:44

Yes, if you can't get an answer this time, definitely call the police. Going in yourself could put you in a difficult position if there's nothing wrong. And if there is something wrong, you will need the emergency services anyway.

RevoltInParadise · 20/02/2014 12:49

Hope all is ok.

MaryWestmacott · 20/02/2014 12:52

Ringing the bell is a good first step! Then the police if you get no answer. They will take it seriously. Hope she's ok.
