People with bad asthma/copd/other lung conditions who cost NHS hundreds of pounds for treatment then fuck up the treatment by smoking.

Wonder why they feel shit then go have another fag at the hospital door then back up for more meds!

A lot of disease today is caused by lifestyle choices and the nhs helps them too, type 2 diabetics, heart disease, hypertension.

what if you have young kids and are at high risk of dying from it and are frequently in ICU then come out and continue on 20 a day?

Actually Hotmad, those diseases are mostly due to poverty.

Also , remember that starting smoking can often pre -date the asthma/lung condition, so the addiction has already taken hold.It's not always a case of starting smoking knowing you have a existing lung condition.

But why not try and stop. why not make that your priority? Everyone else has to run around doing school/nursery runs as they are too breathless but can sit and home and puff away on a fag.

I am one of these very selfish people who smoked and also asthmatic. I also have a few serious mental health issues and tbh smoking is one of the very few things that actually gives me immediate (if temporary) relief. I will probably start smoking again after this baby is born. I feel no guilt over this, its my life and my choice thanks.

So you personally know every single asthmatic who smokes and know for a fact they all have kids in school and someone else has to do their runs? How remarkable.

I had am asthmatic neighbour who's doctor told him to start smoking again.

When he gave up, his asthma symptoms worsened. They would get him stabilised, but then he'd have another attack. After the third attack, the doctor was asking him and his wife about what had changed - wondering about allergic reactions etc - and when he discovered that he had stopped smoking about two weeks before his first attack, he told him that he had come across a case where smoking actually alleviated the symptoms, and maybe he should consider restarting if they couldn't find anything else that could be triggering it.

He did, and hasn't had an attack since - that was over two years ago.

What does 'selfish' have to do with it? It's not like they are doing something that benefits them to the detriment of others.

Look up the word 'selfish' as well as 'addiction' while you are at it.
