to think that people with asthma who smoke are selfish?

People with bad asthma/copd/other lung conditions who cost NHS hundreds of pounds for treatment then fuck up the treatment by smoking.

Wonder why they feel shit then go have another fag at the hospital door then back up for more meds!

Smoking is selfish. Drinking is selfish. Being too fat is selfish. Being too thin is selfish. Having children is selfish. Not having children is selfish. Working is selfish. Not working is selfish.
Face it, we're all just selfish, worthless twats, twatting around and spoiling it for everyone else.
Hmm

LillyAlien · 19/02/2014 23:11

Do we detect the real question creeping in here? OP was slightly inconvenienced by having to drop off a child for someone ill at home with asthma. Obviously she wished she had the luxury of staying at home vicariously smoking delicious cigarettes and coughing and feeling shit.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 19/02/2014 23:13

Smoorikins - I can relate to your neighbour! I only experience asthma probs when I am pregnant, and therefore not smoking! The rest of the time I have maybe 1-2 attacks a year always related to an existing trigger! Weird.

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/02/2014 23:13

Funny you say that Smoor.

I used to find that if I felt an asthma attack coming on a fag would help regulate my breathing.

Sounds bonkers, I know!

quaginty · 19/02/2014 23:16

I am going to wait a few months and post a reverse AIBU.

"AIBU to feel pissed off at my nurse who told me I should try harder to stop smoking. I have just got out of ICU with my asthma and she was really rude. Smoking helps to calm me down and my dc have both been really worried recenly that am going to die so need something to help."

OP posts:
quaginty · 19/02/2014 23:17

preg hormones make asthma bad, that is well known.

CoteDAzur · 19/02/2014 23:19

Yes, smoking when you have asthma is a bad idea. Nobody is saying it isn't.

'Selfish' has nothing to do with it, though.

Smoorikins · 19/02/2014 23:20

quaginty, if my neighbour was pregnant then I think the doctor would have had bigger issues to worry about than his smoking...

quaginty · 19/02/2014 23:21

cote - her kids cry and worry Mummy will die when she is ventilated in ICU. Selfish to continue to damage lungs and not help condition.

OP posts:
quaginty · 19/02/2014 23:21

smoorikins. The Dr was a twat - neighbour should sue when he gets lung cancer.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 19/02/2014 23:22

If you've got such a problem with it OP, just stop helping them out.

No-one likes a martyr

Funnyfoot · 19/02/2014 23:26

I haven't smoked for 12 months. I have been on ICU twice this year. Before I stopped smoking I was admitted once a year and this coincided with having the annual bout of flu.
Funny thing is my motivation for stopping smoking was that I no longer wanted an annual admission to hospital yet I have been in twice in the last month.

Funnyfoot · 19/02/2014 23:28

Forgot to mention I am asthmatic.

quaginty · 19/02/2014 23:30

OP posts:
Funnyfoot · 19/02/2014 23:33

Was that aimed at me quaginty?

quaginty · 19/02/2014 23:33

not just you. All the "smoking is good for you" type posts.

Someone tell the NHS, quick!

OP posts:
Smoorikins · 19/02/2014 23:35

I think its aimed at anyone who dares suggest that some asthmatics might find their symptoms relieved by smoking.

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/02/2014 23:36

Who are you to call others names, op?

From what you've demonstrated here you are hardly overflowing with tolerance, compassion or understanding.

Funnyfoot · 19/02/2014 23:36

Get your head out of your arse OP.

I never said smoking is good for you so get your facts right.

Also nobody else said smoking is good for you. These are posts based on experience or things told to them by health professionals.

Smoorikins · 19/02/2014 23:36

quag, I'll give you a tenner if you can find anyone on this thread that said smoking is good for you.

foreverondiet · 19/02/2014 23:38

Well, at least for smoking there are huge taxes, and so the benefit to the government (tax) outweighs the cost (NHS etc). So actually I don't think selfish, but just a bit of a shame they can't priortise their own health.

The same CANNOT be said about obesity. Huge profits for fast food / confectionery etc industry and no tax to cover costs to NHS.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 19/02/2014 23:39

You could say that they are doing the NHS a favour. They'll be dead sooner so no need for ongoing asthma treatment Grin

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/02/2014 23:40

Are you asthmatic, and do you smoke, op?

Do you have any personal experience to bring to this?

Stfu with your nsstiness.

Starballbunny · 19/02/2014 23:45

My DDad smoked because it stopped him getting asthma, hence costing him a fortune and the NHS nothing.

In his case is asthma was strongly linked to anxiety and the nicotine win over the smoke.

Nothing in life OP is ever as clear cut as you would like

Monty27 · 19/02/2014 23:49

Why don't you keep your nose out of other people's lives, it must hurt. Judgey McJudgey.
