AIBU to expect a 'please' from a cashier when they ask me 4 money?

I was in Marks and Spencers yesterday I had some rude cashier asking me to move my basket off the conveyer belt without even saying please.I thought I would let it go even though I was niggled by her barking an order at me and being so rude.I moved the basket and said nothing. When it came to paying the woman she asked for the money without saying 'Please'.I was so fed up with her by now that I pulled her up on it and tore a strip off of her.She subsequently apologised and I thought that would be the last of it.
I went back in this evening and went to another cashier and low and behold the same thing happened there when she asked for the money. There was no 'Please' I thought (ffs) what's going on here? I asked her whether it was Marks and Spencers policy to be so impolite when asking for the money when buying goods? She said no but she was not obliged to say 'please'.

I thought ok then if you want to argue the point lets get a manger involved.Along came a manager and he said to me that he didn't know what all the fuss was about and that the cashiers had done nothing wrong by not saying 'Please' when asking for the money and he said he would not be reprimanding them on it.He told me that by the cashier saying 'thank you' and 'have a nice day' was surfice and please was not needed.

I mean to say what is this world coming to? I was brought up to say 'please' and 'thank you' and i'm not going to stop now and i expect people to say please and thank you to me especially if I am a customer at Marks and Spencers being served by a cashier.

I will be making an official complaint tomorrow to the store manager and head office. Your views please.TYIA

Normally a cashier should say 'That will be x amount please'

Wow. I never even notice, tbh. You're there to pick up shit, pay for it and leave, why do you need to be asked please to pay up.

formerbabe · 21/01/2014 20:51

Count yourself lucky op...the cashier who served me yesterday didn't even say the amount to me...I had to look at the screen!

Life is too short...forget it!

CoffeeTea103 · 21/01/2014 20:51

Yabu and rude. You are paying for something you owe, why do you need to made feel important. They do say something like 'that will be x' , why should they add a please?
How horrible of you to complain to the manager over something so petty.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 21/01/2014 20:51

i'll grow up if you get a grip?

ShakerattlenRoll · 21/01/2014 20:52

I think so, yes, I agree with the manager that other pleasantries will do.

I'll tell you a secret though. I don't tip taxi drivers who don't tell me the price and expect me to read the meter for myself. Blush.

CommunistLegoBloc · 21/01/2014 20:52

Are you taking the piss? You're far more ill-mannered than they were, though I dispute the fact of their 'rudeness' anyway.

Have you nothing else to occupy you?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/01/2014 20:52

Some people are giant wankers aren't they?

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 21/01/2014 20:52

bahahahaha silly fool.

K8Middleton · 21/01/2014 20:53

What teeb said.

JenBehavingBadly · 21/01/2014 20:53

I can't believe you tore a strip off some poor sod on a check out. That's just such a mean thing to do to someone who can't answer back.

OK, so a please would be nice, but seriously you need something else in your life if you get het up over this kind of thing.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 21/01/2014 20:53

(OP's words, not mine please btw - thanks)

Saucia · 21/01/2014 20:53

Why didn’t you call the police and have her arrested on the spot?

Mrmonkey · 21/01/2014 20:53

your calling someone else nasty! Umm I think you need to look to your own behaviour first!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 21/01/2014 20:54

How is your life so bereft of activity that you have time to give this so much thought?

Littlefish · 21/01/2014 20:54

You are being very rude and confrontational on this thread Shaker.

formerbabe · 21/01/2014 20:54

I bet the cashier does a little inner sigh when she sees you!

JenBehavingBadly · 21/01/2014 20:54

'queue'

Just sayin'

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 21/01/2014 20:54

Maybe the cashiers should, but if we banned all the rude customers the shops would be empty!
As other posters have already said, you are NOT doing them a favour by purchasing items that YOU want, you are not giving them the money as a gift. They are giving you the result of a calculation. It would be nice if they said please and thank you, but they are not obliged to.

I tell you what if that cashier owned the shop you can bet your bottom dollar they would say please and thank you.It seems like it's just a reflection of society today.Even on here i can't believe the rudeness and ignorance of smoe of the rude posters on this thread.I rest my case
