Voluptuous FIL sits TOPLESS when we visit :(

AIMU to expect FIL to put a top on during visits. I realise its his home and people can generally do what they like within their own 4 walls.

However I just find I am being increasingly struck dumb and I am unable to meet his gaze or even look at him. He is rather generously proportioned and sits at the head of the table like some buddha.

I have a sense he knows my feelings about this and knows how uncomfortable it makes me feel as several years ago there was a conversation about being half dressed in different situations - eg ... walking down street, in own home, in garden, on beach etc. This was before he took to being half undressed when at home.

DH has no problem with it although he does not do this himself. He also does not feel comfortable broaching the subject with his father.

Perhaps I am turning into a prude in my old age and just need to chillax.

No Diddl fil is not at all fun or sociable - he sits at the head of the table in judgement :( We always feel sad and low after visits due to the loaded comments and statements he makes.

DH obviously has more fear for his father than love for me. Although I know he loves me, its just fear, obligation and guilt that takes precedent when it comes to his father. You would have to know him to understand.

I had already said to DH I wont be going for the time being - I agree his father is definitely passive-aggressive and abuses his power and hurts the ones close to him.

start singing "is my body too moobalicious for you?" (slightly beyonce, slighty not).

that is so revolting. my fil once showed me a scar from his op - it invlved me seeing his ginormous off-white y fronts. repellant.

Whilst you say polly he does it for effect do you think he would cover up if you spoke out and said you where not visiting again unless he covered up that "fine specimen" of a body or would it go over his head,I find it very socially unacceptable to be honest. Can you just refuse to visit him or would it cause problems with your OH ?

Glam he would be most indignant and take the tone "I will do as I please in my own home" ... fair enough I say ... I wont be visiting then !
