Ok. I'll go first (We are a bit skint this year because we have just sold our house so all our £££ is being saved for the deposit on our next home, so we've had to be careful)

We split our shop between two big supermarkets so we can use our reward points/vouchers accumulated through the year.

Total Bill: 124.98
Total vouchers:35.64

Actual cash total: £89.34

This is for all food, snacks, booze, soft drinks, crackers , table cloth etc. For 2 adults, 3dcs under 10. Should last until boxing day.

Is this average/Scrooge/OTT in comparison to yours?

Wish id done mine that cheap! Theres only me and DD (11) and my parents coming for Christmas day, and Ive easily spent £160. My budget weekly for food is usually £45 and the turkey alone cost £60, so not too bad really I suppose. Hmm

UntamedShrew · 23/12/2013 16:29

Blimey well done! Ours is £600 but that includes a party. Even so, I'm very impressed! Only saving was remembering for once to use my £3.52 ocado voucher. I'm crap at this, right?

overthemill · 23/12/2013 16:31

I think you've done brilliantly . I spread mine over several weeks and lots of smaller shops and haven't dared add it all up! Slightly miffed at dis and DH who keep opening cupboards and saying ooh twiglets (eg) and promptly scoffing them!

£300 all in for enough food/drink/accessories to last forever! ( well, until my teenage sons get to it!!) But I use saver stamps so it actually "cost" £75 which is less than my usual weekly shop!

Trills · 23/12/2013 16:35

What makes you feel that this would be an unreasonable request?

Were you brought up to feel that talking about money is not done?

Sparklymommy · 23/12/2013 16:37

We did a big supermarket shop this morning. £195 minus £40 voucher, £155.

Dh is a butcher and gets the turkey for free. Saving us about £70.

His mate runs the veg shop- veg order came to £38, with "mates rates discount" that went down to £20.

I still have fruit to get but I've got a £10 draw prize voucher to use for that.

Got a few bits (pudding, biscuits etc) in m and s a few weeks ago, totalling £40.

This is for nine of us, five adults and four children.

muminthecity · 23/12/2013 16:38

Dsis and I spent £140 in Aldi and an extra £30 or so in Sainsburys. We paid half each, so £85. This includes all food and drink including alcohol, some toiletries/cleaning products and a couple of stocking fillers for DD. It will be enough to feed me, DD, Dsis, and our parents for about 3-4 days. There will be loads of leftovers and we've bought tonnes of treats!

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 23/12/2013 16:38

I've spent about £230, mum has £190.

There's only 6 of us Blush

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 23/12/2013 16:39

Booze alone was £150. Oops

muminthecity · 23/12/2013 16:39

Oh and we bought 2 large chickens instead of turkey and my mum is bringing a ham, which helped to keep the cost down.

MamaBear17 · 23/12/2013 16:40

Ours is the same as yours but we only have one dc and we are having Christmas dinner at my mums! So really just done a weekly shop with a few Christmassy extras.

80sdrummer · 23/12/2013 16:40

Grin Trills. I fear your point has been wasted.

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 16:40

Obv not Trills, I'm a right nosey mare that's all. Its not something I'd ask in RL though so maybe?

We didn't get turkey, we got a ham so its considerably cheaper, BUT I have a smidgeon of guilt that the dc's aren't living it large this yuletide. But such is life if they want a garden.

I hope someone comes along and says I got it all for a fiver. spanieleyes were your savings stamps for supermarket starting with M?

cathpip · 23/12/2013 16:41

We have just spent £250 but with a years worth of savers stamps plus some other vouchers our shop came to £50. Dh now sees that 3/4 savers stamps a week can make a big difference :)

CandyCanesWhipsandChains · 23/12/2013 16:42

£200 in Tesco -£60 Voucher and £5 off turkey voucher.

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 16:43

DH has baked the bread & mince pies but the ingredients were bought in with the xmas stuff.

OP posts:
5Foot5 · 23/12/2013 16:43

Ours is about £450, fuck.

Yup. That is pretty much what ours was I think for food and drink combined. That is for me, DH, DD and the PILs

We did save just over £30 by using the Nectar vouchers we had been saving for weeks.

Oh double fuck - I just realised that doesn't include the turkey which I am collecting tomorrow!!

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 16:44

candy was the £60 with your club card points? I thought our £20 was impressive!

OP posts:
Iggity · 23/12/2013 16:44

Ours was £150 minus £50 voucher at Sainsbury's. To feed four adults and one child. Turkey crown was about £25 and two bottles of cava at £5 each. Not really sure what I spent the rest of the money on.

spanieleyes · 23/12/2013 16:44

gertrudetrain yes, M it is! Can't wait until they start deliveries Grin
I was in at 7 o clock this morning ( along with half the town!) Apparently the mornings are busier than the afternoons just now-Sainsbury's were open at 6!!

D0oinMeCleanin · 23/12/2013 16:45

DH is doing ours tonight/tomorrow. He is planning on spending almost £100 on spirits alone. I only wanted Vodka. He must be buying lots of vodka. He's definitely not wasting precious vodka money on weirdly colored drinks that no-one likes again, is he?

Dunno what he is doing about food. I think he's getting that tomorrow.

He has a budget of around £250 including the £100 he plans on using to buy drinks people have actually heard of.

Guitargirl · 23/12/2013 16:45

I spent £45 in M&S on food and DP spent £50 in Morrisons today but we had £40 in Morrisons vouchers given to us and also a lot of alcohol given to us so actually £55 in total. That is for DP, me and 2 DCs and will last us until 27th with some bits and pieces left over.

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 16:45

sparkly I'm impressed.

OP posts:
gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 16:47

Bloody hell DooinmecleaninDooinmecleanin £100 on spirits!!! I don't think it'll matter what the food tastes like if you neck all that.
