Ok. I'll go first (We are a bit skint this year because we have just sold our house so all our £££ is being saved for the deposit on our next home, so we've had to be careful)

We split our shop between two big supermarkets so we can use our reward points/vouchers accumulated through the year.

Total Bill: 124.98
Total vouchers:35.64

Actual cash total: £89.34

This is for all food, snacks, booze, soft drinks, crackers , table cloth etc. For 2 adults, 3dcs under 10. Should last until boxing day.

Is this average/Scrooge/OTT in comparison to yours?

£8.

We shop at Morrisons so had their £40 loyalty voucher. We had also been collecting savings stamps all year too. So our £98 shop was paid for in vouchers and stamps. We are definitely doing this again next year.

Parsnipcake · 23/12/2013 20:35

There were 43 out if stock items in my Ocado basket, so I cancelled my order, went to Aldi and saved £100 ( on a 300 Ocado shop). We bought a trolley full of food with the leftover money and donated it to the foodbank - everyone's a winner! ( except Ocado. Running out of horseradish and turkey is not good ).

GoldenGytha · 23/12/2013 20:41

Thankyou fatlazymummy

Mumsnetters are always so lovely,

We will have a very quiet, but nice Christmas.

Thanks Thanks

Grotbagstwin · 23/12/2013 20:52

Got a rolled turkey crown from butchers for £28.50, it will feed 15 (we have 7 for lunch) got 2 boxes of veg from thr veg market for £8 and plan on spending £150 on booze and nibbles.

KhunZhoop · 23/12/2013 20:55

£300, but that's including our normal month's groceries, plus all the booze. A LOT of booze. And a £60 rib of beef, we can't be bothered with turkey and there's only two of us.

Joysmum · 23/12/2013 20:58

No idea. All I know is it would have been a lot less if we hadn't been eating it before hand and keep needing to replace it.

cleofatra · 23/12/2013 21:00

You guys are so lucky. Here in Australia, where it is ridiculously expensive, I have bought anti[pasto ingredients, ingredients for a chrostmas coleslaw and some stone fruits and it cost around £170.

bunnymother · 23/12/2013 21:07

About £200 as we are doing roast beef and already have lots of booze. It's just DH and our 3 young DDs who only want to eat pesto pasta [scream]. Good thing DH is the equivalent of a plague of locusts, as it's a big roast of Angus rib of beef. But I think he's up to the job.

toobreathless · 23/12/2013 21:08

Not at home for Xmas but are taking the following to my parents: thank you Italian hamper (£35) homemade mince pies & gingerbread £4?, one bottle each of nice red, white & champagne (£35ish)
So total £75.

Then hosting new year PIL, us, 2 DC. Total £129 including all drinks.

DeckTheHallsWithBoughsOfHorry · 23/12/2013 21:08

Thanks parsnipcake

Spirit of Christmas right there.

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 23/12/2013 21:09

Another £50 spent an hour ago replacing the drink we drank...

TheZeeTeam · 23/12/2013 21:10

Mine was $240 for food. I'm ignoring the alcohol bill as a) I'm not drinking and b) it was more than the food!

Breezy1985 · 23/12/2013 21:35

I spent £88 in asda, forgot the pigs in blankets so went to the coop and spent another £40 Hmm

Am feeding 4 adults and 3 children xmas dinner, out for tea and all day boxing day. Got no booze either!

chickydoo · 23/12/2013 21:48

Main food shop £195
Pick up Turkey tomorrow £55
Pick up special pud £10
Booze... DH buys it, around £50 ( no spirits)
So £310
That is for Christmas Eve for 8 people
Christmas Day for 12
And Boxing Day for 7

kelly14 · 23/12/2013 22:55

0 for me but its cost parents approx 1200 GBP!!! yes shocking but true!!!

500 on booze (v expensive in this country for alcohol)
approx 85 per head for xmas day dinner (this is 4 hour free flowing champers, everyfood imaginable affair at 5 star hotel in dubai)
450 on all over food and picky bits to last the festive period, again all very expensive here.

offloadingthisshit · 23/12/2013 23:14

I've spent about £120 on food for 2 adults and 3 kids for Xmas Eve/Day and Boxing Day and maybe the next day Hmm I bought most of it in Lidl and some bits in Waitrose.

Twighlightsparkle · 23/12/2013 23:19

Was £122 food and drink, bought on Sunday will last till Friday. Had £40 morrisons voucher so came to £82

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 23/12/2013 23:33

Bottle of champers £12
Turkey crown £12
Veg £3 approx?
Bacon £2
Cocktail sausages £2
Breadsticks £1
After 8s £2
Pickles £2
Cheese £0 (had vouchers to use)
Jacobs box of biscuits for cheese £0.01 (Tesco price glitch earlier in the year)
Mince pies £0 (made by DM)
Ham £0 (Massive joint in Tesco should have been 1/2 price but was charged full price, therefore free under their DTD policy Xmas Grin
Crackers £0.50 (bought in Jan sale)
Wine £1.30 (£7.99 bottle, again Tesco price glitch)

There's probably a few things I've missed but it's no doubt less than £45

I have never done it so cheaply, in previous years I've always gone over the top and bought loads of chocolates, cake, puddings etc and always ended up eating the flipping stuff throughout Jan/Feb. So I decided this year I would try and do it as frugally as possible.

There's only me and OH plus 3 year old DS, and we're at DM's on Boxing Day

LowCarbHeaven · 24/12/2013 00:52

I spent £84 but that's just for 2 adults and a toddler. I already had some stuff at home for making pecan our etch so that helped keep cost low. Wow at people spending £600 on a food shop. I don't know if I could spend that much if I tried!

DragonMamma · 24/12/2013 05:59

£165 but we are in a hotel from today until Boxing day with all food provided. That included a bit of beef, ham and 2 bottles of wine but not much else.

The hotel is costing £600 so hardly a massive saving although I'm definitely thinking of it as such.

Skogkat · 24/12/2013 14:15

My mum bought the main course and made a Christmas cake and a Kransekake (which would've cost about £55 in total- 555kr where we live). We spent a further 605kr on everything else for the food, so £60. So our total was £60 for eight people, but the cos of the food was about £115.

WhereDoesPerryKeepHisHat · 24/12/2013 16:37

Bought about £150 worth of food and drinks for the 5 of us and includes lots and lots of chocolate Xmas Grin

Had £24 of sainsburys money off vouchers over the past few weeks so used these to buy the crisps, chocolates and snacky treats. Then got £80 off the main stuff this week as I had 2 morrisons vouchers so overall cost me about £46!

Cheapest Christmas food wise I've ever had.

Gluezilla · 24/12/2013 16:55

About £400 but had saved vouchers throughout the year so only had to pay £100 upfront.
This is for 4 adults 2 teenagers and will keep us going through the next 2-3 weeks with top ups for bread and milk hopefully

Tigerbomb · 24/12/2013 16:57

£197 including a £30 bottle of Gentleman Jack and food till New Years

Had two sets of Morrisons vouchers so £80 knocked off

Did go back to teh supermarket today and spent a further £93 but this included a lot of meat that had been reduced and went in the freezer for January
