Ok. I'll go first (We are a bit skint this year because we have just sold our house so all our £££ is being saved for the deposit on our next home, so we've had to be careful)

We split our shop between two big supermarkets so we can use our reward points/vouchers accumulated through the year.

Total Bill: 124.98
Total vouchers:35.64

Actual cash total: £89.34

This is for all food, snacks, booze, soft drinks, crackers , table cloth etc. For 2 adults, 3dcs under 10. Should last until boxing day.

Is this average/Scrooge/OTT in comparison to yours?

OMG I get to be the thrifty one for once in my life!

I did the shopping on Saturday and including eye-wateringly expensive free-range chicken it came to well over £110. That's for 5 of us.

BUT I had a £7.50 voucher from Sainsburys and about £46 worth of Nectar points so it cost me £58.

I may need to buy a couple of everyday bits before then though.

But still. < preen >

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 17:42

creamy aww, wish I'd have known the m&s deal was on, that sounds great. That's not include stater and pudding is it?

balloon everyone is making me Envy with their nectar points total.

Mist I've got is £50!

OP posts:
fluffyraggies · 23/12/2013 17:43

£13 for the beef joint.

apx £50 on everything else. That's the veg and all the trimmings plus a couple of nice puds, some crisps/nuts/value sausage rolls.

6 to feed on xmas day. No booze. Cant afford it.

Seriously, seriously broke at the mo. Baby due in 4 weeks!

But we've got each other ( boak - i know Grin ) ... and i am so looking forward to my beef dinner!

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 17:44

Plus SIL told me about the £7.50 voucher but I didn't bloody get one. Bet mine & dh's arrive tomorrow we'al spend it on booze.

OP posts:
SuckItAndSee · 23/12/2013 17:45

£155 for a week's shop, although that doesn't include the meat from the butcher, plus I had already got the booze in.

we cashed in £55 in nectar points though.

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 17:45

I've only had one baileys and my typing is shite!

Lizzylou · 23/12/2013 17:50

About £400/450, 11 coming for Christmas day, more family coming just after, lots of v nice wine and cheese.
Split between Tescos and Booths.
I wouldn't mind but I bloody made Christmas cake/pudding last month, and make lots of other stuff.

Lizzylou · 23/12/2013 17:51

Oh and that does include huge beef joint for NYD.

GoldenGytha · 23/12/2013 17:53

Someone very kindly gave me a chicken and a beef joint, so I've spent about about £5 on tatties and the veg for lunch,

No money for any extras or luxuries, but we will be having a lovely lunch of roast beef.

Really looking forward to it.

fairisleknitter · 23/12/2013 17:54

A turkey, stuffing , cranberry sauce and christmas pudding - about £40. We'd be buying everything else anyway.

I feel under-catered when comparing on here but irl it'll be lovely!

Iris445 · 23/12/2013 17:57

£160 in aldi.
Lots of good ingredients, beef joint, ham joint, fabulous cheeses, 4 bottles of red, gin, lots of pale ale, lots of fruit and veg, trolley was overflowing.

This year I didn't buy a lot of treats, it cut a big chunk of money off the bill. I did it for two reasons...guests always bring sweet things and I get fat!

OatcakeCravings · 23/12/2013 17:58

I spent around £120 in Markies on food for Xmas eve, day and Boxing Day. I've been buying nice wine, champers and nibbles over the last 2 months and hiding it! We have a big Hogmanay though which will be about £250 on booze and food and then I'm having a party on the 4th Jan which will be another £250 probably.

magicballs · 23/12/2013 18:00

So our tesco food shop was £200 and I've just collected the Marks and Sparks luxe Christmas dinner pre made which cost £70. We really aren't rolling in it but its once a year and this year I CBA to do everything from scratch

ScaredToBeHonest · 23/12/2013 18:03

There's 6 adults for Christmas Day and I've spent £60 in butcher and £100 at supermarket but had a £10 voucher. This includes 2 bottles of wine, bottle prosecco and also 2 boxes of chocolates as presents from DS. I've previously bought booze totalling around £45.

My sister has bought the pudding and crackers and Mum is buying pigs in blankets, cheese board, pâté and biscuits.

Tailtwister · 23/12/2013 18:04

Surely it depends on how many people you're catering for? We're not hosting this year, but if we were I'd probably expect it to come in at around £200 (feeding 8, inc 2 children). That doesn't include wine though which the PIL usually bring and I'm guessing around £40 for the champagne/prosecco? We sometimes get a present of some smoked salmon or such like which would bring the bill down a bit.

So, £240 for us to cater for Christmas day.

stella69x · 23/12/2013 18:22

£89 in Lidl
£45 in Asda
£22 Iceland
£156 in total, doesn't include turkey as I get one as a Xmas gift/bonus from work. 3 adults, me dp and ds(13) and dp's ds(6).

OneUp · 23/12/2013 18:23

Around £62 for me, fiance and twenty one month old DD. We're away on Boxing Day but it will do up until the 29th, including snacks, although as there is only the three of us we're only having a turkey breast which I think has saved us quite a bit, even though it's from Waitrose (special treat!).

Have made some small savings using clubcard vouchers and vouchers from survey sites to pay for it.

BinkieWoo · 23/12/2013 18:31

Ours came to about £295 for 8 people.

And we paid for it all using nectar points, so ended up spending £0.

Before anyone asks how we did it, we have had a nectar card pretty much since it was introduced but have never redeemed points, plus we have a nectar credit card which we use for petrol and groceries and I'm also a coupon queen when it comes to using double points vouchers etc. We get bonus points monthly for using the credit card.

I am pleased with it but the way I see it is that if we'd shopped in Lidl/Aldi/Asda instead on a weekly basis, we would probably have spent at least £295 less over the time we've been collecting points so it's kind of evened us out I think.

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 18:33

OMFG binkie that is good.

I know it has evened you out but it must have felt good.

OP posts:
BinkieWoo · 23/12/2013 18:37

I must admit it was a big relief - I've just gone back to work after mat leave since Feb so money has been tight this year, especially when payroll cocked up my first "normal" paycheque and underpaid me this month, meaning that without the nectar points, it probably would have been beans on toast for us this year! Blush

fatlazymummy · 23/12/2013 18:39

Spent £48 ,will probably spend another tenner in the co-op tomorrow. That's to see us through till the 27th.
That's for me, my 2 children and an extra adult on christmas day.
We don't drink, so no alcohol. I haven't gone mad, but there's still quite a few treats for us.

TidyDancer · 23/12/2013 18:40

Just added it up and it's about £300 on food, but had about £40 in vouchers so in real terms it was about £260.

Not and compared to what I thought it might be. Included trips to Sainsburys, Tesco and Morrisons.

mumofthemonsters808 · 23/12/2013 18:41

£180 in Sainsburys and £50 in M & S

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/12/2013 18:42

Meat seems to cost so much. I'm a veggie and the three carnivores are having chicken, so that saved us a lot of money by the look of it.

fatlazymummy · 23/12/2013 18:43

Goldengytha I noticed your post here and on another thread. Hope you and your family have a lovely christmas, and things improve for you soon.
