Ok. I'll go first (We are a bit skint this year because we have just sold our house so all our £££ is being saved for the deposit on our next home, so we've had to be careful)

We split our shop between two big supermarkets so we can use our reward points/vouchers accumulated through the year.

Total Bill: 124.98
Total vouchers:35.64

Actual cash total: £89.34

This is for all food, snacks, booze, soft drinks, crackers , table cloth etc. For 2 adults, 3dcs under 10. Should last until boxing day.

Is this average/Scrooge/OTT in comparison to yours?

Drink- £240 (all done in 1 shop)
Meat- £175 (turkey, beef joint and ham joint)
Veg- £60 (local farmers shop)
Random stuff- around £200 Blush

So that's £675 for 9 adults and 1 child (3 years)

Obviously there will be leftovers, christmas is only once a year Grin

gertrudetrain · 23/12/2013 17:04

Ok so far on this thread the total spend us

£6541.00

Highest £700
Lowest £55

Sheesh, maybe I should go into the supermarket business.

I spent around £120 but £70 of that was for booze. I'm going to my mums for Xmas dinner so didn't need a turkey or trimmings.

manicinsomniac · 23/12/2013 17:11

Wow, some scary figures here!

I've only spent about £40 but we're going to extended family so the cost is split.

7 or 8 families spending 40-50 pounds for Christmas day and boxing day. It works out well financially but im dreading it socially. 25 adults and 10 children - ouch!

chanie44 · 23/12/2013 17:12

About £60 - as OH says Xmas dinner is only a roast!!!!

We are having Xmas at home - Me, OH and our preschoolers and so poncey food is wasted on the children, so it's going to be a fairly low key affair.

We normally go to family so barely spend anything. We are visiting both sets of family on Boxing Day and I know my mum has lots of poncey food.

glammanana · 23/12/2013 17:14

we are off to Dds for lunch on the day and between us we have spent about £130.00 on food stuffs and £40.00 on wine and fruit juice just have to collect the fruit to-morrow from my friendly grocer and fill the stocking for the little ones,it would have been cheaper if DS1 wot is a Sainsburys Manager remembered his poor old mum would like some discount this time of year and offer his card for use.!!

raisah · 23/12/2013 17:15

For party catering you are better of going to costco & similar wholesalers to buy large multipacks of food & drinks.

Sainsbury food (including £28 turkey) and drink shop for 5 adults and 4 children - £144.50. Paid £119.50 as we had a £25 off voucher.

Marks and Spencer - stollen £8

We are not big drinkers which reduces the bill greatly.

redcaryellowcar · 23/12/2013 17:17

our big shop cost £150, then a top up shop of £20 and a further £15 today on bread milk etc, (amazing how expensive etc is!!) so a total of apx £185, bless sainsburys though they gave me a 1p off my next shop voucher as their price match showed i had paid a penny more!!

ExcuseTypos · 23/12/2013 17:18

We've spent £250 in Waitrose and about £150 in M and S.

DH has bought all the alcohol, not sure how much that came to.

I'm always feel we spend too much but we've got some lovely tasty things and I can't wait to start eating. Xmas Grin

TopDonkey · 23/12/2013 17:18

Can I just ask how much you think is reasonable for a Christmas food shop for just two adults as I spent £120 for the whole month and DH thinks IABU spending too much.

CandyCanesWhipsandChains · 23/12/2013 17:20

The voucher was £60 off if you spent £110 in the 4 correct weeks and you had to spend atleast £110 to use it.

Emmaistired · 23/12/2013 17:21

OMG I spent £160 - hoiwever we don't eat meat or drink but that includes lots of nice cheese xmas pud etc etc we have a full fridge

MrsChristmasBungle · 23/12/2013 17:22

My bill came to £269 including drink. I asked the check put operator if I could pay some of it with my nectar card, I had no idea how much was on it but I thought every little bit off helps. Turns out I had £67 on it so that was a brilliant discount I wasn't expecting!

kansasmum · 23/12/2013 17:25

£380 in Sainsburys- was over £400 but used Nectar points. Then £70 in village shop on wine ( get 5% discount because Dh and I volunteer in there once a week) and today spent £54.85 in M&S but had £54 in vouchers from M&S credit card scheme so only cost 85p!

That's to feed 8 people 4 adults 3 teens and a 6 yr old! Have menu planned and should last til 5th Jan! There are lots of treats in there like chocs, crisps nuts and biscuits.

Had the grumpiest checkout lady in Sainsburys who said " Gosh are you feeding a small town" - she said it in a really surly tone too! Bah humbug!

Methe · 23/12/2013 17:27

£250 food and alcohol.

9 people Christmas Day,

10 people Boxing Day.

CremeEggThief · 23/12/2013 17:29

Approximately £117, but that will last me and DS (11) to the first weekend after the New Year, apart from bread, milk and fruit and veg.

GogoGobo · 23/12/2013 17:29

£660 split between M and S and Ocado. £260 was booze and £55 turkey but it is excessive Blush

DifferentNow · 23/12/2013 17:31

I have spent the morning in M&S and the afternoon in Asda. I've spent £300+. This is for me, DH, 5 DC and MIL on Xmas Day. This will do us about 3 days. We can afford it but the amount we've spent is making me feel ill.

GogoGobo · 23/12/2013 17:32

excusetypos about the same on food as us then

Creamycoolerwithcream · 23/12/2013 17:33

I just did my shop and spent £136 at M&S and then got a Waitrose delivery for £142.

Foxeym · 23/12/2013 17:35

Spent £150 in Asda on food and drink for 2 adults and 3DCs Xmas day and 3 adults and 5DCs Boxing Day.

bishboschone · 23/12/2013 17:35

Mine was £100 and in feeding 8 .. I was well chuffed with myself . Especially as turkey was £40.

Creamycoolerwithcream · 23/12/2013 17:35

Forgot to say I got the £60 M&S Christmas dinner bundle deal which includes everything for the meal with a £40 turkey and a voucher for a bottle of Cava. I thought that was a good deal.
