Fucking bastarding Minecraft

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 20/12/2013 20:21

DS1 has just discovered it. So DS2 wants to play. And now fucking DH is playing 'so he can help the kids' - yeah, right. It has been the sole topic of conversation for a week, and now I am chilling out with wine and MN and the bastarding thing is going in the background. Seriously, you're 42. Fuck off.

OP posts:

Thanks for the pixelmon link - DD and DS are playing toigether nicely for the first time in weeks!!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 17/01/2014 21:07

Nettletea - I have a DS who is transfixed by mine craft and we were talking over tea before Christmas about how mine craft even features on Mumsnet. I mentioned there was a mumsnetter whose son was building her something in MC for Christmas and my DCs were enchanted by the idea. So they keep asking me whether I know if it happened and what it was. So do you mind me asking? Hope it was lovely!

chateauferret · 17/01/2014 22:01

YABU. It could be worse; round here Furby games are the order of the day.

SomethingkindaOod · 17/01/2014 22:08

Minecraft pisses me off immensely because I can't use the damn xbox controller! I somehow develop 15 thumbs and can't control anything and then DS laughs at me. Am hoping the PC version is easier.
Icupquake is probably the least annoying one on YouTube from what I hear from the DC's bedrooms, Syndicate is a genius (and a lovely bloke irl) but far too hyper and Stampy's voice gets on my nerves.

NettleTea · 17/01/2014 23:13

Yes my DS DID make us minecraft presents. He built DD a hunger games map and he built me a really high tech semi underground house which was built into the side of a hill with a grass roof and huge expansive glass fronted bit. He had put bedrooms at the back so it was darker for sleep, and a huge table in the kitchen. And an enchanting table too. It even had decking out the front. So kind!!
Now he has Xbox live, so has been playing online.

CanadianJohn · 18/01/2014 03:19

I wish I hadn't opened this thread.

I know very little of the modern world of electronic games , and I thought that Minecraft was a game about WWII mine-laying ships and mine-sweepers.

Oh dear. I'm glad I'm old, and won't live long enough to see what the world will become.

I wish I hadn't opened this thread. Did I say that already?

JakeBullet · 18/01/2014 05:23

My DS wants to be Stampylongnose! I have pointed out that this is not a valid career choice but he just looked at me.Hmm

He discovered somewhere that Stampy lives or lived in a town called Emsworth in Hampshire. He wants me to drive down there so he cam "try and spot Stampy's house". Not a prayer mate!

NettleTea · 19/01/2014 11:31

hahaha thats so funny Jake, I expect DD and DS would like me to do that too. I wonder how many kids spend their days doing such nonsense

Megrim · 19/01/2014 11:39

My DS has built an entire airport with cargo and passenger planes, terminals, runways, radar tower, trucks etc.

All I have to do now is wean him off blerdy Stampy fuckwit.

StrawberryTot · 19/01/2014 11:43

I'm afraid we to are a Minecraft family, we spend time together building 'Mega World' do that one day DD (7) and DS (5) can invite Stampy and Squid to explore.

DD and DS also spend plenty of time cuddled up together watching YouTube videos Grin

KitchenDiscoDancer · 19/01/2014 11:48

My DS is obsessed and will talk at me (generally while on a dog walk) for over an hour, without hesitation or repitition on the wonders of Minecraft. I just smile and nod and say the occasional 'really, wow'. He has now asked me to make a Minecraft birthday cake - sigh....

Orangeanddemons · 19/01/2014 11:49

This is my version of hell:

Dd on Minecraft. Too loud
Dmil deaf, turns up tv
Dd turns up Minecraft
Dmil turns up tv
Dd turns up Minecraft
......ad nauseum....

I run away screaming

Chocotrekkie · 19/01/2014 11:52

Is it just me who would have loved to be a fly on the wall at stampy's Christmas.

Old great uncle - "why don't you get a real job"
Stampy - "I make enough money putting videos of computer games on the Internet"
Great uncle - "don't be ridiculous - how can that be a real job"

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 19/01/2014 11:54

Oh yes, but come on. Chickens which catch fire vs detailed prostitution scenes, racist/homophobic/sexist language, multitudes of guns, detailed graphics of shooting people at close range, drugs... I know which game I'd rather my DC play, and I know what kind of thing I would have found hilarious in the playground - some pixelated chickens on fire are hilarious when you're under 14.

We play it too. DS plays it most, DP second, me last, but we have fun. Survival mode can be peaceful too and just about making your own stuff from scratch, I find the monsters get in the way so I turn them off too.

It teaches patience (in survival), coding if they get into that, circuitry - someone built a working computer using the electronic circuit elements present in minecraft. You can download challenge maps too which are like any kind of logic puzzle or some teach about circuits etc as well. And obviously the creativity.

Wherediparkmybroom · 19/01/2014 11:55

I bought good headphones, now ds sings his own commentary, loudly!

Wherediparkmybroom · 19/01/2014 11:58

Shit I live 5 mile from emsworth! Who wants me to go and sing commentary at stampy?

bongobaby · 19/01/2014 12:02

My ds loves minecraft and is obsessed with it. Ds is 11 and now has a headset with built in microphone on it into his Xbox controller so he can talk to his friends also on minecraft so they build together. Think it's called a minecraft party where everyone gets together on it.
When he's not on it he watches bloody stampy dude on his phone.

soaccidentprone · 19/01/2014 12:11

Ds2 is obsessed with Minecraft. He even makes videos and uploads them to Youtube.

He wanted to go to the Minecraft expo in Telford last year and meet Captain Sparkles. But he couldn't find anyone to take him Hmm

But he is only allowed 2 hrs screen time a day (plus any for homework). He also now loves playing Pokemon X.

He also does his own programming on Scratch, so we are happy to let him. But as I said, his screen time is limited, and he does have a headset so we don't have to listen to Minecraft (though we do have to listen to his recording which always make me laugh and he gets really cross - [bad mum] Blush)

Megrim · 19/01/2014 14:32

DS went to a birthday party yesterday where the birthday cake featured some Minecraft related gubbins. He was cuffed to get the bit with creepers on it (apparently, just looked like green go by the time it got unwrapped).

I, too, do the nod-and-smile thing when DS is talking about Minecraft at me.

Ev1lEdna · 20/01/2014 10:45

My sons love it and DH sometimes plays with them on multiplayer - I think it is lovely when he does and the boys get so excited.

To all those complaining about the noise - top tip - Santa bought gaming headsets to our house this year. Decreases the noise (doesn't completely eradicate, sadly.)

NettleTea · 20/01/2014 12:08

Mine keep asking to go to MineCon, but I think its in America. They love Captain Sparkles too. I dont mind it. DS is just getting into coding and has a raspberry Pi, so we will be downloading the pi version of minecraft once Ive worked out how to do it.
he is also talking to other people who are as obsessed, and beginning to negotiate socially in a safer environment than he has experienced in real life, as he has the odd problem there.

walterwhiteswife · 20/01/2014 14:28

I hate stampy with a passion! !

mypussyiscalledCaramel · 20/01/2014 14:50

Both my boys are into Minecraft. They have now got DS1's girlfriend into it aswell.

The PC is in the dining room and they use headphones. My local Lidl has had some headphones that you can link up.

I don't go anywhere near it because I know that I would spend my time sorting stuff out for DS2. 'Ask your brother' is usually my reply.

FarmerSueTickle · 20/01/2014 14:53

"just wait until he discovers Stampy"

Arrggh! 7 yr old DS loves to watch Stampylongnose on YouTube. What A BLOODY IRRITATING VOICE AND LAUGH THAT MAN HAS!

SeptemberFlowers · 20/01/2014 14:58

I'm wondering if I am in another world, none of my dc's have ever mentioned minecraft or stampy Hmm

I'm assuming this is a good thing judging from some of the comments on here Grin
