Fucking bastarding Minecraft

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 20/12/2013 20:21

DS1 has just discovered it. So DS2 wants to play. And now fucking DH is playing 'so he can help the kids' - yeah, right. It has been the sole topic of conversation for a week, and now I am chilling out with wine and MN and the bastarding thing is going in the background. Seriously, you're 42. Fuck off.

OP posts:
AChristmassyJerseySpud · 21/12/2013 12:13

DH plays it

DD1 loves it. She's 6. Sigh

Jaxx · 21/12/2013 12:14

Those who have mentioned Pokemon, probably haven't seen Pixelmon, the Pokemon mod for minecraft

What is even worse is your little darlings can play Pixelmon alongside the likes of Stampy, Squid and Amylee on the NF Family Foundation Server.

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 21/12/2013 12:27

I don't understand grown ups that are into playing games.
My Dbro plays them once the DC and his DP have gone to bed, he plays into the early hours. Playing.
Weird Confused
My DDs love Minecraft too. I don't understand that either. They are making things out of square blocks. So it's basically like lego but a digital version? Whatever it is, sure looks like a boring game!

NynaevesSister · 21/12/2013 14:08

Someone asked - Stampy aka Stampy Longnose aka Stampy Longhead has an exceptionally popular Minecraft channel on You Tube. It is what is sounds like. Videos oh him playing Minecraft and narrating what he does. His voice sounds EXACTLY like Jimmy Carr including that awful laugh when you breathe in. But A really upbeat, relentlessly jolly Jimmy Carr. Like someone mated him with Noel Edmonds and this is the result.

BUT

I have gone from wanting to kill him slowly to loving him to bits. He is positive, he is a laugh, he is upbeat, and HE DOESN'T SWEAR. With all the other crap out there that son could be watching for hours on end, this is much better. Really Stampy is not a bad role model.

My son and his friend play Stampy, Squid et al in the playground. How times have changed.

Weird.^

I love playing games, doesn't matter if it's on a screen, a board game, a quiz or running around after some kind of ball. Playing is great, what's weird about that?

NettleTea · 21/12/2013 18:07

I too have grown to love Stampy

TalkinPeace · 21/12/2013 18:12

I got DS one of these from the USA
www.jinx.com/p/minecraft_creeper_premium_zip_up_youth_hoodie.html
six months before you could get them in the UK

he was SO made up when we walked around Brighton and every other boy looked jealous Xmas Grin

OP
just be pleased they are not playing GTA together.

MrsSippie · 21/12/2013 18:16

DD equally obsessed. Apparently Stampy lives in our town Hmm So, I have asked him to say Happy Birthday to dd on xmas eve, but. also sadly, not had a response yet :(

ILoveRacnoss · 21/12/2013 18:18

Such a relief to find that I'm not the only one with a Minecraft-obsessed DS! He's more of a Ballistic Squid fan. "Helloooooooo!!! And WELcome to ..." Arrrgggghhh!!!!

He's made a huge statue of me in his world, 'tis very cute :-)

bzoo · 21/12/2013 18:23

DS and I have been playing for a couple of years now. Firstly on xbox the PC. He runs servers. Shops - builds fantastic models and the imagination he has for this is something I haven't seen with him with RL toys.

I love to mine and mine and mine.... I give him whatever I collect and he creates with it! The only problem is I often get lost!

PacificDingbat · 21/12/2013 19:08

Mine seem to be obsessed with SkydoesMincraft on YouTube.

Did Stampy not get in to trouble or something recently? His one incarnation disappeared? Not sure what happened exactly and I don't really care.
Yes, I am a Bad Mother

enderwoman · 21/12/2013 19:21

I am happy to encourage Minecraft when other children are dabbling in inappropriate games like GTA. We play as a family on Pocket Edition and PS3.

PacificDingbat · 21/12/2013 19:31

Ah, well, re GTA, I have already stated that it will not come over the threshold of the house I live in.
What they play outside the house when they are older I cannot (and don't want to) control. But in my house there will be no necrophilia and raping for entertainment.
I have a very serious sense of humour failure over GTA.

Mariposa70 · 21/12/2013 20:13

I am intrigued, does it cost money? Once you have paid for the game obviously. Is it like candy crush where they try to get you to buy stuff to carry on?

TheNightIsDark · 21/12/2013 20:15

Would 4.9 year old DS be ok with mincecraft?

Do you buy it in a shop or is it a download?

Not that I'm twitching or anything.

MrsMeow · 21/12/2013 20:25

You can buy it as a download (google Minecraft) and I saw a gift card in Sainsburys the other day which would be fab pressie for a young one, I'd have got it for DS if we hadn't already bought it! It costs £17ish (download or card) and according to DS is worth every penny :)

TheNightIsDark · 21/12/2013 20:28

Ooh I could put it on the kindle for him. He's obsessed with inventing and building (and computers!) so may grow into this.

Millenniumbug1 · 21/12/2013 20:30

I made my DS a creeper Birthday Cake, but I didn't get an evening to Mnet with a glass of wine......I'm doing that now Xmas Wink

Utterly · 21/12/2013 20:38

Tell me about it!

TalkinPeace · 21/12/2013 20:53

mariposa
Minecraft is one of the few modern games that does not spend its whole time trying to get more money from kids (FIFA being the worst offender)

DS builds towns and houses
DH builds weird landscapes

not my thing but at least its peaceful

PacificDingbat · 21/12/2013 20:57

It is peaceful as long as you play in 'creative' mode and not 'survival' (which involved zombies and killing them).

My DS4(3.8) is v fond of mining on MC and all the animals. He is aided and abetted by his older brothers though Hmm

PacificDingbat · 21/12/2013 20:59

Oh, yes, sorry, it does not cost money beyond the purchase price. Unless you buy MN t-shirts and calendars and soft-toy zombies Blush

DisappointedHorse · 21/12/2013 21:02

My DC are also obsessed with Minecraft, they're 10 and 7. When they're not playing it, they're watching Stampy, Ballistic Squid and Minecraft Crew Videos, talking about it, evading the guides and annuals.

We installed Pixelmon for DC2's birthday, just to bring the Pokemon obsession further into the equation too.

Fools to ourselves.

pinkoneblueone · 21/12/2013 21:06

All my 9 year old has gone on about for weeks is minecraft and hes only got a book of it atm till santa brings the xbox game (what did i do???) my head is already burst with constant talk of it....aghhhhhhh

BakeOLiteGirl · 21/12/2013 21:07
