to think it is totally reasonable for cat owners not to pick up poo

I mean how can they?

I have 2 cats and now 1 puppy. I watch my puppy when she is out and know where she is, I can see if she is pooing. If she disappears under a bush I check (with my sense of smell) and pick up if necessary. I carry poo bags everywhere.

However, my cats come and go as they please. When they were kittens I had a litter tray that they used, but as they started to go outside with a cat flap, they stopped using the litter tray.

My (ex) neighbour asked me to come and pick up after my cats, but as there are lots and lots of cats in the area, there was no knowing that it was my cats.

I am not a bad pet owner. But I think it is unreasonable to expect cat owners to have the same poo pick up responsibility as dog owners.

I did actually think of making a cat poo pie for my lovely old Lurcher's 17th birthday. After all, it was his absolutely favourite thing.

Erm I don't really know much about cats, can hey really kill live stock!? I'm going to treat the ones I see with even more respect now Grin

Heartbrokenmum73 · 05/12/2013 13:36

2Tinselly - yes, they hire hitmen to do it!

Be afraid, be very afraid.

youretoastmildred · 05/12/2013 13:51

Are all the people on this thread who think shooting animals through the head is sick, vegetarian? I would think that is pretty painless compared to what happens in some abbatoirs.

D0oinMeCleanin · 05/12/2013 13:53

They train them up from kittens T'is disgusting really, but I suppose at least the hitcats have jobs, it's more than most of the freeloading felines manage.

2Tinsellytocare · 05/12/2013 13:54

Oh do you eat the cats as well then

D0oinMeCleanin · 05/12/2013 13:57

I have no issue with people dispatching wildlife humanely through necessity, I do have issue with people taking pleasure from it and I do have issue with people thinking it's okay to kill, harm or steal someone's family pet.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 05/12/2013 13:58

I don't eat cats - that would be disgusting.

Cat shit, on the other hand, is delicious on toast - and my cats are trained to just wipe it straight on there Grin

Canidae · 05/12/2013 14:26

I haven't been back for a while, it has taken me 13 hours to clean up the cat shit from my garden. Would have taken longer if the local blind children didn't help me. They send them out in teams from the Kidz Blinded By Katz support groups.

Had to take another look - it's official mumsnetters are mad! Xmas Grin

How did I miss cat shit thread? There should have been a klaxon or something.

Realistically we're not going to get cat owners to come round and clear up.

If you have an 'outside' cat you should still have a litter tray, otherwise you're just saying "fuck you neighbours, your garden is a tiller for my cats".

leonardofquirm · 06/12/2013 00:10

A toilet. Not a tiller.

The above especially applies in built up areas with high cat density and crying people with gardens full of shit.

D0oinMeCleanin · 06/12/2013 00:17

We have no gardens round here, just paved yards and a scruffy worn down park Sad

I want a garden so I can moan about cat poo. I feel all left out Sad There's hardly any dog shit in our park either and I've only ever been jumped on by a strange dog once and the owner didn't even have the courtesy to utter "she's only playing" he just muttered "Sorry, love" and called his dog away. I feel deprived

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2013 07:22

No cat poo on pristine lawns round here either. And judging by all the dog walkers I see carrying poo about there's no dog poo either.

BUT someone has a horrible habit of bagging the dog poo then hanging it on a tree. Pooey baubles. Confused

I walk a lot and get continually pounced on by dogs. Only once did one draw blood though.....

thebody · 06/12/2013 08:49

sparkling I have seen dog poo baubles on a tree overhanging a mother and baby car space!!

I Suspect it to be the work of cats!!

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2013 09:32

Eww pooey baubles the body. Do you think it's a regional thing? Shock

Toadinthehole · 07/12/2013 03:44

It depends on the jurisdiction, but I think you will generally find that while inflicting unnecessary suffering on animals is illegal (and criminal), killing them is obviously not, otherwise all abbatoirs would be illegal.

Anyone who has an issue with the instant killing of a feral cat that predates endangered wildlife ought to harden up or become a vegan.

Theodorous · 07/12/2013 09:34

My huge Maine Coon did a very big dump in the bath yesterday (why but why??) went to get cleaning stuff and came back to find little scrappy dog just finishing it off. Thinking of renting her out, no shit in our garden. Please note that she is in disgrace and not allowed on beds, sofas or anywhere else nice for a week. No renamed shit for breath by charming child
