No, I wasn't.

It was so crassly manipulative, Walt ok then oh dear bad stuff happens to Walt because of the meth. Up down up down. Because METH is Bad people.

And he is so so vile in his white underpants. WHY did we have to keep seeing him in his pants?

A lot of people don't seem to like it because they don't like the characters - you don't have to like the characters! Ever heard of an anti-hero?

HalleLouja · 28/11/2013 11:49

House of Cards is amazing. I think the second series is coming on in January too. Robyn Wright was fabulous as was Kevin Spacey. Not completely believable but acting was mesmerising.

noddyholder · 28/11/2013 11:53

Robin Wright was amazing and her clothes and whole look were stunning

BunnyLebowski · 28/11/2013 12:02

Right I've just sat down to watch Ep 1 of House of Cards!

It better be good you lot! Grin

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 28/11/2013 12:04

I liked the first 8 or so episodes.

It was interesting if uncomfortable viewing.

It always left us a bit depressed, a BrBa night would deco be a no sex night too.

We replaced it with the wire, which has more humour and humanity. Nail biting and gritty at times, but it does not leave us too depressed! And also….oooooooo Idris Elba in the Wire. OMG (fans self)

Crowler · 28/11/2013 12:09

Robin Wright was rocking Victoria Beckham dresses in House of Cards.

BlueCushion · 28/11/2013 12:13

If you like The Wire then try The Shield, very similar and good.

spacegirl81 · 28/11/2013 12:16

YABU.

Crowler · 28/11/2013 12:17

The Shield was amazing.

I think it's possible that I watch too much TV, there's not been a box set mentioned here that I've missed apart from The Wire & Walking Dead. I can't get into the Wire.

BunnyLebowski · 28/11/2013 12:18

YY to The Shield Blue!!

I watched all of that in record time. Loved it.

I watch waaaay too much telly Blush .

BunnyLebowski · 28/11/2013 12:18

Ha Crowler! Grin

BlueCushion · 28/11/2013 12:21

The best ever series (and the first of it's type) is Oz. Pre warning it is very brutal, but you really get to know the characters and it is fantastic.

Another brilliant series is Californication. Pure genius.

diddl · 28/11/2013 12:21

I couldn't get into Mad Men either.

What are The Wire & Boardwalk Empire about?

I loved House of Cards-not seen the USA one.

Crowler · 28/11/2013 12:22

Bunny, you've got nothing to worry about until you start watching the Real Housewives

Crowler · 28/11/2013 12:24

I thought Californication jumped the shark around season 4.

DuckToWater · 28/11/2013 12:43

Hear hear re Mad Men - I didn't even last one episode.

A lot of people don't seem to like it because they don't like the characters - you don't have to like the characters! Ever heard of an anti-hero?

You don't have to like the characters but at least you have to engage with them or empathise with some of them on some level. Quite often I find myself thinking in a Hollywood film or US drama series "I don't care what happens to any of these people" so I switch off.

I just find a lot of US shows (and it happens over here too but to a lesser extent) are too glamorous. It's like watching a moving fashion magazine, and leaves me with the same negative feeling as after picking one up in the hairdressers, and a subconscious desire to buy more expensive face creme. People are airbrushed, skinny, botoxed to the nines, and that's before you even consider the women...

They are also mostly very very commercial as they have to sell the show to advertisers. Some are literally a walking commercial with all the product placement, and if there isn't that I find them manipulative and negative.

noddyholder · 28/11/2013 12:47

Mad Men was famed for its product placement.

DuckToWater · 28/11/2013 12:49

I'm not one of those people who worries so much about creeping Americanisation in language etc, but I guess (deliberate use) I'm not that enamoured of US/North American contemporary culture (or in some cases historical) and would rather watch drama set in the UK, Europe, or just about anywhere that isn't the US.

randomAXEofkindness · 28/11/2013 13:01

YADBU, BB was ace-arooni.

BunnyLebowski · 28/11/2013 15:36

LOVING House of Cards!!

Although I keep snorting with laughter every time Kev breaks the 4th wall. He's a hammy get isn't he?

Have to wait for DP to get home to watch more but will definitely carry on with this one. Thanks for the tip folks Smile

Crowler · 28/11/2013 16:18

I love House of Cards too but have no idea what the 4th wall is.

I luuuurve their house, it inspired me to shift to more "grown up" decor.

BunnyLebowski · 28/11/2013 16:20

When he talks to the audience Crowler. It makes me crack up Grin .

Their house is gorgeous and Robyn Wright is just beautiful. Loving Kate Mara's journalist character as well.

noddyholder · 28/11/2013 16:20

It is a fantastic show. I also love the house and her hair!(shallow)

Crowler · 28/11/2013 16:32

I hate that he talks to the TV. SJP did this in the first season of SATC (too much tv, sigh).

I love Kate Mara. She's such a cutie-pie.

Love the house. It's so grown up. No chalk-board paint or kids' artwork in sight (this passes for decor at the Crowler house).
