was this woman bu to complain about my husband?

My husband drives a van for work. Driving to work in the morning traffic and the car in front of him slowed down as the car in front of her was turning off left, the woman then waited to let another car pull out of the junction.

My husband beeped his horn at her and shook his head when she looked in her mirror at him.

When he got into work, later on that day the company had received a complaint about him - the woman had noted his licence plate and company name and sent them an email.

He now has a mark on his employment record.

Your husband was being an arse and deserved to be reported.

To be honest I'd be pissed off if I got pipped at because I'd had the decency to let someone out in front of me. It seems pretty rude of your husband to beep at her and show annoyance. This woman obviously felt the same and I don't think it was unreasonable to complain. If your husband is in a works van he is representing a company and beeping a horn at a good deed and slowing down seems pretty unreasonable.

FunkyBoldRibena · 16/11/2013 15:35

What business is it of your husband's who she lets in and out of a road?

No, she wasn't BU. Your husband was.

thebody · 16/11/2013 15:36

I have read your post twice and can't understand why your husband either beeped his horn or shook his head?

she was driving sensibly and with courtesy and your dh wasn't.

good for her reporting him, I would have wound down the window and told him to fuck off.

Floggingmolly · 16/11/2013 15:36

If there were more marks going in employment records for this kind of arseholery on the roads, we'd all get where we're going far more pleasantly.
Good on her for reporting him.

ChristmasPomBear · 16/11/2013 15:36

Your DH was BU

From the highway code;

The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn
while stationary on the road
when driving in a built up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

I presume your DH was both stationary and aggressive?

wimblehorse · 16/11/2013 15:36

Nope, she wasn't BU. He was. As they were already slowing down, it was only courteous to let the car out. Has he never been glad when a driver slows to let him out of a junction?

ZillionChocolate · 16/11/2013 15:37

Your husband was being rude. He made his company look bad.

AuntieStella · 16/11/2013 15:37

If your DH was driving so close that he felt an audible warning was required (which seems pretty muddled to me tbh) the perhaps he is not suited to a driving job (or at least needs additional training before continuing)

fieldfare · 16/11/2013 15:37

She wasn't unreasonable at all. Your husband was rude.

lunar1 · 16/11/2013 15:37

She did the right thing.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/11/2013 15:38

So your husband is living up to the white van man reputation.

TidyDancer · 16/11/2013 15:38

Your DH was being everything I hate about some drivers. Impatient and behave like they are the most important person on the road.

Hopefully this will make him think more and act like a reasonable person in the future.

SauvignonBlanche · 16/11/2013 15:39

Your DH WBVU and deserved to be reported.

tobiasfunke · 16/11/2013 15:39

I agree your Dh was being an arse. Someone did the same to me last week except the car I let through had the right of way and the bugger behind me still beeped and gave me the finger.

However I wouldn't actually phone up their work and report them unless they had done something dangerous. That seems a tad excessive.

WorraLiberty · 16/11/2013 15:39

Good, well perhaps he'll learn to stop being a twat then OP?

Honestly, what is it with people who lose their manners as soon as they sit in the driver's seat?

Had she held the door open in a shop for someone...and your DH had to wait a few seconds for that person to come out...would he have tutted and fuffed at her?

If the answer is no, then what gives him the right to be an arse just because he's driving?

FredFredGeorge · 16/11/2013 15:39

Yep, she was perfectly justified, your DH does not appear to be qualified to drive a van for a living.

Perhaps suggest retraining - either in driving (an advanced motoring course perhaps) or in something more suitable. It's not an appropriate use of the horn.

BabyMummy29 · 16/11/2013 15:39

Why was he beeping his horn at her anyway? All she was doing was being courteous to another road user.

LEMisafucker · 16/11/2013 15:39

You are only supposed to sound your horn as a warning. He was being intimidating and an arse. I would have done the same. If hevworked for me he be on a warning. My dp drives a van. Idiots like your dh give van drivers a bad name
