My husband drives a van for work. Driving to work in the morning traffic and the car in front of him slowed down as the car in front of her was turning off left, the woman then waited to let another car pull out of the junction.

My husband beeped his horn at her and shook his head when she looked in her mirror at him.

When he got into work, later on that day the company had received a complaint about him - the woman had noted his licence plate and company name and sent them an email.

He now has a mark on his employment record.

Is he very indignant about this. Blaming "wimmen" for noticing his lack of courtesy?

I hate impatient male drivers. I hate when they do that come on come on come on gesture with their hand as wel. Really drives me nuts. LIke, buddy, I'm walking where I'm entitled to walk and I'm not elderly, I'm actually walking quickly and you're 'cummmoning me' Hmm

YHWBU

JudyJudgypants · 16/11/2013 15:41

Good for her, hope he learns to behave.

ilovesooty · 16/11/2013 15:41

I'm glad she reported him and his company have taken the complaint seriously. If more people did the same the likes of your husband might use the road properly.

WhereIsMyHat · 16/11/2013 15:42

Good for her, if more people reported drivers like this our roads would be much nicer places.

Chivetalking · 16/11/2013 15:42

Had to read that twice to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Of course she wasn't unreasonable. Your husband was being an arse.

I'm surprised you've had to ask.

bzoo · 16/11/2013 15:42

You shouldn't stop on a major road to allow traffic from a minor road to join. If she stopped that's daft but slowing down is usually courteous. I hope she checked her rear view before making the decision.

FredFredGeorge · 16/11/2013 15:43

tobiasfunke people who are that impatient tend to be the ones who are dangerous - if it was my companies insurance that would go through the roof after their accidents I'd want to hear complaints!

wingsofgildedsilver · 16/11/2013 15:43

No he wasn't driving too close or had to brake suddenly. The person pulling out the junction was quite hesitant and he was beeping his horn to get her to hurry up as she was going to hold up traffic behind her.

Mumpiring why are you making this a sexist issue? Confused

"Is he very indignant about this. Blaming "wimmen" for noticing his lack of courtesy?"

Perhaps he's an arse to all polite drivers?

But I have to laugh at you saying you hate 'impatient male drivers'. So impatient female drivers are just fine, are they? Grin

ilovesooty · 16/11/2013 15:44

The horn is not there to "encourage" people to hurry up.

wingsofgildedsilver · 16/11/2013 15:44

You shouldn't stop on a major road to allow traffic from a minor road to join.

Made my point better than I did.

If he acts that way when representing his company, he fully deserves to have a mark on his record.

ilovesooty · 16/11/2013 15:45

I don't think it's a sexist issue either. Drivers like the OP's husband are arses whatever their gender.

Pooka · 16/11/2013 15:45

Who made him king of the road?

So what if she was hesitant. Better hesitant than gung ho. I always try and let people out where appropriate and hope that what goes around comes around.

WorraLiberty · 16/11/2013 15:45

The person pulling out the junction was quite hesitant and he was beeping his horn to get her to hurry up as she was going to hold up traffic behind her.

Was he carrying a donated kidney in the boot of his car?

itscockyfoxagain · 16/11/2013 15:46

The horn is not for getting people to hurry up, in fact I would probably have let another driver out just because he was so rude.
In short she did the right thing your husband was in the the wrong.

coppertop · 16/11/2013 15:46

x-posted.

You don't use the horn to tell people to hurry up!

SauvignonBlanche · 16/11/2013 15:46

What a great tactic! Hmm

It's always the van drivers. Always always always the van drivers. Is the van white? I bet it is. Glad he was pulled up. Someone, somewhere has to draw a line about this sort of behaviour on the roads.

Pooka · 16/11/2013 15:48

By letting out, I mean slowing where appropriate.

In any case using your horn to 'educate' other road users when you're in a marked van is rude and could be construed as aggressive.

wingsofgildedsilver · 16/11/2013 15:48

Well hurry up/ make her aware of the situation.

The woman was not hesitant, the car pulling out of the junction was hesitant.

SauvignonBlanche · 16/11/2013 15:48

LOL @ WorraLiberty, if that was the case then of course he we entirely justified in his actions. Grin

ConfusedPixie · 16/11/2013 15:49

He was. I report people in work vans if they are driving like arses. Maybe he'll think next time about being a twat behind the wheel.
