seriously, my life is pretty boring but the day I get all worked up and teery over a sodding sainsburys/tesco/john lewis advert is the day I stick my head in the oven.

maybe its just mumsnet...I mean the john lewis advert made it into discussion of the day, can't see the aldi/lidl adverts will get the same reaction here....

Who pissed in your own brand cornflakes?

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 13/11/2013 20:13

Aww, we need all the excitement we can get!
No different to getting excited about was corrie, aibu or the footy.

Disclaimer: I'm not excited about any ads.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/11/2013 20:14

And who says we're all women?

FanFuckingTastic · 13/11/2013 20:14

I'm not very grown up I'm afraid.

NewtRipley · 13/11/2013 20:14

it's teary, and it's horses for courses

DaleyBump · 13/11/2013 20:16

YABU. Christmas is an exciting time for some of us.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 13/11/2013 20:16

I haven't seen these ads but read about them on FB. People getting teary over them.

EdithWeston · 13/11/2013 20:19

YABU to start a Christmas thread in a general forum before the start of Advent.

And YABU to expect every thread to be serious and worthy.

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 13/11/2013 20:22

It is an interesting phenomena though isn't it.

We have big business trying to get us to spend our money with them and we love it. Are we being manipulated or something else...

ohmymimi · 13/11/2013 20:24

Totally agree, ssd. This guff is solely designed to pick our pockets to the max. I've got heartstrings of steel where this Xmas tosh is concerned. It also now sits rather uncomfortably alongside the reports from the Phillipines. I got off the Xmas gift merry-go-round a while back.

scratchandsniff · 13/11/2013 20:25

I believe you when you say your life is pretty boring.

ouryve · 13/11/2013 20:25

I don't think manipulation is the word. These adverts never influence mt to buy more. They do make me less likely to buy, though - like ASDA, last year.

Strumpetron · 13/11/2013 20:25

Sorry I still have some happy emotions left Hmm

anonacfr · 13/11/2013 20:25

Fuck off it's Christmas.

LocalEditorCroydon · 13/11/2013 20:26

Totally agree with OP. I just don't get why these adverts produce such a response.

Tee2072 · 13/11/2013 20:27

You're assuming we're all grown women. And give a fuck what you think.

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 13/11/2013 20:28

But it's not Christmas it's weds 13th nov.

Since when did ads mean Christmas? It's only been the last - what- five years or so.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 13/11/2013 20:28

bah humbug

LaBuveuse · 13/11/2013 20:29

I cried at the John Lewis one. I never POSTED or anything about it though.

VerySmallSqueak · 13/11/2013 20:29

I haven't seen any.

I record anything I want to watch and FF through the adverts.

Ha.Two fingers to consumerism.

ssd · 13/11/2013 20:30

its all just designed to sell us more shite than we'll ever need but its seen as something heart warming and lovely

TeeManyMartoonis · 13/11/2013 20:30

YABU

It's Christmas. If you can't get excited about it then it is just a busy, expensive time of year.

saintmerryweather · 13/11/2013 20:31

all of them are absolutely shit. especially the JL one

ssd · 13/11/2013 20:31
