seriously, my life is pretty boring but the day I get all worked up and teery over a sodding sainsburys/tesco/john lewis advert is the day I stick my head in the oven.

maybe its just mumsnet...I mean the john lewis advert made it into discussion of the day, can't see the aldi/lidl adverts will get the same reaction here....

yourtoatsmildred: My friend and I simultaneously and spontaneously raised our middle fingers and hissed 'get it yourself', there was a chorus of loud teeth kissing, one woman shouted 'a man got paid for making that ad', and I heard someone else say loudly to their kids "that wasn't funny"

youretoastmildred · 15/11/2013 09:49

blu - sounds great.

heartisaspade. I was being sarcastic.

NorfolkInGood · 15/11/2013 09:49

Sainsbury's one is a bit weird too, aping all those YouTube/Facebook videos of a soldier coming Home at the end.

Blu · 15/11/2013 09:50

wouldn't the bear die if it came out of hibernation too early?

That's the sequel Wink

GillyBillyWilly · 15/11/2013 09:52

I love Christmas and anything Christmassy makes me emotional!
Christmas songs mainly.
Every year I go to a carol service with my mum and I well up! Grin
OP don't be a Scrooge... Some of us just love Christmas and are excited!

NorfolkInGood · 15/11/2013 09:52

also I'm not sure bears know how to tell the time either! Wink

mrsjay · 15/11/2013 09:54

sigh you are all so cynical the alarm clock wakes the bear and he is so filled with wonderment that he forgets he needs a poo and just loves his hare friend for thinking about him,

Blu · 15/11/2013 09:54

The Daily Mash on another JL ad that I often think of when reading Bridezilla / wedding list threads on MN

Not at all Mildred. By all means have a different opinion, but don't denigrate people for not liking what you do.

I LOVE chatting to people about why they like different things but to say "if I ever get emotion by x, y, z I'll stick my head in the oven" isn't exactly doing that is it, the implication is that people who DO like them are not the thing.

The OP could have said "I don't like these adverts because.....could you explain why you like them".

NorfolkInGood · 15/11/2013 10:03

If I was a hare I don't think I'd be waking a 300lb bear early from hibernation.

mrsjay · 15/11/2013 10:03

I wouldn't either norfolk

NorfolkInGood · 15/11/2013 10:05

Why does he need to make friends with the bear? where are all the other hares? I don't trust the hares motives Wink

mrsjay · 15/11/2013 10:07

maybe the hare needs the bear for protection so he doesn't get eaten , i have a feeling this thread has just lost the plot

mrsjay · 15/11/2013 10:08

and it is well known all woodland creatures are all friends anyway

ToysRLuv · 15/11/2013 10:09

I think there is an inter-species romance going on here. Bizarre.

dutchyoriginal · 15/11/2013 10:47

Am in Netherlands, so no British ads, but just saw the Sainsbury's one online.

I cried a little at the kids at the end with their dad.

dutchyoriginal · 15/11/2013 10:59

Based on this thread, also went looking for the others. Wtf is the M&S one about? I get all the references, but, were they on glue when they wrote it?

claig · 15/11/2013 11:02

'I think there is an inter-species romance going on here.'

Yes, because it is about community and all join hands and "all you need is love", and Christmas time is the one time of the year that the world stops and we think about families and communities and giving and sharing. Marvellous stuff and great ads, shame about the crap singing in the JL ad, sounds like something after the hangover from over exuberance.

Blu · 15/11/2013 12:02

Fleta, to be fair, we know why people like them, there have been effusive threads, damp with tears and emotive sniffling, to tell us!

This is MN, not fluffy - and mostly the denigration is a joke too, you know!

For example I posted the Daily Mash link, but I do not actually (necessarily) think anyone is a 'moron'. It is a satire on the whole advertising dynamic.

NorfolkInGood · 15/11/2013 13:48

how did the animals shop in John Lewis?. They don't have money!. (I'm thinking about this too much!) Wink

BeCoolFucker · 15/11/2013 14:34

they ran up loads of debt on their high interest credit cards - it's really depressing this exploitation of cute animals in our capitalist society Grin

mrsjay · 15/11/2013 14:35

Santa brought them JEEZ norfolk Wink

PattyPuddy · 15/11/2013 14:38

OP, I find it hard to understand too

Women getting "teary" about shit like that??? Get a life.
