AIBU?

to think there's a lot of patronizing snobbery here with regards the netmums site.

it's as posters on mumsnet are somehow superior to anyone who posts on netmums...

I mean, whats that all about?

Actually posters who think they are superior because they choose one website over another are a bit sad really.

MN is more left wing and middle class, 2 groups quite well known for looking down on others :). I don't see the reverse snobbery on NM.

I find the level of debate there as curates eggy as here, but i just can't stand txtspeak and sparkles

Watching debate on netmums is like watching two fifteen year old girls argue over who should get the last pair of shoes in their size on the rack and their reasons why.

Netmums is the 'take a break' type mag, and mumsnet is the newspaper it falls out of.

Just had a look to see how they view Mn. One poster said Nm's is the Daily Mail and Mn is the Sun - how very dare she! I think they think we are very vulgar and common due to the swearing and names (not pointing at Anyfucker here at all, no siree) I agree with Soul2000 post up thread. I do think there are a lot of younger posters over there though - I think they would perhaps be intimidated here.

All the moving icons and winking crap on NMs reminds me of migraines starting. I just felt more at home on MN: more liked minded people around.

I don't like Bubs and Hubs and Hun and stuff.

I'd be more than surprised if the majority of Netmums actually read newspapers. I think OK would be more their cup of tea. Lots of big pictures and not too much reading.

Sorry if this has been said and I've missed it!

Was talking to my friend today and mentioned mums net and she said
"There are two sites with similar names are you on the Boden one or the other one"

Who cares? Not sure why this is worth debate, some go to one website, some go to another, some go to both, I go to the website I prefer, but don't feel a need to discuss why. Confused

I tried Netmums when DS had really bad colic I was suffering really awful PND and felt very lonely, I needed to connect with someone, anyone who knew how how I felt. Who understood how it felt to sit outside of the nursery on the floor in a heap crying with my hands over my ears while DS screamed uncontrollably (colic) in his cot.
I got a few responses a few, aw hun, 1 telling me I was neglecting my son by not at least trying to console him (WTF He had colic! I had tried EVERYTHING!!! Nothing worked), one agreeing with that poster and a few calling me a troll because real mums, who love their babies do not behave like that.
I posted here, and got heaps of telling me they understand they had been through it, they would keep me company when I was having a meltdown and help me try different techniques to manage my PND.
I have a new NN now, but I have no doubt that the people here saved my sanity. Netmums? Well they can get their fluffy tickers and shove em up their glittery arseholes for all I care.

I absolutely loathe being called Hun (as in aaaaw Hun) Babes or any fucking shite like that, so i'll avoid the other place. However-some people like reading the Guardian, some colouring inthe Sun, some enjoy the cut and thrust of lively debate and dodging the vipersothers like vicariously pouring over all the problems other people have. Whatever-horses for courses. If we were all the same the world would be a boring place, as my sainted dm always said. I'm happy here, sure people on there are happy too.

MN all the way.... until I find somewhere else

The discussions, debates and life issues are more fairly discussed on MN. The help sections are far better too. NM does, on the other hand have a far better "buy-sell" section for the local areas, and activites section too. THat's how I came to find NM, through the buy and sell section a friend suggested.

But seriously, on NM they don't follow through threads properly. You'll find at least 5 threads on the same topic per week, and I find it infuriating. Also, they are a bit too Facebooky for me. They love posting tonnes of pictures of themselves on certain threads, and the pictures don't always add to the discussion.

But, to be fair (the negotiator in me), they don't seem to betlittle people as much on NM. I don't know if that is related to the whole poor debate aspect of the users, or that they are younger and thus a bit naive.
I am always/still shocked by the "sex position of the week" section on NM. I daren't look in it, seems a bit juvenille.... or I'm a big prude, you decide

Horses for courses. MN can have something of a Guardian reader hive mind on political/social issues, but at least there's no sparkly / cutesy shite.

Well, I just had to google netmums sex position of the week,

www.netmums.com/woman/galleries/view/100-karmasutra-sex-positions

daringly ignored the warnings about explicit pics for over 16s, well.........

have printed off position 26 for me and DH (age 65) to try out this weekend, this should greatly enhance things in the bedroom --- but really not looking forward to the full body wax which appears to be required to partake in these!

Wish us luck!

I first visited NM and MN on the same day with the same issue when I was pg. It was very much a TMI issue that I really couldn't bring myself to ask anyone face to face!

On NM I was deleted after a couple of nasty responses (apparently no-one wanted to know the colour of my pg poo, can't imagine why!). On MN a medical professional responded within a couple of hours to explain what was happening to my body and why.

I stayed.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, if your morning sickness manifests as only being able to stomach baked potatoes for a week straight, your poo will go pale yellow. It is not necessarily liver failure (as Dr Google told me). But don't ask about it on NM!
