to think there's a lot of patronizing snobbery here with regards the netmums site.

it's as posters on mumsnet are somehow superior to anyone who posts on netmums...

I mean, whats that all about?

OP posts:
Hamwidgeandcheps · 08/10/2013 22:21

Yanbu. It's a bit twee for my liking and the site looks naff and old fashioned.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 08/10/2013 22:22

I lurked there fora bit. There were some extraordinarily Loose-Womenish types, but also lovely support and I quite like their peer-supporters

I hate the tickers though, and the twee "itch" thing because God forbid that a laydee utters profundities

But on the whole, YANBU. It's a bit of stereotyping. Easy to do the other way too

Bogeyface · 08/10/2013 22:23

Hmm, I think you may be right Fairy

Or maybe I shouldnt have bascially (in so many words) called her a liar about being a BF counsellor, that wont have helped. Blush

PeppiNephrine · 08/10/2013 22:24

Did you mean patronising, it seems like the wrong word? Also snobby, not very accurate.
I do happen to feel myself a little superior to the folks who feel the need to tell you everything about themselves in sparkly pink glitter tickers, call every hunni and chick, and need a fucking swear filter as if they are toddlers.

You might think that makes me a snob. I don't care.

FloozeyLoozey · 08/10/2013 22:25

I suspect some of it is down to class, with mumsnet stereotypically middle class and netmums stereotypically working class. People here will deny it, but it's definitely an influence.

comewinewithmoi · 08/10/2013 22:28

Cos mumsnett rocks, in it babe.

NK493efc93X1277dd3d6d4 · 08/10/2013 22:32

I think they are probably more glamorous! ...On my local board it is one ad after another, hairdressers, spray tans, nails, cup cakes...... I did complain (twice) about the number of ads but nothing changed so I gave up.

PinocchiosLeftNostril · 08/10/2013 22:32

I've found Netmums to be infuriating, so i had to leave. The majority of the posters on there really did annoy me. In fact, it was only after being on Mumsnet for a few weeks that i realised just how much the Netmums site gave me the rage.

You get some fantastic, intelligent, interesting posters on there. but the majority of posts want to make me rip out my eyes.

I hate all the text speak.

I hate that the majority of posters talk to each other or talk about problems i would associate with young teenagers. "OMG, my friendz totally pissed me off coz she wont text back."

People with genuine problems hardly ever get answered, whereas on here the advice is amazing.

Netmums repeat the same old crap again and again. If it's not something related to breastfeeding or benefits, it's unlikely to get more than 9 replies.

The majority of the posters are rather sexist e.g. not wanting their son to play with a doll.

Disabilism isn't treated as equally as racism over there by mods. In fact i can remember a poster pulling up the netmums team on why the R word was allowed to be used, and why a vile poster was allowed to insult various netmums' kids and call them soft in the head etc. That poster who confronted the mods was consequently banned, but i recognise her on here from various threads and have huge admiration for her.

The netmums staff seem like robots and police threads rather stupidly.

IMO, yes, Mumsnet and its staff and members are far more appealing to me than Netmums - and a million times better. Netmums LOL too much at stupid stuff and are too casually sexist/racist/disbilist (a million other -ists) for my liking.

As said before, there are a few posters over there who have my respect. But the majority make me cringe.

juneybean · 08/10/2013 22:33

Netmums and fertilityfriends, too many tickers and rules.

ScarletLady02 · 08/10/2013 22:33

I'm an out and proud user of both

I don't have a ticker and don't post like a "hun"obsessed dickhead though.

I'm in a facebook group of Netmums users as well...most of them have been banned and wanted to stay in touch, there are some lovely women there. I'm too nice to get banned Grin

NaturalBaby · 08/10/2013 22:35

I also find that I don't speak the NM lingo.

NM has never made me snigger so loud that I nearly woke up my dc's.
MN has done wonders for my grammar and punctuation Grin.
Theraputic and educational...what more does one need from a parenting forum?!

Sallystyle · 08/10/2013 22:38

I started with NM's but one mod seemed to have it in for me.

She deleted loads of my posts for reasons I could never determine.

I got more crap on there than I ever have here. People say we are bitchy, I had tons of bitchiness aimed at me but I always got warned! The mod just didn't like me Grin

yonisareforever · 08/10/2013 22:41

I went to have a look once and there was a mind blowing netmums supported thing about not having c sections and it was better not too and far better to have V births. I wrote to complain.

There is loads of excellent work and advice on here about ELC and birth trauma, seems to have passed NM by Smile so for that reason, I am out.

Scarifying · 08/10/2013 22:42

I don't see anything but amusing teasing. It only because MN'ers are jealous of the banners and sparkly stuff but are too proud to say so.

JerseySpud · 08/10/2013 22:43

Too. much. sparkle.

Sleepgrumpydopey · 08/10/2013 22:44

I just had a look and current threads are; amazing blow jobs... help, anyone else thinking of being a lesbian lately and shaving down below!!! and its not even the weekend.... too much for me to digest on a school night.

PansOnFire · 08/10/2013 22:45

MN is straight to the point, not fluffy. Fine if you like that kind of thing but it's not to everyone's taste.

I don't get why you started this unless you got fed up of being bored on NM and wanted some entertainment.

BlingBang · 08/10/2013 22:47

Course there is.

PinocchiosLeftNostril · 08/10/2013 22:47

Samu, i was the same with one particular mod beginning with a C. She positively loooooathed me.

I would write out very informative and helpful replies to posters, only to have my entire post deleted because i had 'attempted to bypass the swear filter'. More often than not, it was because I'd called a poster's abusive partner a dick or a twat. Angry

ScarletLady02 · 08/10/2013 22:55

I bet it was Chelle Grin

She's a twat

Grennie · 08/10/2013 22:56

Both sites have their positives. I prefer the debate on here - it is more left wing here generally and much better around SEN. But netmums is more gentle, which can sometimes be good.

PinocchiosLeftNostril · 08/10/2013 23:05

Yep, that's the one. Grin

She hounded me. She'd delete my sweary posts within ten seconds, but racist/goading/disabilist posts could be left up for days!

ScarletLady02 · 08/10/2013 23:11

You make a fair point Mrs DeVere - I mainly avoid the debates now, I get so annoyed. I remember quoting Dogma ("A woman's body's her own fucking business") in an abortion debate...

OH MY WORD...I was called a cold heartless bitch who didn't care about ickle baybees etc etc

I've made some good friends on there but most of them don't post there either. When did you leave? I wonder if I know you Grin The decent posters usually stick out to me.

The moderating IS diabolical. Recently poster was finally banned for being really, really nasty...it took a hell of a long time though and a load of us continuously reporting every single post he put. Sounds petty but he was VERY nasty, racist, homophobic etc.
