I'm more than sure I've done this myself and I think especially when you're new it may feel the best way to throw yourself into AIBU but it's getting ridiculous.

Some pointers:

  1. read the thread. If it's too long, read the OP's posts at the very least. There is a way to customise so you can highlight the OP's posts to make this easier (on the desktop site, not sure about the app).

  2. if you think the person is being unreasonable, tell them so in a PLEASANT manner and give reasons why.

  3. Give your own opinion not that of the 15 twats posters before you.

  4. Just because you can lift your 6 children out of the car without opening the doors doesn't mean the OP is unreasonable because she finds getting one baby out of a cramped space hard.

  5. forgetting to put something in a post and adding it soon after is not drip feeding, it's helpful.

  6. if someone is being an utter twat, do by all means highlight what they've said to make them sound like a twat. Just make sure you've RTFT first!

Any other pointers welcome Grin

YABU, you are not Judge Dredd and are therefore not the law..

TheOrcHeadKeeper · 01/10/2013 14:04

I AM THE LAW

candycoatedwaterdrops · 01/10/2013 14:05

What?! You don't have be a twat? Sad Damn, I thought it was AIBU law.

Panzee · 01/10/2013 14:05

If the thread's too long to read properly then it's too long for you to reply to it. :o

MorrisZapp · 01/10/2013 14:06

I always find that people instructing me to be PLEASANT makes me extra polite.

Oh no hang on, it gives me the rage and makes me very ratty.

Tweasels · 01/10/2013 14:06

How do you know I'm not Judge Dredd?

Might have namechanged as not to be outed.

YANBU - there are some completed wankers on these forums, read the OP and then 12 pages later blast out some crap that was resolved on the second page. I honestly don't think some of them can read and they just happen to drool on the right sequence of keys to form a reply.

Hope you've got your tin helmet on....

angryangryyoungwoman · 01/10/2013 14:07

I would be betraying my name to follow those rules

Fenton · 01/10/2013 14:07

I disagree with you CocacolaMum, I think that Tweazels has given some very valid pointers there.

Or were you being ironic and I missed it?

gobbynorthernbird · 01/10/2013 14:07

Someone being twattish is a matter of opinion. My opinion is that this post is twattish. You're free to think that I'm being a twat by making this comment.

comingalongnicely · 01/10/2013 14:07

I particularly like the ones that put a really abusive and nasty post & then try & excuse it "because they're tired" etc...

Not too tired to be an arse...

2tiredtocare · 01/10/2013 14:08

Grin at drooling on the right sequence of keys!

JohFlow · 01/10/2013 14:10

Being told off makes me want to rebel Grin

Mintyy · 01/10/2013 14:11

Good post Tweazels. It should be stickied at the top of AIBU.

And if people can't bring themselves to be pleasant, at least try to be articulate and rational.

Fenton · 01/10/2013 14:13

I like just happen to drool on the right sequence of keys to form a reply
too.

very much.

Hercy · 01/10/2013 14:13

How do you highlight all the op's posts please?

pianodoodle · 01/10/2013 14:13

I agree with reading the post.

"Should I leave my 5 year old with an axe murderer tonight?"

"That depends OP. how old is your 5 year old and who will you be leaving them with? YABU - time to let go and get over your insecurities"

CocacolaMum · 01/10/2013 14:14

I wasn't really being ironic or serious. Tone is almost impossible to convey in forum posts and offence can only be taken, not given so I agree with Gobby that its a matter of opinion.

ginslinger · 01/10/2013 14:14

Great post tweasels

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/10/2013 14:14

YANBU

(but I fear it may fall upon deaf ears)

candycoatedwaterdrops · 01/10/2013 14:15

I particularly like the ones that put a really abusive and nasty post & then try & excuse it "because they're tired" etc...

Or hormones!

ginslinger · 01/10/2013 14:15

Offence can be given when one is being offensive

You can disagree without being disagreeable

Fenton · 01/10/2013 14:16

Hercy

If you go to the top of a thread page, just under the words Mumsnet Talk there's a customise link - lots of adjustments you can make in there.

Mintyy · 01/10/2013 14:16

Hercy
I only look at Mumsnet on my laptop, so don't know about the mobile apps, but if you go to Customise (just under Mumsnet Talk) at the top of the page, it will talk you through it. You can also highlight all your posts in a different colour. Very handy.

Binkyridesagain · 01/10/2013 14:16

ATM because of a nightmare trip into town involving a wheelchair, access, buses and buggys, I will refrain from posting on any thread that involve any of these issues because I will behave like a twat. I will of course be right on all the points I make about these issues but I will not be pleasant whilst making them.
