Nasty, nasty 'upgrade'.

What has become of Apple? Idiocy.

Haven't bothered downloading, looked at previews and was appalled. There are bound to be several versions released to fix the wrongnesses anyway but, if I wanted something that had the air of Windows about it, I'd have bought it in the first place.

Dolts.

Lighthousekeeping · 20/09/2013 10:27

This isn't going to help me when I'm trying for Glastonbury tickets with a million other people next week. Just having one bar is ridiculous.

In case I've missed the reply does anyone know how I can get my im contacts names to come up instead of their numbers on the iPad?

Fakebook · 20/09/2013 10:47

DH updated his phone last night and tbh, I don't like the whiteness...what's that all about? Don't like the calendar and don't like safari; again, it's too white and weird. The network bars are dots now which is also confusing. I have enough space now, I'm just in two minds about updating my phone and iPad. Will things stop running if I don't update?

StHelenInPerson · 20/09/2013 11:28

I downloaded it last night and I really like it,feels like a whole new phone and has a new function that I loved having on my Nokia android phone as well as easy access to settings to switch wifi etc on or off.

Best reading what it has to offer before downloading it then you might not get so annoyed with it when trying to learn to use it.

Dobbiesmum · 20/09/2013 11:59

It's growing on me today now I know where things are. DH found me a good idiots guide online last night. Sadly it's an article in the daily Mail and I know how people feel about it but they really do explain things quite well.

KatoPotato · 20/09/2013 12:04

It's beautiful!

Gone are the shiny plastic effect icons! It's like a new phone!

For those who dislike Safari, you really should try chrome instead. i've not used safari in yonks!

IAmADonkeyOnTheEdge · 20/09/2013 12:07

"It looks like a Fisherprice My First Mobile" . I agree Hopefully . I wish you could do ' like' to comments on MN

hiddenhome · 20/09/2013 13:03

I'm too scared to download onto my iphone and ipad. What do I do?

Betrayedbutsurvived · 20/09/2013 13:31

It's gorgeous, I've fallen in love with my phone and pad all over again. Only prob is DH is sulking cos I've removed the photo of him that was my wallpaper and replaced it with one of the dynamic ones, cos it's just too fab to spoil with his mug shotGrin

KatoPotato · 20/09/2013 14:01

haha me too betrayedbutsurvived!

Oh, the new alerts and ringtones! love them!

SoupDragon · 20/09/2013 14:05

Gone are the shiny plastic effect icons! It's like a new phone!

Are you looking at a different OS to me? Gone are the nice icons to be replaced by Fisher Price plastic ones.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 20/09/2013 14:10

Lighthousekeeping Settings ... Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Scroll down to contacts. Change the display there.
ios 7 changes the name on incoming texts to first name only. I changed mine back to tell me the full name.

NoComet · 20/09/2013 14:15

Since a kind poster told me how it works, I rather like it, Except it is, as every one says, too white.

I want a dark key board like this kindle has and darker top bars on web searches etc.

If they'd stick a couple of darker themes in the inevitable bug fixing up date, I would love them.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/09/2013 14:27

I took a screenshot before I updated so if I go back to that photo my phone looks exactly like it used to. But it looks really old fashioned, I didn't realise how old fashioned the apps were until this.

SoupDragon · 20/09/2013 14:34

For some reason I have the box for my old 3GS next to me. The picture of the screen on the front looks lovely and sleek and beautiful.

reggiebean · 20/09/2013 15:03

For those of you looking for a darker background, the tiles and overlays are dynamic, so they pick up the colour of the background. You can set a black background, and the font will turn white, and all the tiles, command centre, etc., will turn to a dark grey.

StillSlightlyCrumpled · 20/09/2013 15:17

Where is the torch? I can't see one on my phone.
I am not loving it yet I must admit! Mostly because it took my an age to put an appointment in the calendar this morning.

reggiebean · 20/09/2013 15:22

Put your finger at the bottom of the screen and slide upwards. It's on that "Control Centre" bit.

GirlOutNumbered · 20/09/2013 15:24

hate it.
Looks like its not actually made for my 3 year old, instead of him borrowing my kit.
And its made my iPad run so slow.

StillSlightlyCrumpled · 20/09/2013 15:24

Wow - there is a control centre! BlushGrin. Thanks Reggie

reggiebean · 20/09/2013 15:26

It's very handy once you get used to it! Grin

KatoPotato · 20/09/2013 15:27

the Control Centre is the clincher for me. Being able to switch on airplane mode, get to my timer and brightness etc with one swipe. Makes sense to me.

GeeTeeEff · 20/09/2013 15:28

I've just found the control centre! Blinded myself with the torch but it's very handy.

reggiebean · 20/09/2013 15:35

Also, I've just found that you can bold the text (Settings > General > Accessibility) so if you're still having trouble seeing the narrow lettering, that might help to!

StillSlightlyCrumpled · 20/09/2013 15:54

Please tell me there hasn't always been a control panel!
